Were you able to hear the Tornado Sirens Last Night

New topic. I posted this on my blog and I hope you post it here also. This is a far more serious issue.

Last evening the area was struck by a series of tornados. Severe damage has been reported in Streator.

Thankfully the tornados did not hit Peru. However, the city did activate the warning sirens, as was appropriate. I heard the sirens on the west end, but they where not very loud. The sound was coming mainly from the north. I did not hear anything from the south. If I did not have my windows open, I doubt I would have heard a thing.

The Code Red Telephone system was not activated. I don’t understand why it was not. If the situation was serious enough to sound the sirens, the Code Red System should have been put to use.

I heard the sirens on the north end but I was outside. Is the Code Red System used for weather related issues?

A little off the subject here but does anyone know who is responsible for emptying the garbage containers found in all our parks?

I was told that Russ Schmitt is in charge of the parks. He and some others go around to the parks with a trailor and swap full cans/barrels for empty cans/barrels. If you are refering to the containers at the lake LOL... NO body wants to empty them. The garbage needs to be emptied by hand. The metal baskets are not lined and they can not be removed off of the post.

It is hard to find them during the week however you might find them doing this on a Sunday! We were visiting and saw the truck enter a park last Sunday.

I was at a game at Washington Park and noticed that some of the trees need to be trimmed. There is one by the big diamond that has all kinds of starters growing around it.. the same with some trees by the lake. The grass looked cut now they need to teach the kids how to manicure the trees and landscaping.

I too saw the truck on a Sunday. I thought there was no overtime except in emergencies. Are we sure the city is doing this?

Why not put garbage bags in those around the lake, then they would not have to be emptied by hand. Just pull the bag out and replace.

That makes sense! If our parks looked as good as some of our city employees yards, the parks would be featured in some gardening magazines.

I do not know how so may people visiting the parks can see these things and the people in charge of the parks can not. I understand the pool workers are working with the park people. More to get the work done but nobody wants to do the dirty work. Just ride on a mower and get a tan. Too many chiefs and not enough indians.
