Who is our budget officer (never heard of that position before) and what is meant by "discuss 1/2% sales tax"? I thought that was established for our roads and infrastructure. Wonder if the mayor will change how many meetings we have each month since the calendar dates will be voted on.

Sounds like some sweet salary raises for everybody. Excluding the residents of Peru. It did't take Harl long to get the idea that he needs more money. Lets review the report card, higher real estate taxes, higher sales tax, higher electric rates, higher water/sewer rates. That equals higher elected official salaries.

The agenda for Wednesday's council meeting includes an ordinance establishing dates for 2012 council meetings. This is all well and good except if you go to the city web-site you'll see that the 2012 city calendars are ready for pick up. Why wasn't this ordinance established and voted on before the calendar was printed? Unless I'm totally missing something it's only a formality now. Someone please explain. I thought maybe this was an opportunity for the mayor to limit the meetings to two per month as he had promised during his campaigning. Does anyone know if the new calendars have 2 or 4 meetings/month for our council?

better question - why are we giving away calendars?

This is just a message to you Lois has nothing to do with this post . Why is the city testing for Fulltime Firefighters ? I didn't see any posting of anyone retiring . And why do they need to be an EMT ? The current firefighters aren't EMT's . Three of the 4 Fulltimers never took the class because they didn't want to plain and simple , the other is already an EMT because he already had that cert. This this just part of the big secret plan to get an ambulance crew in Peru Fire or are they going to waste more tax dollars by adding more firefighters sitting there all day because Peru thinks they need a Fully staffed firehouse when they average 1 call a day ? When are they going to test for chief ? Why should King just slide in that position ? it needs to be advertised to get the best candidate , not someone's buddy . It seems like the ones we elect are doing what they want for their personal agenda wasting our tax dollars . We're all just gonna wake up one day and have a Fulltime fire department , Fulltime chief , and a Fire based EMS . This is gonna cost Peru alot of money just to do the testing . Our elected officials think we're just gonna stand by and let this happen ? They have another thing coming , next election ! The ad was in tonites Help wanted section .
