Could it be that we have reached retail saturation and can't support the number of outlets we have?

I see that the Infrastructure Committee has an up and coming meeting scheduled for 2/26/12. (In reality the meeting is on the 27th.) The first thing on their agenda is to approve their January 16th meeting. No where have I been able to find an agenda posted for such meeting. Surely they did not meet once again without posting such!

I also see that Monday's regular council meeting agenda is once again lacking the "PUBLIC COMMENT" topic at the beginning of the meeting. Is this being done inadvertently or is it being done because there are topics to be voted on that citizens might like to comment on before a decision is made?

The Peru Park Board is given $50,000 from Property Tax and another $25,000 from the general fund. This is a grand total of $75,000 per year.Is this grand total ($75,000per year ) supposed to be used for events such as the Central States Baseball Tournament and the car shows etc. but through the old switcharoo they are incorrectly going directly to the council and asking them for donations.
Hence Peru has a Park Board receiving #75,000 per year and a council giving out a huge amount of money per year. A poster child of double dipping.

In a two week period Feb 13 - Feb 27 there will be three city council meetings conducted. At those meetings these organizations have or will ask for the following donations:

Feb. 13, $200 Spring Valley Walleye Association

Feb 13, $4,000/year for 5 years Peru Girls Softball League finances through tower lease

Feb 13, $4,000/year for 5 years Peru Boys Baseball League finances through tower lease

Feb 22, $2,500 Central States Boys Baseball Tournament

Feb 22, $1,000 Blood, Sweat & Gears

Feb 22, $1,000 I.V.Rodders

Feb 27, $1,000 Kids Fishing Expo @ Bakers Lake

This is donations which have been asked to be granted by the Peru City Council. Since the city has a Peru Park Board which receives $50,000 in property taxes and $25,000 from the general fund without any expenses of a swimming pool why are they not supporting these events if they are considered deserving of support?
The $1,000 to the Kids Fishing Expo should be revisited and increased for the good which it creates.

My apologies to the Infrastructure Committee. Apparently there was a meeting 1/16/12. I finally accidentally found the agenda for it listed on the city web-site under "minutes of meetings" not agendas.

Istn't Great we have a Mayor (Harl) all of the wonderful things he has done for our city the past three years? The latest non-involvement has been the leaving of Jewel and now K-Mart(which he knew about last year).

Mayor Baker brought in the Olive Garden Resturant even when he is no longer the mayor. How about Harl ? Any good words from anyone ?

As was stated a few months ago we, Peru, are headed for a Ghost town if we don't do something about the leadership of our city....

City Council Meeting Dec. 14, 2011

NEW BUSINESS
"Alderman Perez asked that public comment be allowed at the beginning of council meetings. Mayor Harl stated that he would allow time right after the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the meetings on a case by case basis"
TRANSPARENCY

ANON 9:43 What does a case by case basis mean? Does the mayor choose who gets to talk and who doesn't? Does he get to pick and choose which meetings have the public comment and which don't? It seems to me that when there is a questionable ordinance or proposal to be voted on that might stir some public interest the "public comment" part of the agenda is omitted. I guess if you like you can call that TRANSPARENCY!

Anon 9:46 Answering what case to case means and if the Mayor chooses who gets to talk and who doesn't, and if he gets to pick and choose which meetings have the public comment and which don't I refer you to the recent past practiced of Mayor Harl in his directives at council meetings.
If I wanted to utilize public comment at the start of a council meeting I would approach both of my alderman and inform them of such if public comment was included or not included in the agenda.

And then maybe you would get recognized depending on who you are.

Great, changing the agenda at the last minute from no public comment and no presentation to having a public comment and a presentation makes 7:18 PM look like johnny Carsons fortune teller, and Blago an altar boy.
