I know that Bleck and the Aldermen and the Mayor are aware of this particular bench because I was at the council mtg where the issue was brought to their attention and I believe that was in the summer. And as you can see nothing has been done. Is the city waiting for another lawsuit because a child insured himself on this broken piece of park equipment? I guess if Central States was going to be at that park, it might have been taken care of, do you think so?

How Proud are you of our parks?
We hear periodically about things in our parks that need to be repaired, repainted or replaced. It is the people of Peru who see the problems and I would hope they mention them to their alderman who should go to the proper person. Is the Superintendent of Public Works Gary Bleck responsible for managing the department and the people who are responsible for maintaining our parks. If so from the looks of this bench, it appears he is not getting the job done.

I would imagine the “boss” at Washington Park garage could easily arrange the repair of this bench.
However if this and other examples of disrepair are not taken care of I imagine his “boss” should be informed. Anyone know who is above the “boss” at Washington Park garage?

These pictures are an embarrasment to our city and show a complete lack of pride in our parks.
Ahh the adminastration is to worried about building the gun range for the police, rather than everyday city business.
back in the day the police were allowed to shoot at the state police range.
Eight days latter and no one down at city hall has taken any steps to get this rectified. Aldermen were reminded and nothing happens. Do you think that the SPW knows about the bench?
P.S. He lives in this subdivision.
I believe I will read the job description fot the Public Works Superintendent and see if it is listed.
I found it, "Responsible for the construction and repair of all streets, sidewalks, alleys, bridges, viaducts and any other public structure or property constructed by the city".
or
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow for all divisions under Public Works including water, sewer, streets, cemetery, landfill, buildings and GROUNDS AND PARKS.
I emailed SPW Bleck and he said the jagged edges of the bench have been fixed for now. Hopefully in the spring a new bench can be purchased and the old one removed.
I heard from Gary Bleck that the bench is in such poor condition that it will be removed and replaced. It could not be fixed.
Thank you Sherry, working together does accomplish some things.
I guess diligence and determination does result in action. The dilapidated and dangerous bench has finally been removed from 28th street park. I only hope it will be replaced next summer and I'm glad no one got hurt on it before action was taken. I'd like to give a special thanks to alderwoman Mayszak and this blog (Lois) for their help.
Several months later and its finally done. Boy do we work fast or what!
