Is This What is Happening to the USA (N.T. Open Forum)

I am out there doing my civic duty, keeping the economy going spending my Social Security money.

I was in Target at the checkout. I had a quilt, sheet set and a pillow sham to purchase. I was not allowed to purchase them because the items were not in the system. Seriously! Target stores never heard of a thing called override. Other stores do it. And there was a whole wall of these things. The check out girl called a boss — that boss called another boss. Now three people are looking at me. Now I am embarrassed. The check-out pointed out that the sham went through. The boss scanned with a hand held scanner and said, not in the system. He took it off my bill. These check out people were just doing their jobs (not paid enough) really. Instead of fixing the problem they snatched up all items and take them away. Everyone at the check out lines are now looking at me and it is very quiet! Now I want to cry.

I am not done yet. Instead of crying I ask for a complaint card. I get one and called. I get India! Target stores outsource to India? I asked the girl if she was in India and she said “yes.” She was very polite. Target sends American money and jobs to India? People in America can’t take complaints? I am just saying! America is in big trouble. Now I am very glad they did not take my money. Target will get no more of my Social Security money. JoAnn Taber Spring Valley

Target one of my favorite stores and now I find out that they are totally incompetent and of course that is my own opinion.

When Mom and Pop ran the business, this would not have happened. Thinking back to stores there were chains even years ago like the "old" J.C. Penny or the "old" Sears or Montgomery Ward, this would not have happened. When Americans were manufacturing and selling their own products and managing their own businesses, this would not have happened.
I am not a globalist.

Union Local 393's sign (the rat) is making a appearance on Shooting Park Road in Peru. This huge hairy beast is the unions expression of a sign and it is way over the towns size restrictions for signage.. Since Peru is the City of Points and Odds what is the latest line that this sign doesn't get taken down and sent back home to Martucky.

its not local 393 sign its all unions sign of rats doing work meaning nonunion non skilled workers. people doing the same work for lower pay and less benefits. america was founded on unions. unions brought us the 8 hour work day with overtime after 8 hours. or we would all still be working sunup to sundown for 10 cents an hour. when the union rat is at a business union workers dont patronize that business because they hired non union workers. maybe if more people bought american this country would not be in the shape it is. the rat and the workers that are out there represent freedom of speech

Only part of your comment that stood out:

"we would still be working"...

Like every faction entangled with the political process, the unions lost their SOLE purpose for existence and the union bosses were sure to take advantage of a weak and abused "democratic" system/politicians no different than big banks or corporations. Take (negotiate) as much as you can before someone else puts their hands in the cookie jar. Eventually too many hands grabbing for cookies and the jar will break; yes us the tax payers (union members or not) are left sweeping up the crumbs. Why because there are no other jobs.

At one time Unions protected works and fought for their trade and the safety associated with the trade. Today safety, although broadcasted as a concern for internet and media jargon, is a mere tool to promote an agenda but is not enforced as a priority. I know this for a fact with the two large unions I worked with that workers legitimate safety concerns where completely ignored by the union stewards. One corporation I worked with the plant manager was "friends" with the BA in Chicago and the safety concerns were neglected even after someone was nearly killed veritable by the OSHA citation.

I absolute support freedom of speech (I have had my share) but please get rid of the rat, it is an outdated injustice to the cause you represent. Do you realize a person associates a rat with filth, sneakiness, and a scavenger? Is that how you want unions to be associated during this recession as sneaky, filty, scavengers? I didn't think so-time to update and reorganize because you do more harm than good everytime you inflate that rat.

Lois,
The above is a link to a facebook picture of a boat that's being stored in the westclox building behind test. I saw this and thought you might find it interesting.

Union ideologies have become ancient. I support American made products, but not American laziness, which is all that unions seem to protect. If a union doesn't get a job they will whimper and cry, inflate a big rat, then go home. Really? You don't have ANYTHING better to do with your time??? "Lets just have a seat right here and do something really productive!!!!" Instead of bankrupting our automakers, lets go wave around a picket sign! Better yet, lets do both!! Give me a break. You are aware that things could be MUCH MUCH worse, right? Just in case you forgot, this country was founded upon entrepreneurship and free market systems. Union "thinking" has become terribly out dated.

9:26 2/7/2012 a non union worker does not necessarily mean that he/she is non skilled. By unions, cities, etc requiring the use of only union members is discrimination. I am aware of a lot of men/women who can do a skillful job without belonging to a union. Unfortunately these ordinances, laws and outright demonstration only serve to limit our (American) workforce. We were free at one time and all prospered to their God given ability.

I drive up to the city every day. I see more union people waving picket signs and inflating rats than anything else. I'm sorry you find it offensive, but I live off of hard work and a good attitude, and when I see a bunch of whiners not getting what they want I find that offensive. It's no surprise America is what it is today, we should all thank the unions.

If any individual believes Americans would be working sun up to sun down for .10 cents an hour doesn't understand economics, inflation, free markets, or capitalism. It wasn't because of unions, trust me.

I find it very offensive that the unions display the American Flag next to a inflated rat.
The individuals who are considered to be rats by the 11% minority because they are doing the same work for lower pay and less benefits are exercising their right of expression by going to work. Maybe the exhibitors of their big buddy the RAT should consider doing the same.
Many, many times you will discover that the person is practicing a trade that he or she prefers but was not allowed to join the particular union which represents that trade. They were not allowed to because they are not a son, daughter, brother or sister, best buddies of a union representative or are black listed by someone who is a member of that union.
If your preference is to display a rat next to Old Glory rather than looking for a job I would seriously reconsider my image and my methods of achieving my goals. Instead of promoting that there is a group which through bargaining has beat me out of a job I would display symbol such as a Eagle outside of jobs that I was working on. This would promote union workmanship. Much more positive and a lot less negative.
I would also make sure that all jobs are covered even if it calls for only four or eight hours per week and results in the union worker only making as much as if he sits at home all week collecting rocking chair money.
Also all union exhibits, displays picket sites etc. should have apprentice applications for that trade to distribute to those who have interests in joining. If this was the unions approach I doubt if they would need a RAT and have a low 11% enlistment of the work force.

Thank you "Bachelor's in Economics". I work for a non-union company. I work with American people who work hard and who produce an absolutely BEAUTIFUL product. Unfortunately our biggest competition is "off shore". Why? Because those "off shore" workers want nothing more than to be AMERICAN. And they produce a product that is EQUALLY beautiful, but they make a fraction of our wages, and they sell their product for LESS in the United States because why? Because US companies sell them the same materials they sell US companies. They are establishing themselves in other countries and accommodating these workers with prestigious work and home environments. And... US customers are willing to PAY LESS for their product, and concede to respecting the point of origin. Many don't even know where the product they're buying even comes from. The consumer, as well as the US Government is responsible for the demise of hard-working Americans. If the US government would become more responsible in their regulation, the threat would lessen. We need regulation that would protect the US consumer AND worker. We need to wake-up. We, the consumers and hard workers, are the victims. It scares me to imagine what the impact on our next generation is going to be.

If a business has received some type of sales tax break such as an enterprise zone exemption, govt backed funding or grant, govt project work, tax rebate entitlement, fee waiver, etc., they are required to pay prevailing wage in exchange for the govt backed work / benefit they received. Paying prevailing wage and being union is 2 different topics. Many times, business try to bypass the agreement of the contracts and pay less than prevailing wage. Not sure if this protest is a result of the items listed above or not. Keep in mind, low wages only pushes the worker toward public assistance once he can't get insurance, feed his family, educate his children, or put a roof over their heads. We pay either way. Why not pay a decent living wage to begin with?

Unions had their place and need at one time. Too bad they have gotten out of hand. Union people collect the big wages and benefits, however when they have to hire another contractor the majority of them will hire the so called scab so they dont have to pay the big union wage.
