OK Now Every Town in the Illinois Valley Can Laugh

OK all of you out there who have been following the drama of the deteriorating condition of the Peru Swimming Pool and the refusal of 7 of the 8 council members to vote for closing the pool, you can have a great big laugh at the results of tonight's meeting.

As was written on the agenda, Ald. Wren brought up the vote to rescind the councils previous decision to patch, paint and open the pool. Not one of our aldermen could bring themselves to second that vote. NOT ONE All pouting like little children because they can't bring themselves to the point of reality that in fact the pools structural failure occurred on their watch. This is no reasoning with this group, common sense does not prevail, it is absolutely unbelievable.

Our city atty reminded them about the extreme liability involved but it doesn't matter.
Supt. Bleck told them he has no workers to take on the kind of work that needs to be done.

Ald. Mertel said he had 35 calls to keep the pool open and only one against, so if you are in his ward, please call him as he is unable to make a sound decision without your phone call.

Some of the aldermen have not even been up to the pool to see the condition it is in, I swear this is unbelievable but true. Voting on something you don't understand must be acceptable practice with this council.

I am now reminding all the residents of Peru, that we are going to have an aldermanic election in April 2011 and the following will be up for election,,,Mertel, Waldorf and Potthoff and probably a vacancy in the second which is O'Beirnes seat as I believe he wants to retire.

If you are dissatisfied  with your current representation and you or someone you know has even an inkling of running for one of those seats, please give it some serious thought because we need you.

Why you write on something you don't understand so what is the difference?

Lois, what was the time and date of the meeting that Mayor Harl gave for anyone interested to come to the pool?

What I would like each and every one of you aldermen to answer is the following questions - Why did you allow our pool to get into such a sad, sad shape of disrepair and disintegration? If you're so upset about it today why didn't you take better care of it yesterday? You had the money back then and the supposed leadership you say is lacking today. WHY WHY WHY

Here we go again. Because the city council did NOT do what you want , you call for a vote to get rid of them. Well I Say it is the mayor that MUST GO. No leadership.
We need a city that works not plays games with frivoulous non important issues.
The census has told us in the past and will tell us shortly , PEOPLE ARE LEAVING THIS TOWN along with the children. Wake up before it is too late.
We don't need a pool or as many parks because people are not around to use them. Share with the surrounding towns like LaSalle, or the others. It works at a much better cost.

This vote has nothing to do with me or my family but it has to do with the children in our town. The councils lack of a vote tonight simply defies logical reasoning. If the aldermen want to have a pool for their own personal and private use that is unsafe I do not care but I do care when it concerns children that may unknowingly be put in harms way because of the lack of common sense being shown by our council members.

It is time for them to accept the inevitable demise of our pool and yes as you said move onto more important things before our city. Your last 3 paragraphs are excellent and should be the things the council is concerned about.

This continued farce is nothing more than a power play by the long sitting people who helped us fall into this bottomless pit of debt and we the residents are tired of the nonsense and say it is time for some new faces and new ideas. If we lack leadership it is because too many people are trying to be Mayor. We have elected Scott Harl as Mayor and it is illogical to say he must go. He has at least 3 more years in this term and saying the Mayor must go is foolishness. If there was a little more cooperation and respect shown not only to the Mayor but to all residents, we could all have a conversation not an argument. Their are so many chips on the shoulders in the council chambers we could have one good bonfire.

I am sure the city council have determined there vote by considering all aspects of the pool situation.
After all they are not stupid, they do know there positions responsibility.
If it is a power play as you say , I say from my point of view it is the mayor who is sticking out his chest to say"Look who I am " the mayor, you all better bow down. That is a bunch of crap.
The city council have done the right thing for this city for many of years and they need to continue doing the wonderful job they are doing.

If you want to see how great your mayor is ,take a look at the summer help kids working around town and the job they are doing. I surely would not have them do anything for me at my residence. A very poor job. For exammple check out the painted curb in front of the post office (Peru). I guess you would say it is great but I would not pay a dime for the job. How much are we paying them? Thanks Mayor..! More money wasted , AGAIN

I think this non vote, shows the stupidity of the council. One aldermen taught for years, one is the CEO of a pool, (would he let people enter his pool in poor condition)??? Two are young fathers, are they going to let their children swim in this pool??? I don't about the hair cutter, he usually just follows the other ones in his vote. I doubt The grocery store guy would let his granchildren swim.
Come you guys swallow your ego, and use what ever small part of a brain you have. I thank you Mr. Wren for doing what is right for the city of Peru.

I want you to know that the summer help is this year for the fist time working for minimum wage if they are new employees and some may have been former pool or park employees in the past. The job the kids are doing has "what" to do with the job the Mayor is doing? I don't follow your train of thought on that one.

If the City Council members have been doing such a great job for so many years, why was the city 40 mil in debt when the voters elected Mayor Harl?

Lois are you considering to run for alderwomen ?

Peru Town Forum said...

I am not but I am seriously encouraging several women I know to take up the challenge. We need some equal representation in this city.

I received a booklet either by mail or with the News Trib showing the LaSalle County Board is now comprised of 25% women.

We need to encourage women in the entire Illinois Valley to consider running for city office. It is the right time!

Does anybody have access to the total cost to operate and maintain the pool each year? Sorted by chemicals, labor, insurance, materials, repairs? Would love to see some of the detail in that expense report.
