I was throughly disgusted seeing a person a person who is a city employee getting drunk yesterday in Spring Valley. This person should be setting examples. Not going to put a name, but this person is mentioned often on this blog. Disgusting. And not get a dui, hummmmmmm, drives also....

12:00 PM, please take a look at the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution which was ratified on December 5, 1933.

If you saw that person drive while drunk, YOU should have called the police. But I have a feeling this person enjoyed himself responsibly.

You are the one that disgusts me. You are the one trying to force your sense of morality on others which is totally Un-American and is another example of political correctness run amok in our country. I Think I'll drink to your unnamed city worker. Maybe I'll have two.

You are the most un American hateful people ever lois. I pray for you every Sunday. What a hypocrite.

@9:14 PM Most un American, hateful person, hypocrite is your description of a creation of God whom you pray for every Sunday. why don't you also pray for the reasons to be filled that have caused you to be the way you are.

I know, we need to ban the TV Show "Cheers" because it takes place in a BAR - OMG I can't believe they would allow that!

Then showing the American flag might offend immigrants, legal or otherwise. We should stop displaying the American Flag and only display the UN flag.

Since we believe in Majority Rule, we need to change our language to the language that is spoken by the majority of people in the world, Chinese.

My goodness some of these comments and others recently are nothing but nonsense. They a direct reflection of the people who enter them and have no bearing on our local educational system.
The United States has a overkill of laws and many would like a sensible reduction but basically they are there to protect law abiding citizens and groups and their life and property. Some of these people are waning to be heard but they are only a pimple on the ass of the 60's hippie. Peaswe and love from all, to all and for all get naked brothers and sisters.

At one time colleges taught people how to express themselves. They also encouraged free speech and free expression of all ideas and thoughts.

Today, the colleges are advocating that people DO NOT practice free speech - unless the speech is approved and supports their point of view. "Free Speech Zones" are becoming common. These are tiny little areas that are set aside, away from everyone else, that are the only places people are allowed to proactive the first amendment. It has gotten to the point today that comedians won't even play college towns because of he political correctness.

So - tonight I will go home and raise my Dixie Flag, open up a cold beer, march around in my German uniform, leave my gas hog of an SUV running in the driveway, spray cans of aerosol, grill a well marbled steak, praise the lord, pass the ammunition, read about communism, and right letters in support of and against abortion and make a donation to the police fund.

and if it is not obvious, the grammar and spelling is sarcasm... :)

Is anyone in the city trying to get new restaurants to locate here? I'd like to see a White Castle and a Jack in the Box. Maybe a Sonics. I'm tired of breadsticks, fish, pink slime burgers.

I just heard on the radio this morning that John C. Calhoun supported slavery! We have a street in Peru named after him.
I looked it up, "After 1830, his views evolved and he became a greater proponent of states' rights." States Rights is Southern Code for Slavery. "He is best known for his intense and original defense of slavery as a positive good." "He distrusted majority rule."
OMG! How can we allow a street in Peru to be named after him! Time to change it!

I'd like a Waffle House. They are Good. Or maybe a Shoney's - the best real American Food! Something about seen a Waffle House of a Shoney's that says "I'm in a good city that encourages business."

White Castle is Northern elitist. We need a Krystal. We also need a Taco Bueno - I'm tired of the Bell. For burgers there is no place better than Jack's. Man, I need to take a drive south and get some good food that isn't fried in a bar.

The blog has gone right off the deep end. wow.

I guess you don't like fast food 10:01. But, I'll take Shoney's over Barnaby's Supper Club any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Misspelling is deliberate. You can keep the Waffle House - they smell funny to me.

Speaking of elitists - is anyone else getting a little tired of our local "morning man" on the AM / FM dial. I mean really, isn't it getting annoying how he talks down his nose, painting himself as some sort of saint? You can tell when he's about to do it. For instance, when he says "I'm all for XXX, but..." When he says "but" you know he is about to do it. Like this morning he went off on the Peru fireworks, even though we didn't have any. He said, "I'm all for fireworks but, I think everyone is tired of the freak show in Peru."

OK - reading the paper today, I see the big push for a new police and fire station near I-80 is on. A very long article on how crime is sifting to people the retail district. At the very end..

“I do see someday Peru having need for a substation in the north section of the community,” he said. “I think Peru has the retail and as commercial areas grow there will be a day that we would like to see a satellite public safety building manned at least during the daytime that is staffed by the police, a fire engine and ambulance.

Lois - you should start a new topic on this. Because if Barnaby gets his way we are going to double the police and fire departments.

Funny how the news media is being used to condition the "sheeple" of Peru. A few more articles and Old Rod on the Radio and the people will be begging for a new station.

11:40 AM, You are correct in your description of how easily the local media is manipulated by Peru's phony self-important bigshots. It is so obvious for those of us who know what kind of devious and despicable people are doing the manipulating in Peru. There is of course no need for a "satellite" fire or police station, but that will be lost on the sheeple of Peru after several carefully scripted articles in the Daily Fishwrapper explaining the great need for a new state-of-the-art facility up north. In fact, I would not be surprised if there were not some type of "manufactured incident" up there that will ceretainly demonstrate the need for a "huge investment in public safety" way up there in the northern region of Peru. After all, it's almost a ten minute drive from downtown to Wal-Mart. The saddest part of this scam is the fact that the bonehead aldermen will all jump on board and never question it or demand an honest professional assessment of the need. I can't help but think of how great Peru could be if we had a professional manager representing the interests of the people of Peru instead of corrupt political insiders representing the interests of other Peru insiders and themselves. I predict this "satellite" facility will cost no less than $3,000,000 and maybe as much as $6,000,000. But the property will be purchased from a Peru insider. The design and engineering will be directed to Peru insider firms. Construction will have to be bid, but they will try to provide an advantage to a preferred insider contractor. This is not the first scam of this type in Peru and it won't be the last. Can't wait to hear all the critical reasons why this project must be put on the "fast-track" asap.
Harl will probably have his rubber-stampers on the council approve a "Public Safety Task Force" to put their stamp of approval on the idea. Gotta love the Peru Task Force form of Governemnt. LOL!

No conspiracy here. No scam. Makes sense to me business wise at some point. Response time is everything but of course you 1:31 is the dolts who don't understand why Peru needs more infrastructure or more police. It's because we are not a little bedroom community. We are unique in several ways. Imperfect in some, but so much better in others. Anonymous armchair quarterbacks like you make for good entertainment though. Thank you for that.

1:31, don't forget a Home Rule Public Safety Sales Tax.

Read in today's NT that CIT Trucks is building a place in LaSalle. Peru missed out big time with this company. This is a great company! Go LaSalle!!

Anonymous said...

Nothing new, has been talked about for many years. Kind of ironic bringing up when the Task Force will be making a decision soon. Ulterior motive.

Anonymous said...

3:44 and what would you critics say about the $600,000 in business aid? A truck terminal in Peru would take up retail tax potential. Less $600,000 in taxes. Review all the options before analyzing the impact on your city. More traffic, more roads to repair with less revenue? $600,000. Its good that they stay local. Why is Peru the loser of the development?

Anonymous said...

no it does not make sense. Peru has an area of less than ten square miles. We do not NEED two police stations and we do not NEED two fire stations.

If crime is a problem in the retail district, structure the patrol accordingly. Don't move the home base - which the patrol should not be hanging out in anyway. I would much rather spend money on hiring additional police officers than building Barnaby Jones a new facility.

Also - maybe do something with traffic lights - like actually have them at some of the 4-way stop signs - so police can respond quickly from the perfectly adequate HQ building on Route 6 to the north part of the city.

Nope - this is just conditioning for a huge public works project just around the corner. New public works building, new police station, new fire station. Yup - they sure know how to spend other people's money.

Hey 4:21 PM July 7 - did you see the correction in tonight's NT about the amount of money CIT will get from LaSalle? Only $50,000. Still think Peru didn't lose out? The roads are already going to be maintained from the sand company.

Again....what did Peru miss out on!

Anonymous said...

nothing, the company is staying in the local area. I don't care if I have to drive to LaSalle or even Ottawa to go to work. This is why we need to stop economic development at the town level and turn it over to a regional group. All Peru cares about in economic development is sales tax - end of story. Our director is very short sighted. He does not care about jobs for people, he wants tax revenue for the city. Since the vast majority of active voters in Peru are retired, they don't care about jobs either - they want free bread sticks and other such nonsense. So there is the problem. Peru is spending all their economic development bucks on getting sales tax. Meanwhile, in 15 years there will be nobody left to shop in the "Biggest Little City of 10,0000." You can take that to the Bank! Or... keeping with them modern revenue producing trend in politics - You can put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Another TIF Sucker Crony Business!

8:55 AM ask your mayor, aldermen, and economic development director what they missed out on.

You have a very short sighted view of business and very limited experience in economic development.

Those same businesses provide jobs for many. Peru has thousands employed in factories and the service industry like the local hospital. Eakas-400 employees, IVCH-400 employees, James Hardie-500 employees, Nickeloid-Maze nail, Peru MALL 300 EMPLOYEES. We could go on and on. Yes, Peru has the inside on retail. They use those tax dollars to put more money in your pocket and less on your real-estate tax bill.

Its tough to be critical of a small town that has such low real-estate taxes from a city standpoint. They also helped the educational system with building two new schools without a hike in taxes. Those evil politicians must have some fiscal aptitude.

Yes, Peru has plenty of retirement options and many are moving back to enjoy small town life without huge tax bills, low crime rates, and low cost of living. Nothing wrong with seniors living in town. I doubt that there won't be anything but seniors living in town in the next 15 years. Many of those seniors keep the economy going, they have spending power. And much more in volunteer positions and great experience and knowledge.

Did you know that retail locates in areas that need services and supplies? Its just not Peru its the entire Illinois VALLEY.

IVCH is going under and besides - it is just about 100% reliant on Medicare. In other words, it is a government institution in all but name. Nickaloid, Maze, Eakas, James-Hardie are great. Love them to death. But, they have been here for many years. In fact, the current government almost ran one of them out of town. Point is - we need more like this. More machine shops like SKS. More "real" work. Retail will follow all by itself - Peru is well established and the retailers tend to stick were the retail traffic is. At this point, I do not believe that Peru needs to do anything but maintain and expand infrastructure to gain new retail.

What we need to do is something to attract heavy industry to the region. The sand plants and terminals are great. Keep going. But manufacturing is on the rise - even Peru factories are hiring. The time is ripe to go out and cater to that group. That is what will bring in engineers, skilled workers, you know, the type of people that build a middle class.

I stand by my statement. Our development director is simply trying to get a bigger slice of the Social Security pie.

We need more mining!, more manufacturing!, more logistics!, more process industries!

11:18, you are wrong. We need tourism. I want to sell corn dogs all summer and live on unemployment all winter. We need gambling. We need Marijuana.

of course that was all sarcasm. What I really want to see are factories and warehouses. I literally want to see the corn fields paved over and replaced with buildings and parking lots. And NO UNION RATS!

Yea! we get $8.25 an hour jobs at Wally World.
