JUST IN TIME FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

And our asst bldg inspector wants to treat it as a jewelry store? Anyone else wonder why this person is still a Peru city employee. I guess he is encouraging a fast track to further destruction in whats left of downtown Peru.

Do we really need one of these short lived businesses cropping up in Peru and it sounds like they want to be downtown?. Spring Valley has one at the corner of Rte 6 and 89 already.

Starting to look like abandoned neighborhoods in Chicago or is it really a sign of our economic times?. If it is the economy will someone please tell the people running this city money is not abundant in our pockets.

At one time Peru abandoned Water Street as a business district because of continued flooding. Business moved uphill to Fourth Street and became the Main Street of Peru or as it became known as our downtown. Never a large area but always some Mom and Pop shops that did survive on local business and 2 still remain as Debos and Vlastnik.

The heart of Peru has been abandoned by everyone...almost.

Now much of there business comes in through the back door and people don't see what is right next door to them.

Even the building of the city hall did not encourage businesses to locate in downtown and we continued to get "adult only specialty shops"
and sadly the decline is continuing. Has it become time once again to abandon our current business district and move on.

The Maud Powell Plaza was to be one of the highlites of downtown as people moved around shopping and eating. She now looks very lonely standing amidst the leaf strewn courtyard and empty benches. About all you see there are an occasional squirrel or some birds.

Is it to late to reclaim what was once our downtown? It does appear that our reactive and not proactive city government believes that to be true.

If appearances are fact the city has another new business as Franks jewelry store has a big bright OPEN sign all lite up. City Ordinance is likely to follow. Does this indicate that the city is going to protect Franks jewelry store by grandfathering it in and than not allowing any others to open in town. What a business would pay for the protection of not ever having competition. Can you picture the lawsuit when you have one such store in the town and the next person who wants to open one is told he cannot.

Frank's Jewelry would be appropriate and maybe they could hire him to get him out of city hall.
