During the election, I think somebody said "they are bluffing."

The News Tribune is blaming the Illinois Municipal Electric Association for the 42% differential between industrial electric rates in Peru as compared to the Ameren system. That's a crock - Peru hired a consultant that said we where "leaving money on the table" when it came to the industrial electric rates and the peak power rates. Peru increased the rate and changed the deal with them - Not the IMEA. Why doesn't the paper re-run that article, they where patting Boss Harl on the back for increasing the industrial rate and keeping the residential rate below the market price.

Sure glad I voted no for referendum[mistake]..what the heck alderman Waldorf I thought you said everything was going great. What a joke

The fourth of July is coming up, and it is on a Friday this time. Is somebody going to remember to call the rail road so the train dose not drive through the middle of the event at 40 mph?
Are we still going to have the city sponsored drunk fest?
How about doing something new and innovative? Why not take all the cash we are going to BURN on Water Street, and join forces with LaSalle and have a REAL event at their new Park? Get an orchestra to play patriotic music and have a show that lasts much longer than the Peru Drunk Fest Fireworks.
I love to drink. But, the Peru Drunk Fest Fireworks are actually dangerous and I won't go down there on the 4th because I think it is only a matter of time before some guy gets run over by a train or a major fight starts.
Nope, Water Street is not he place for this event. Peru does not have a place that is suitable. We should DEMAND that Peru and LaSalle join forces and have the event in a place that can handle it.

Toot your horn I'm from Peru...we are losing another business

Looks like the auto body shop building at 5th and Prospect has the property up for sale. I don't know if they left town or moved elsewhere in the city.

everyone needs to read the open forum in the NT:
Letters to the editor: L-P does unforgivable by denying girl prom, graduation.

The gist of the letter is that a girl with sever medical problems was suspended for having Motrin and an inhaler in her purse instead of registering it with the school nurse.

We pay school administrators six figure salaries and all they can do is blindly follow zero tolerance policies? I don't know about you, but I think that people in the real world that demand six figure salaries are required to think and apply reasoning to the decisions they make.

Adventure drive business upset with road and lost business, factories all upset with Peru. GREAT JOB! GREAT LEADERS! Don't follow too close or you will go over the cliff with them.

Anonymous said...

Will be interesting to see if the Unytite story makes the front page of the Daily Disappointment today or if it will be buried inside somewhere.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Peru is headed for higher tax rates in order to keep things going.

Anonymous said...

They are starting to resurface Shooting Park Rd. and YOU-KNOW-WHO is doing it. So that means they will have to do it again in four years. Good dollars for sloppy work.

Anonymous said...

Did'nt you know, this is the administration of CAN'T!!
Can't get along!
Can't be honest! (includung appointees)
Can't keep a factory!
Can't keep track of a utility truck!
Can't appoint qualified individuals (building inspector)!
Can't have open public meetings (closed sessions)!
Can't enforce a EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (payroll scandel)!
We should request to the state of Illinois that we change our name from PERU to CANT, Il.

Anonymous said...

Just for the record: Can anyone answer honestly = where are the vehicles that the city gave to J. Potthoff and G. Bleck?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said
As far as I remember, Sean Mikos got the Public Works vehicle, after that I don't know , the Electric Dept. has Potthoff's at their garage.

Anonymous said...

Sean vehicle is at city hall. I assume engineer can drive it when he is out at jobs

Anonymous said...

Good job to public works. It looks like tons of work is getting done all over town. Very impressed.

Anonymous said...

We don't have a "City Hall." We have a Kremlin.

Anonymous said...

Yes unityte moved it's expansion to la Salle to save 42% on their electric costs.......even the tribune printed that......I the shame.

Lets ALL GET ON THE BAND WAGON AND PRAISE THE WONDERFULL JOB OUR Mayor Harl is doing making sure more and more of our businesses and or jobs are moved out of peru.

All of you that voted for mayor Harl on both occasions, ARENT YOU REALLY PROUD OF YOUR VOTE.

Mayor Baker is still around and kicking, remember what jobs and businesses he brought to peru????

Anonymous said...

Word has it some big positive news in Peru within next 30 days

Anonymous said...

7:22 Kicking or kicking back? This is Peru we are talking about.

Anonymous said...

I have not seen the vehicle that Mr. Bleck or Mr. Mikos used for quite some time.

Anonymous said...

I think that vehicle sits in the city hall parking lot.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone noticed that there is a trend taking place in the city of Peru? The trend is a complete separation of city government and citizen representation.
Sadly this separation is being caused by the citizen believing that the city government is doing what it wants rather than adding the citizen into its decisions. What is your opinion?

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Bernabie or King can tell you where the Public Works vehicle is

Anonymous said...

When are we going to purchase the new engineers truck? Isn't that part of the compensation program for Peru, every employee getting a new truck? After all, the other trucks are used. That is just gross siting in a vehicle that was used by somebody else :)

Anonymous said...

Since Boss Harl took office, Peru City Government has decided what citizens think is not important.

Anonymous said...

12:521 my opinion is that when I speak to anyone at the city they are respectful and responsive. I've asked questions over the years but the last place I will ask is on a blog where rumors run rampant. I disagree with your trend. We need a mayor who knows how to lead but I feel represented well.

Anonymous said...

The problem with some of you is you come to the blog to get answers. Wrong place. If you want an answer because you feel entitled to know where the public works vehicle is why don't you call one of them and ask?

It has been known for a length of time now that this company was branching out. Could someone explain what losses occur to Peru because of this action?
As for a company to move 2 miles for a cheaper (42%) rate no one can blame them. As for Peru not meeting the lesser rate I cannot blame them either. Is this a one shot special from Ameron or is a across the board of 42% for how long to all Peru companies to move to LaSalle? Remember how LaSalle ate up Utica a big bite at a time.

When did Flint Hills have its spill? Was it just two weeks ago? A friend was saying that when that happened the fire department was called to the scene. . And that there was a possibility of the water system becoming contaminated. . Test got involved. And then several days later after the spill the EPA got a phone call(don't know by who) A friend was saying that the EPA was NOT notified promptly or by the proper authorities of this incident. (I'm blogging this from me remembering what I hear). Who in the city of Peru is responsible for notifying the EPA when incidents happen? What is the SOP? Standard Operating Procedure? Should this have its own blog title? There was an article in the paper about this spill and I remember the article was printed several days after the spill happened. Was something being swept under the rug? Was someone not doing there job??

Anonymous said...

2:02 Good one lol. I wonder if all the frogs out there have mercury poisoning ? I hear it makes them look all weird. Maybe they will name a new species after Peru.

Anonymous said...

There is nothing amiss in people asking questions on this blog. There are not always answers given, but it is a form of technology to inform others who participate on her to know what's happening. To just ask questions to a single person isn't putting issue out on the table. SORRY, THIS ISNT A CLOSED SESSION BLOG! Like all the closed session council meetings.

Anonymous said...

3:23 The primary responsible party is the industry when they have a reportable qty spill that can release into a navigable waterway. I did not think that it actually breached contain. If you have any questions, you can contact the IEPA and do an foia on the incident.

Anonymous said...

The IEPA was called immediately and had people on the scene the same day. The spill was limited and was taken care of by their own (on sight) waste water treatment facility. The reactor was shut down pending the IEPA investigation. Naturally, our newspaper will not provide any closure and we will not know when they came back on line and who / what caused the accident.

Tell me this. Why did Peru contract with a big time Chicago demolition company to tear down that motel?

Anonymous said...

Lowest bid! Shame on them for doing things the correct way Wow!

Anonymous said...

What is the reason that the city council meeting of 5-5-14 has not been shown yet. Once again has something happened that we are not supposed to know about?

Anonymous said...

"CONNECTIONS"

Anonymous said...

Walking up Peoria st today, I saw on the township door an agenda for another special meeting with closed session on it along with special counsel to advise the board.

What do you think is going on there, do you think finally someone has challenged using general assistance to pay salaries?

Anonymous said...

7:10
Maybe you have some new members that don't believe in keeping anything for themselves. Maybe Finally some honest Township People. I hope so.

Anonymous said...

Is the FBI stIll investigating peru?

Anonymous said...

Heard the NT is covering another story about township...

Anonymous said...

I just wish you guy's that said harl would be so much better than baker, finally admit you were wrong. In the 40 some years that baker ran the city, it prospered, never had an fbi investigation. It only took harl 5years to loose the pool and chase away or anger some major businesses and make peru the joke of the Illinois valley not the leader.

Anonymous said...

11:13 if Baker was in in charge, no ome would ever call for an investigation. That does not mean many investigations should not have occurred.

I domt think the businesses would have been driven out, agree with you there, but very other thing would have happened, except maybe the concerts.

There was zero doubt the town needed a change. Harl just wanted to be a rock star more than a reformer.

Anonymous said...

11;13 THE FBI SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE WHEN BAKER WAS IN THE OFFICE!JUDY ALSO SHOULD HAVE BEEN QUESTIONED ON HOW THE BOOKS WERE KEPT. JUST A THOUGHT.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:13 Mayor Baker and City Clerk Judy most likely appreciate that you acknowledged them on how the books were kept during their time in office. I don't remember them having a retired judge investigation and than a FBI investigation. But than again I don't remember them having a ghost payroll scandal.
Maybe the difference is Judy keep the books (the purchased computer) and the next administration cooked the books. Neither act is right.

Anonymous said...

One thing you can count on with Illinois Democrats - that is cooking the books. The Illinois Democrats also tend to go on long vacations paid for by the Federal Prison System.
Did you ever notice how many Illinois Democrat politicians get arrested for corruption? Its crazy, it is like the party only accepts criminals to run for office. Oh... and remember that last guy that won the primary for Lt. Gov.? The one that convinced them that the Lt. Gov. needs to run with the Gov. candidate.

Yup - a vote for an Illinois Democrat is a vote for criminal.

Anonymous said...

10:49
i suppose you forgot that george ryan was a REPUBLICAN!

Anonymous said...

one out of how many? Here are the Democrats just off the top of my head:

State Representative Derrick Smith (D)
Alderman of Chicago, Sandi Jackson (D)
Comptroller and Treasurer for Dixon Rita Crundwell (D)

Otto Kerner, Governor (D)
Rod Blagojevich, Governor (D)
Dan Walker, Governor (D)

Daniel Rostenkowski, Congressman and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee (D)

Jesse Jackson Jr., Congressman (D)

Keith Farnham, Illinois Representative (D) - on his way

there are hundreds more..... all Democrats.

Anonymous said...

Don’t forget these two classic Illinois Democrats:
Illinois Democrat Secretary of State Paul Powell - Roughly $800,000 was found stuffed in shoe boxes in Powell's home after he died in 1970. Illinois Democrat U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds - Convicted of misconduct with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer and resigned in 1995. Served more than two years in prison. Later convicted on federal wire and bank fraud charges and sentenced to more than six years in prison. Lately he has had some trouble in Zimbabwe regarding some videos he was taking.

Anonymous said...

i am well aware of all the corrupt democrats and am not defending them. are you smart enough to realize that most people vote for the person and not the party? enough of the ridiculous rhetoric!

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:29 Surprising how many hard line party faithful that are out there. If you don't believe me why is there areas that always vote the same party lines. LaSalle County, Cook County and the State of Illinois are Democratic strangleholds. They are also last in everything else .

Anonymous said...

Most of the people that vote Democrat do so because their parents told them FDR got us out of the depression. The only research they do is looking for the big "D" after the candidates name. That is how criminals get nominated for Lt. Gov. in Illinois.
Don't tell me most people research the candidate. They don't. They vote for the people they are told to vote for.

Anonymous said...

As long as Chicago is part of Illinois, any Illinois town south of there won't have a chance to change anything. We should have a North Illinois and a South Illinois!!

Anonymous said...

5:51 - that will never happen. What we can do is support opposition candidates in that region. We can't vote, but we can send them money - and elections are won with advertising and advertising costs money.
