Can someone please explain to me why our tax dollars were being wasted yesterday...I noticed yesterday (Saturday) morning there were city of Peru employees out either placing garbage cans or emptying garbage cans in some of the parks. Are you serious?? Overtime was being paid I'm sure!? I know for a fact the city employees are not so busy during the weekdays that this type of task could not have been completed then!! Maybe someone should be reviewing some time cards and demanding explanations on senseless overtime. Really city council, mr. Mayor..this is our tax money you're allowing to be wasted. Sorry...this subject doesn't belong under this heading, just very frustrated the way the city is wasting money!!

I know for a fact that there at least two council members that read this blog...Rodney and Sherry...we would appreciate an explanation on this issue. Please look into this or explain the reason if you are already aware of this. Do not turn a blind-eye to this please!!

I agree William. We deserve an answer to this. Even if there is a reason for the overtime there is no reason to be using that time to perform a task that had been done the day before. There is plenty of work to be done in this city.

Not saying that this is the reason, just speculation on my part, but it may be possible that in the public works employee's collective bargaining agreement, if they get called out for overtime, usually it's for a minimum period (2-4 hours is standard). Is it possible they could have been called out for a wastewater treatment plant or other public works issue, and had a little time to "waste" and used that time going around to the parks checking the trash? If that's the case, I'd much rather have them doing that, then sitting around waiting for the time clock to hit that magic number so they can go home.

Business Sense: Even if that is the case do they have to perform a task that was already completed? Yes, I'd rather see them do work rather than sit around but not the same work they did the day before. There are plenty of things that need attention.
