Mautino has a degree in marketing, not accounting or finance. How does that qualify him for this position. $150,000 per year and the position is for 10 years, with raises each year.

Hopefully Harl will take over for Mautino and Peru can begin anew.

LMAO! How long before it is State Representative Harl!

"Get the "H" Out of Peru!"

Anonymous said...

1:38, at that level of State Government, there is no such thing as an actual requirement. The only real requirement is to be a Friend of Madigan.

Anonymous said...

1:38 PM A degree in Marketing calls for Accounting and Finance courses. 1:38 & 2:17 Your comments of Harl make no sense and fortunately carry no weight in the scheme of things.

I hope they appoint Waldorf as Mayor. Think of the fun.

It won't matter who the Mayor of Peru is when Harl goes to Springfield. Barnaby Jones will be running Peru and The Boss will still be The Boss.

Anonymous said...

3:05 PM Ask your local finance major or CPA is they think a few "accounting and finance courses" are enough to do the job of Auditor General.

3:05 - he was a brand manager for Daddy's business. In other words, besides being a State Representative, his only experience is as a Beer Salesman.

I've been saying for years that the degree of fund raising that Boss Harl has been doing can only mean one thing. He is making connections and proving his abilities to be elected to higher office. The way things are done in Illinois is that the incumbent usually done not just decide to not run for office. Incumbents have such an advantage that their party discourages elections between two "non-incumbents." So, the guy or gal always runs and then resigns the office midterm. This allows the local party gurus to select a replacement. That is how Sue Rezin was first put in office. This gave her - as it would anyone - a distinct advantage in the next election.
Now Boss Harl has quite a stash of money. More than what is necessary to run for Mayor of a small town. More than Frankie actually has. Look it up folks, Frnkie has $24K. The Boss has about $40K. But, Mautino just came off a hard election - so that might not be all that relevant.

yup. The Boss wants to be State Representative. And he has made his bones to do it.

Anonymous said...

So where is the guy that kept saying "you people are crazy if you think Mautino is going to resign" ???

Has Boss Harl made a statement yet? Nothing in the NT about this yet. Ottawa times picked up the story.

The Peru City Council needs to halt all discussions about a City Administrator until after Rep. Mautino's replacement is announced. The Democrat Party in the district will decide who is appointed to fill Mautino's remaining year in office. Chances are good that it will be Mayor Harl.

If that happens, whoever is appointed Mayor of Peru will need to weigh in on how the future government of Peru is structured. I'm making an assumption that Alderman P. will be the new Mayor.

The next few weeks are crucial to the future of Peru.

Why would I ask a finance or accounting major if a few accounting and finance courses are enough to be qualified to be a Auditor General when I already know that they are. With Representative Mautino's Marketing degree and years of Springfield experience he is a perfect fit and Mayor Harl would be a outstanding replacement for him or maybe you would rather have someone from outside our immediate area who will do nothing for the Illinois Valley.

Anonymous said...

Peru should not and must not stand still to wait for all assumptions of the future to materialize. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see Representative Mautino become Auditor General and Mayor Harl be appointed Representative Harl.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:43 What makes you think that the next few weeks are crucial to the future of Peru? Are you predicting 40 days and nights of rain floating Representative Harls Ark to Springfield?

Anonymous said...

It doesn't matter if a city administrator is appointed now. When a new mayor takes over, that new mayor can do whatever (s)he wants. If the new mayor does not want a city administrator, (Potthoff does not), (s)he can just get rid of that position. Just like the new mayor can get rid of the ASM and PSM, both appointed positions.

Anonymous said...

8:52 - not entirely true... If the council votes to create the position. The new administrator will be hired and the position, not matter how ill-defined, will become part of the Peru Code of Ordinances.

Harl is a Lame Duck for the next few weeks - until we find out if he will indeed take over for Mautino. Until then PERU SHOULD DO NOTHING! If a new Mayor is appointed, START OVER!

The prospect of Frank Mautino becoming Auditor General and Scott Harl becoming a State Representative does not bode well for the State of Illinois. However, in the grand scheme of things, it is sort of like a terminally ill patient getting athlete's foot. It might be annoying but it has no impact on the bigger problems that need to be solved. So, it is time for Peru to be selfish. Harl can cause no damage for at least ten years, if he lasts that long. Chances are, the Republican Party will finally find a good candidate to run against a week and ineffective representative. Mautino as Auditor General will simply be the status quo. It is a good burial ground for loyal party politicians. Has anyone ever heard of this "constitutional office" before? Maybe if we are lucky it we can consolidate it with the other redundant financial officers that never seem to live up to the job description.
So Peru, lets look at this as opportunity. Opportunity to rid our city government of political corruption and a chance to allow the Republicans a shot at our district.

Still nothing in the News Tribune as of 6:45 this morning. Story has been out since yesterday. Lets see, the Ottawa Times has it. So does:
The Decatur Harold Review
The Carbondale Southern
The Bloomington Pantagraph
Chicago Sun Times

I hate to be the one to throw cold water on those of you are all lathered up about the notion that Harl will be appointed to Mautino's spot in the state legislature. My sources tell me that Harl lacks the political stroke with LaSalle County Democrats to get the nod. I hear that LaSalle County Board Chairman Jerry Hicks wants to slither into Frank's spot in Springfield and Hicks holds much more sway than Harl in the stinking and sordid world of LaSalle county party politics. I'm sorry to have to rain on this parade of fare-the-wells to our gastronomically challenged Mayor, but it's just not in the cards folks. Besides, a little birdie told me that the chunky mayor from Peru actually has his sights set on displacing Sue Rezin from her state senate seat. Beleive me folks, I'm just as anxious as any of you to be rid of the scheming and scamming "Scoundrel of Peru".
All we can do is wait until the state senate election comes around and throw our support behind someone we basically despise. Now that is some interesting Peru style politics. Let's get the H out of Peru asap!

Anonymous said...

So the NT updates the web page with a story about Ramadan in their top 3 - but still nothing about Mautino. Are they waiting to be told how to spin this?

Anonymous said...

7:41, in theory it is the LaSalle County Democrats along with Bureau County and part of Putnam County (I think) that will decide. However, in practice, it is Michael Madigan that will decide. He runs the State Party (and the State for that matter). The Boss has been sucking up to him since day one. Look at the union donations from Chicago. Look at the Lawyer donations from Chicago. Finally, take a look at the Committee to Elect Jerry L Hicks finance report: $796. No fund raising activities - meaning no contact with state officials and donors.

Nope - My bet is that Boss Madigan will make a few calls, and le voilĂ .

The Daily Disappointment wouldn't know responsible and accurate reporting if they were smacked in the face with it. The NT editorial staff, (that's a laugh) is definately clueless and waiting for some insider (probably Vickrey) to tell them how to spin the story. When you see the local publication get scooped on a story of huge local concern by virtually every legitimate newspaper in the state you know this Fish-Wrapper is nothing more than a patsy for the local politicians. Disgraceful excuse for a newspaper. Just disgraceful.

Anonymous said...

9:13, the point here is that they don't know how to report on this. They need input from the elected officials - like almost everything, they will be a cheerleader when the time comes.

Anonymous said...

8:47 AM, I hope and pray you're right. It does make sense that the insiders making the decision will be influenced by Madigan as well as Mautino and will take into consideration the existing campaign funds and fundraising capacity of the person to replace Mautino. I stand corrected and will be praying each and every day for Peru to be delivered from the robust "Scoundrel of Peru", Scott Harl.

Anonymous said...

7:41 I am as eager for Harl to get out of Peru and move on to Mautino's position as you. I don't think making remarks about his weight is necessary. Everybody has their problems, and remarks about somebody's appearance are never justified. You can make all the snide remarks about his politics, but not about his physical appearance.

Anonymous said...

5:42, the position is not a hire, it will be an appointed position, this gives the next elected mayor the right to appoint his own people

Anonymous said...

The Dems won't put Harl in there are you kidding me? Perez ruined any political advancement for Scotty. Harl would have to pull a Rauner and dump hundreds of thousands to try and convince people he's trustworthy. Won't happen.
Dems are looking at Christine Benson to fill that seat.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully this breaking news will convince Jerry Long to run again. He said he would not, but that was before this news. A one year DEM in Mautino's seat makes the district prime pickings for a Republican. Mautino won the last election by only 300 votes.

Anonymous said...

@7:41 AM As a person who party wise made a effort to keep the Dem. vs. Rep. aspect out of Peru politics and remain neutral I find your description of Mayor Harl disgusting.
Weight for many of us is difficult to control and when changing to a demanding life style which includes political lunches and dinners it even becomes harder. I know for a fact that the Mayor takes long daily walks every morning before going to city hall in a effort to control his weight.
Your terminology i.e. gastronomically challenged Mayor, chunky Mayor from Peru, and finally the scheming and scamming "Scoundrel of Peru" all have very little to do with being qualified to be Mayor.
Leadership characteristics, ability to unite a group for a well chosen cause, desire to challenge impossible odds for progress are what I desire to judge by, not some number on a scale of which you find such importance.
7:41 AM I do have one question for you which is, Why do a few persist in searching for straws to discredit those who are on a positive upswing which would result in a gain for the huge majority of our own area. Please, don't continue to build walls to stop the opportunity for success. I do know that you are politically savvy to understand my comment.

We don't need an ultra conservative Republican in office with absolutely no experience like Jerry Long. By the looks of Mautino's voting record he seems to be a slightly more conservative democratic finding support from both sides of the aisle. He was successful with his bi-partisanship.

Anonymous said...

Harl is a progressive pure and simple. We don't need any more of that in Springfield. By keeping him here in Peru, he will be our progressive. Meaning, he will take money from the surrounding communities to maintain our government and infrastructure. Don't you people see how good we have it? LaSalle and Oglesby pay for our street programs! Spring Valley pays for our subsidized electricity! Dalzell pays for our new school! Utica pays for our police cars and fire trucks! This is great!
My property tax was only $3,000. I really don't pay for water and electricity since I work during the day and nobody is home - highest bill last year, $200. Yup, it is great having everyone else pay our bills - Keep Harl In Peru!

The Ottawa Times has another article on how the process will work to replace Mautino. It is called: Selection process usually secret and was in yesterday's edition on-line. It is not on the front page anymore, but you can search for it.

Still - NOTHING in the News Tribune. Except for the announcement on WLPO on Thursday, there is a FULL NEWS BLACKOUT on this significant story. What else are we missing?

Anonymous said...

7:45, what do you consider an "Ultra-Conservative?" Somebody that believes in the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and Individual Liberty instead of Rule through Executive Orders, Government Supremacy, and Collectivism?

Anonymous said...

The mayor takes walks every morning?? Haha , where to Christine's Kitchen ? I deliver early news papers and have never seen him . Don't lie ! It's true alot deal with weight problems, don't lie about it !

Anonymous said...

who cares. I'm fat to. Not something to get sidetracked on unless you are one of those Progressives that think they should be in everybody's business.

Anonymous said...

While Madigan and Mautino continue to feed at the government trough, manufacturing jobs continue to flee Illinois. And to the Progressive that continues to counter my comments with "all the manufacturing has gone to China anyway" I say this: these jobs are not - they are going to neighboring states that have common sense labor laws realistic laws and tax policy.

"General Mills announced July 16 it will shut down a manufacturing plant in West Chicago, laying off 500 local food-manufacturing workers at the plant. One day earlier, Bunge North America announced 210 manufacturing jobs will disappear after the closure of its plant in Bradley, Illinois.

The General Mills news comes just two days after machine-maker DE-STA-CO announced it would move 100 jobs from Wheeling, Illinois to Nashville, Tennessee; and 10 days after an as-yet-unnamed company announced it will move 500 manufacturing jobs from the Chicago area to East Chicago, Indiana."
