Peru Action Committee calls for PAC members and Jack attacks

The formation of the Peru Action committee has drawn attention from new members as well as more incoherent jibberish from our old pal Jack O'Beirne. In another bizarre performance in the city council chamber last Wednesday Jack went off on N-T reporter Jeff Dankert and the PAC about the recent N-T article explaining our goals and intentions to support the most qualified candidates in upcoming local elections. Apparently O'Beirne feels "Those People" as he referred to us, have no right to participate or interfere with the way he likes "His" city to operate. The fact that Jack actually believes that citizens have no right to form a group to support quality representation tells you how completely out of touch this guy is from what representative government is intended to be. "Back-Pedalin' Jack's" tenure as an alderman in Peru has certainly never been scrutinized or graded for ability, knowledge or performance. I can understand why the last thing O'Beirne wants to see is someone actually paying close attention to his behavior as an alderman. Jack is a relic from a time of "Good ol' Boy politics whose only real passion in office has been to sponsor and enrich a specific city employee or two and to protect TEST, Inc. from ever having to compete competitively for the very lucrative Water/Wastewater contract with the city. I am convinced that Jack has no clue that he is actually accountable to the people of Peru. I really believe he thinks of himself as being "above" the rest of us. But, his tirades in open meeting are entertaining and I thank him for that. Jack O'Beirne is the poster boy for why we need qualified and dedicated public servants in Peru. That is exactly why the Peru Action Committee has formed. Our goal is to support the candidates who best support us, the citizens of Peru. We have been observing our elected officials for several years as they conduct our business and it has not been encouraging to watch. We encouragage the people of Peru to get actively involved and understand how their elected officials are representing them. We will do this by attending public meetings and getting the facts first hand. We will inform the public in detail what is happening in our city and why it is happening. And, we will have some fun and fellowship while we do it! We will not be welcome by many of the elected officials in Peru as has always been the case. We will not be deterred. When a group of citizens come together to improve their city and they are chastised and criticized by those who only serve at our convenience.......You know you have work to do. So contact Lois or myself for info and stay tuned to this blog for more details. Better yet, come to a council meeting and introduce yourself. You will be welcome when you choose to Run with the PAC.

Thank you Steve. I've been waiting for this post. Mr. O'Beirne seems to display action that makes one think he believes himself smarter and above everyone else. And, he is not afraid to display these feelings openly and publicly.

The council needs to start respecting the will of the people.

Steve this article is FULL of HOT AIR. You received FREE advertising recently in the New Trib because they also are supporters of Mayor Harl. The comments here are just a bias to only your way of thinking and Nobody in there right mind will follow you are sign up to have your bias put in the citizens of Peru mouths or voting records.
If any one wishes to waste their vote, they may support PAC, but I DOUBT IT.

Have the city minutes been posted in regards to this conversation? Was it tape recorded by chance? I didn't have the opportunity to hear the story, but I heard it was rather comical. I, for one, would like to see what PAC brings to the table. Another watchful eye never hurts. Keeps everybody on the up and up. Keep up the good work. I enjoy good information for a change.

Steve, excellent post, past and present. I think what you say is truthful and to the point! The formation of PAC is the right step towards accountability and a prosperous government, no matter who is in office. Independant political groups be it local, state, or federal are an excellant way for people to join together to make sure the PEOPLES representatives are working for them!! Unfortunately in the Baker adminastration there was no such group. Alderman are now lashing out at the people who do not support them and it really shows their true colors, starting with Jacko!! Seems to me that when one lashes out, as some alderman do, they feel threatened or have something to hide! It is a damn shame and embarassing to the people of Peru some of OUR reps. act like that in public!!!

9:21PM

Can you give me a little more information as I was unaware this has been approved. Thank you bringing it as last year we talked so much about it that very few of the aldermen went. Must be time to get on our soapbox again. I will check minutes and make some calls.

I just checked the minutes for June 30 and the information is there. That was a meeting I was unable to attend and no one had mentioned it.
"Aldermen Mikyska Finance Committee Chairman, made a motion to approve expenses for officials attending the annual Illinois Municipal League Convention in Chicago, September 23-25, 2010. Alderman Ankiewicz seconded the motion. City Clerk Dave Bartley called the roll with Aldermen Mertel, O"Beirne, Waldorf, Ferrari, Mikyska, Ankiewicz and Wren voting Aye: Ald. Potthoff absent.

thank you 9:21 PM for being so observant.

Many questions to be answered re: the convention.

If interested in cost check out this site.
https://ssl.iml.org/annual_conference.cfm

If by chance 8 individuals go for one day, it looks like it would be $920 and for 2 days $2000.

5:47 p.m. - I'm glad you find our logo amusing and thank you for drawing attention to what a wolf-pack represents. Although your interpretation may differ from mine, thank you for giving me an opportunity to explain.
A wolf-pack is a structured collective of individuals working together for the good of all. They will never tolerate a threat, and will always support and nurture each other. They are ruthless predators in pursuit of their prey, yet compassionate and loving toward each other. The wolf and wolf-pack ideal is the most honorable collaboration of individuals ever witnessed in the natural world.
We consider all citizens of Peru "honorary" PAC members.
Thank you for bringing it up.

Wolf-packs are predators with friends only of there same being. They feast on ALL OTHERS.

We don't need them in Peru.

Anonymous 9:22 gets it! They feel us nipping at their heels as they flee. They cannot escape.

Steve - according to your interpretation of what a wolf PAC stands for and represents anyone should be honored to be a member.

REGARDING THE IML CONVENTION

The prices I gave in an earlier post were only for the convention fees and that is for the lunch and various other meetings etc. The cost of other food and lodgings are extra and since they approved expenses at the June 30 council meeting, it seems it will be for the cost of the convention plus food and lodging. Anybody know what the cost is for one night in a downtown Chicago hotel these days?
Do they feel entitled or what?
