I see that there is another "committee as a whole meeting" scheduled for Monday. What I don't understand is the proposed agenda for this meeting. In my opinion it is not an agenda. There is nothing specific listed to be discussed. A prime example of that was the last meeting which only lasted 1/2 hour and we fumbled to find a topic to discuss. These meetings are a good idea but the implementation is wrong.

The above comment was reposted, I did not actually originate it.

What the hell are these elected officials thinking? Are they just thinking too much? Do they think inventing job titles is the secret to success? More new phony titles?
Administrative Services
Director? Public Services Director? Public Utilities Director? You have got to be joking! These paople have this city so screwed up and they think they can solve the problem by dreaming up catchy sounding phony-baloney job titles. Hire a City Engineer? Remove the title of City Engineer? Somebody has got to take charge of this city before these guys run out of job descriptions for all these people not actually on the payroll, or doing any real work, or supervising any departments.
What a damn disgrace.

Scott Schweickert is being added as corporate counsel? Was this position advertised or it is automatically handed down to the current corporate counsel's son?

Head of the Water Dept was handed down from father to son. Department Head of the electrical dept was handed down from father to son-in-law to son.Total how many years of nepotism was accumulated, now the legal representation of 30+ years is going to be handed from father to son. And still no one knows who is giving the OK to hold another concert at the airport. Who has given the OK without a city council vote and approval?

Can someone tell us what all these positions are and are we going to advertise them or have they already been filled? And, are we eliminating the city engineer position and then looking to hire one? And, when were all these decisions made? And, in what committee? And, shouldn't there be a council discussion regarding these vacancies before action is taken?

If I was a resident of Peru, Illinois I'd be careful of the actions of its representation. No small town government has this history or job title changes successfully. Has anyone ever given thought to calling in a outside government source to conduct a investigation?
In the burbs all job openings involving tax money are advertised, why not? A detailed newspaper ad plus ads in a professional magazine and the hiring of a professional head hunting firm are standard operating procedure.

We don't need an outside government review. We should be demanding an outside firm conduct an audit of all management practices.
We should consider hiring a municipal management company to run the show.
Sorry to say, the local talent is not up to the task. Our aldermen are not all that bright and they find it difficult to learn about new things or modern life in general (in the outside world). Our local businesses lack vision of life outside "the valley." Our Mayor operated a crane for most of his professional life.
Sometimes it is easier to just scrap everything and start over. Do you thinks we could "un-incorporate" Peru and fire everybody? Is it possible to fire everyone associated with the city today and bring in a management company from the real world (outside the corruption of Illinois) and have them set up a community for us? We obviously are not smart enough to do this ourselves. Even our citizens have a limited world view - we are not a well traveled bunch. Those that venture "off the island" we call the Illinois Valley, seldom return. When they do, it is only to reaffirm the reasons they left in the first place.
Yes, I am convinced that in order to save this community, we need to make it an absolute requirement that anyone that has lived in the area more than five of the last ten years be permanently disqualified from making any decisions. Our community is just not smart enough for self government.

I talked with a alderman and heard there is a very smart plan in place with less government, council oversight, not just mayor. that will save city money and be more efficient. This will give the city the time to find the right person to run public works and electric in the long term.I was told that a few other cities have been interested in what Peru has been doing because of the positive reviews since the first of the year when Shawn left and they when with the temporary bosses. Give it a chance since you don't even know the details. Once you hear them then you can criticize. You show your hands to much when you criticize just because that is what you do. At least wait then let them have it. lol

Anon 8:31 AM You have brought up some very strong points. Some of them a little too harsh but never the less if twisted and tweaked they evidently apply. I am hesitant to agree with you about the intelligence of our community. I do believe that there are individuals with the potential to make intelligent decisions for the betterment of Peru. I also believe that these individuals have become lethargic and satisfied over the many years of the Baker regime and are willing to allow whoever is office to make all their decisions for them. This why grants and progressive taxes such as retail taxes are so popular because these individuals have a security feeling that it has no effect on them and therefor it has no effect upon city office holders. This administration is completely aware of this and will continue to utilize Peru's retail section to the maximum until they kill it.

Reading between the lines of your post means we will add additional duties to the Police Chief/Co Supt. of PW and Fire Chief/Zoning Inspector/Co Supt of PW. We aimed too high in our attempt to hire an electrical engineer and we are now looking for a city engineer who might possibly have ties to the city of Peru. Since this is the first pubic announcement, it means that meetings somehow, somewhere have been taking place.
I am not sure about the smart part of all of this but to me it seems that either we are not too eager to bring in what we need most and that is outside hires to the important vacant positions or the city does not know how to do it correctly.
Why is it that LaSalle has hired a Supt. of PW and a Civil City Engineer is less time than we have wasted trying to do the same?
How would other cities know what we are doing unless our elected officials are going around telling them what our plans are before they tell their own residents.

Where is the FBI inestigation?did anything come of that

The FBI investigation is continuing.

Saw the FBI agents north of Peru thus morning . Still ongoing . We were told this would be a lengthy investigation.

I was talking with a friend and they were saying that unityde was building a facility on the land next to flying J in LaSalle and ground is being broken supposedly today. Having another facility in LaSalle instead of Peru? Is this true? If true, what does this tell you?

Anonymous said...

11:50 - it tells me they got a better deal on electricity from Ameren and they are not putting the process that has the larger electric load at the Peru facility. I'm happy they are expanding into LaSalle. At least it is still in the local area and they will continue to employ local people. The larger question is how many lost opportunities for new industrial development in the local area have been lost because everyone is preoccupied with sales tax instead of attracting new facilities that will hire more local people.
We have a decreasing population with no reason for young people to stay. Eventually, the Baby Boomers will stop spending their retirement money and their kids will take what is left to wherever it is they call home now.

FBI must be incompetent. Judge Balestri had the Investigation wrapped up within a few weeks with no findings. Perhaps Balestri was better off with a gavel in his hand instead of Harls defective magnifying glass.
Employees are saying employees being interviewed aren't holding back and starting to point fingers.
Must be an intimidating feeling to be in the middle of that crap. They can thank the Mayor and Perez for that mess!

Sorry that you feel that way because most of the people that read and participate in this blog and know the long and at times tarnished history of Peru are happy to finally someone of authority do some investigating.

Don't you just love the way this administration keeps the public informed of what is taking place in Peru. I guess when they previously announced the appointment of Mr Mikos and found that they were asked some questions about the prospective new engineer ruffled their feathers of the Public Works Committee and this time kept it all under cover until the engineer was present. Despite all that I wish Mr Carls all the luck in the world with his new position and hope it works out for him and the city.
The other 2 titles given to 2 people in place over the Public Works Dept. are meaningless.
