Road Blockage Between Walnut and Buffalo Until Further Notice

Today a water main was repaired at 7th and Walnut Street in the East end of Peru. Somehow an ATT line or cable was damaged and multiple phones are without service including ours. I heard that it will be closed most of tomorrow at least and through tonight.

24 hours latter and still no phone service.

Loved how the Miller group reports it. Our crack crew cut an unmarked cable.

Never blame the crews that cut the cables, always the utilities.

Something is still wrong, road is repaired and our primary phone is still out of service. Did the ATT online thing and it will be repaired no later than June 4. Hope they have a better way to repair than tearing up the road again.

6:16, shows how naive you are with a remark like that, the crew wouldn't have an idea where another utilities lines are especially if they are mislocated by the owners utility.

Anon 6:25 AM If all suppliers of public services and utilities are as inefficient as you describe it is no wonder R & M costs are so high. Your description is nothing more than pure waste and I can only hope that you are incorrect!
Lois is correct and with modern day communication everyone is only seconds from speaking to anyone else.
Your explanation defends inadequate supervision and business practices because it is only making sure everyone gets a days work out of a project whether it was truly there or not.

1:12 what I'm saying is that when there is any kind of break , water ,sewer ,electric , if the locate that the other utilities have marked and it is wrong, they are responsible for it. The city doesn't have their maps or knowledge of where the lines were put in until they send their company to locate it, and visa versa, they don't have our maps.

Visa Versa?

It was'nt marked properly and many construction groups also take the time to use the proper tools to sense below ground.

You dont have to be the Utility locating service to wave the locators around . You may not know exactly WHAT it is but you find out before cutting.

In the agenda for the upcoming city council meeting is the new city engineer being appointed as deputy building/zoning inspector? He should have a full time position as city engineer. Also why is there communication requesting special use of a building for a detached garage?
What is the garage to be used for? Does Peru representation understand zoning and why it exists? Most who are seeking variances should have considered what they wanted in a property before they bought it, not after. Most cases the person wanting the variance wins and all others around him lose.

Sunday morning and still no phone service as a result of the disaster on 7th and Walnut Street, going on 3 days.
And of course with the great communication with ATT, we have no clue what is wrong. Did something happen to our phones at the exact time that the repairs started?

The agenda for tomorrow's city council meeting doesn't have much on it. Look out, the council will be voting to have meetings once a month now!

I live west of Peoria St. and also have yet to get my phone service back since Thursday. I wonder if AT&T will use this as an excuse to NOT reconnect POTS, and push for their internet phone service, since they want to discontinue copper landlines by 2020 anyway?

The city engineer being appointed deputy building/zoning inspector? Didn't Harl appoint that position to the appointed full-time fire chief with a salary 84k? Will this persons salary be lower? I'm not understanding something here. Referring to 10:16 blog.

Anon 6:42 Blog of 10:16 is obtained from city council meeting agenda for 6/2/14.

A number of months ago the subject of Motor Fuel Tax was presented on the blog. At that time it was determined that Chamlin Consulting Engineers was responsible for doing the figures. How much does the city pay Chamlin for this. Is this task so complicated that the city has to hire a engineering firm to perform it. If there is not any available time in city hall to do the Motor Fuel Task why doesn't the city hire a student from IVCC who resides in Peru to do it?

Chaos runs rampant throught the Chain of Command in Peru. Mayor Harl and the incompetent Public Worst Committee of Waldorf and Lukosus are assigning phony duties and job descriptions around like penny candy with no regard for the qualifications or the ability of the person given the title to do the job. It's all political maneuvering with no regard for what's best for the city. There have been so many phony job titles handed out to so many city officials I can't remember who is in charge of which department on any given day. Wouldn't it be best if Harl were to resign and hand over the Keys to the City and the Check Book to Chamlin & Associates and TEST, Inc. on his way out the door?
Wait, they already have the keys and check book. OK, give them a flashy new title. How about the Co-Superintendants of the Graft and Pocket Padding Department?

Why is there a Committee as a Whole meeting on Wednesday this week?
