Sloppy Work by the Committee and Council

The fireworks for the July 4 celebration were again brought up one more time by Ald Perez because Peru does NOT have a pyrotechnic company hired unless it is a secret, a deep dark one. Ald. Perez asked Ald. Ankiewicz of the Public Property Committee why the companies that attempted to make contact with the Peru Recreation Commission never got a reply. Evidently several companies were interested in putting a bid. Ankiewicz's reply was that we will do it like we always have and get bids in March. Knowing full well that they have never gone out for bids but just hired someone without regard to cost. This led me to the City Clerk whom I asked what the bids were last year and his answer was the city has never gone out for bids on the fireworks. Ald. Ankiewicz what do you say now??

Back to Ankiewicz who said I would need to talk to Ron Kelsey of the Recreation Commission as he has always handled the fireworks. OK Mr Kelsy is this your problem?

So we now have companies who were interested in putting in a BID and are never acknowledged because the Recreation Commission dropped the ball. One person on the council does not make a decision to hire a company, a vote is taken, but the Recreation Commission waits until there are probably no choices left to do the fireworks display and the only one left has already been assured they will get the job as usual. Many of us are now asking WHY? This is your money and they are not watching how carefully they spend it because it is very apparent they don't care. No one beside Ald Perez is asking questions about waste and poor managment.

Silly you!!

How long has Mr. Kelsey served on the Peru Recreation Commission?

Since Ron Kelsey has always handled the fireworks how long is always?

Was the Peru Recreation Commission comprised of five or seven members when Mr. Kelsey was appointed?

Would Ron be kind enough to explain what the Councilman meant by the comment that he always handled the fireworks?

If these questions are ignored by Ron or the balance of the Peru Recreation Commission what would be
considered proper procedure to be followed to further this inquiry?

This may be a subject for PAC to sharpen its teeth on in preparation for the next election!

I also see that according to the News Tribune the local mayors conference will be held at Olive Garden this year and that Peru will pick up the tab for visiting officials. I also heard they will pick up the tab for aldermen and department heads. If this is true that could be quite an expense.

Are you really making critical remarks about Ald. Ankiewicz to validate the reasoning of Ald. Perez? Your control of Ald. Perez is very evident in most of the postings. Its good entertainment and probably alot of fun to have that puppet on a string. However, do you have to portray Ald. Ankiewicz as a Russian spy intent on taking away the liberty of all Americans! Nobody is believing the fiction and takes away any glimmer of creditbility you hope to obtain with your postings.

My comments was based on a conversation I had yesterday with the alderman and others heard exactly what I did. He had no business lying to the aldermen and the people at the meeting. I don't care if you believe me or not. I am not the one presenting mistruths.

@3:16 I believe for our elected officials to have credibility they would need to earn it. Mr. Ankiewicz has not earned credibility and is a disgrace to have as a representative of our city. There are always witnesses around to verify the rude, disrespectful remarks he makes to women, and fellow alderman on the board. correct me if i'm wrong but i do believe he told another alderman to play with their meat during a public meeting? I would agree he is a spy, but not a Russian spy, but perhaps a Baker Spy. Mr.Ankiewicz may be honored for serving our country but that does not give him the Right to LIE,intimidate others by using his political badge, or to mistreat others.Mr. A has been just one of the Baker puppets for many years. You should not cut Lois down for having certain aldermen on the council she respects for doing their job. I have NO RESPECT for Alderman Bob A. he is part of the reason why Peru is in the mess there in.

what who does their job? really? leave former mayor baker out of it, he is probably one happy guy to get away from such rude people as those that comment on here, where is the current mayor in all this doing his new job waiting on tables???

4:32 Lets vote on which Team the City would rather have Baker/Ankiwiecz or Harl/Perez. One team served the city for decades with low tax rates, low utility rates, business growth. The other has been focused on fireworks, more money for fireman, new taxes, higher taxes, higher utility rates, dinners, dinners and more dinners. Your choice.

I think Ald. Bob has a hard time holding back his laughter with a few of the representatives on the city council. Who can blame him for that! I don't think Bob will change because of a comment on the blog, but a few others will do a complete spin. Enjoy, remember how Pinochio wanted his freedom? Of course he did get in trouble because he wanted to get rid of the strings. Maybe its better that you have a few of those puppets on a string. After all who wants a puppet that has the freedom of will?

Another blog attack on a resident of Peru that has given of his time and energy for the purpose of voluteering on a Rec Board? Most of us reasonable people would appreciate the service of those like Mr.Kelsey.

I did not attack Mr Kelsey, I simply said that Mr Ankiewicz said I should ask Mr Kelsey about the delay in securing bids for the fireworks. Please explain how that is an attack on him. I don't intend it to be, just want answers that I guess no one wants to give. Perhaps whomever you are can give them to us.

Anon 3:56 What are you considering as a attack on Mr. Kelsey?
Since a Alderman has stated that Mr. Kelsey handles the fireworks I would like to know how many firms have in the past been asked to submit inquires and bids to Peru and how many for this year?
City of Peru's Annual Statement for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2011 states that MELROSE PYROTECHNICS was paid $34,000 in 2011.
Please look at this as nothing personnel but just business. The business of a $34,000 question paid for by taxpayers funds when surrounding towns are getting just as good if not better for a lot less.

Its time The sausage puller should retire. He is like a spy. You have to prove to me that he doesn't meet with baker almost everyday, and Baker is telling him how to vote and be a turd in the punch bowl. Thats what is wrong, with Peru Politics, aldermen , city attorney, chamlin, test, have all been in control for too many years, its time to get the rest of them out.

4:46 PM How many years have they been in control? Mayor Baker was in control until three years ago. Do you find something wrong with a Mayor giving direction and good experienced business advise. I have to go along with the recent blogger who reminded all of Mayor Bakers motto "vote with your pocketbook".

This isnt a comment for this post but a topic for you to investigate . What happened to all the leftover proceeds and donations that came in for the Westclox firefighter dinner . The city made more money than it cost to put on . I dont care that the city did it but who pocketed the extra money ? I think we're talking about a couple thousand of dollars extra after the bills were paid .

I believe that information is now available for the public and I will look for the details.

The information you asked about is that donations totaled 6310.00 and and the cost of the dinner at the Eagles was 5721.25.
An exact accounting of the excess was not available but it was suggested it was used to pay for the very large advertisement in the N.T. paid for by the city of Peru.
