In The News or Not Regarding Peru Hospital

I recently read in the open forum section of the News Trib, an article about Hospitalists now at IVCH. At first when I read this, I thought it might be something about covering for physicians on weekends and Holidays. But today a friend called and told me about an experience a friend of his had had several days ago when his father became ill.

First going to the physicians office, he was told to take him to the ER and then discovering that the doctor would not be seeing him in the hospital but after admittance he would be take care of by a hospitalist hired to manage medical patient care for hospitalized patients.

I have been unable to verify whether this will cover all local doctors or only those that choose to participate. Does anyone have any further information on this very important topic to local residents?

Approximately Tuesday evening in the local newspapers open forum Attorney Anthony C. Raccuglia had a outstanding article referring to this subject. I have always been told of the importance the Doctor patient personal relationship has in the healing process of the sick. This method of hospital treatment seems to erode the very foundation of medical philosophy.
I appreciate Attorney Racuglia for his timely information and thank him in advance for any further updating.

This may work in the city, but it will not work in Peru.

I have verified that this is true and there is a list of doctors who have opted into the Hospitalist for hospital care at IVCH.
Also some will maintain the same independent practice of seeing their patients in the hospital.
It seems that this area is having a hard time attracting new doctors to the area and that many of the new M.D.'s prefer to practice where they have more time off and their patients are taken care of my the Hospitalist on duty.

If your doctor is using hospitalists, inform him that you will be finding another doctor and will be using St. Margaret's. Maybe they will get the message.

I agree with you and believe lots of people will be doing that. Does anyone believe that their are many people using the hospital who don't have a local physician and this will provide care for them? The population of the town is changing and this could be contributing to the problem. There are several different kinds of people that local doctors won't include in their practice because of reimbursement problems.
