Why would anybody vote for someone that has a blatant disreguard for ordinances? If you have a ordinance and the candidate makes the choice to not follow the ordinance, it shows the character of the individual seeking office. Large signs, too many signs, putting them up for long periods of time. Be careful this same type of candidate will place their own agenda over the cause of our laws.

Or if they place a sign over the entrance sign of a local business? Or block the sight of a intersection? Must be their constitutional rights to do this?

Anon 9:07 I personally have witnessed a ordinance voted upon and passed which was discussed by the entire body and one of the alderman stated that he personally would be breaking this law every year before the vote was taken, council members said they would not enforce the law as they were having it written up, ordinance passed and alderman has a motor home - camper in his drive with visitors longer than lawful period and no action has ever been taken. When Peru had a code enforcement officer I asked him how people could have a huge motor home in their driveway for long periods of time and he said that ordinance had been revisited.
Fortunely I do not live with a condition that I can't see beyond my next door neighbors driveway but I feel sorry for those that have to.
Upon a recent election one corner lot had way more than six signs but nothing was ever done about it. Peru is a city in which you do what you want and no one will do anything about it but if you ask or inquire you will be told not to. Simply in Peru you are better off to do it and take a chance of getting caught because nothing is going to be done. Shamefully this is poor advice, but true. Don't forget to use your automobiles turn signals and you are 100%.

Regarding ordinances. On many occasions the question has risen in regards to boats in peoples driveways all year long. Nobody has answered this question. As a matter if fact, a city employee has a boat in his driveway. Un the Baker Lake subdivision. Take a ride and check it out. It's an eye sore. What's the ordinance regarding boats in driveways????? It's disrespectful to neighbors to look out their windows and see a boat. Is their an ordinance to have semis parked in driveways?? Ordinance?

Its sad that any public official would say that they will break the law. And sad if those that are running for office will take that same attitude and justify it.

This ordinance is unconstitutional. The court ruled more than 4 years ago that towns can't legally enforce these ordinances that are deemed unconstitutional because political signs cannot be limited to size or length of time they are in someones private property. This was even challenged in spring valley and the city couldn't do anything about it. That's why signs have Bern up for over 4 years. This is an individuals god given right to have a sign in his yard as long as he wants. There is nothing Harl or pipsqeak Taylor can do about it.

I do not live near a boat as I look out my window, however, I am DAMN SURE GLAD that I live in an area that I can still walk down the street at night or any other time. Some people would Bitch if they won 100,000 instead of a 1,000,000. Grow up !!!!!!!

Not everybody in Peru can feel that secure.

4:37 - you are partially correct. Illinois courts ruled that local governments cannot limit when and for how long political signs (either for a candidate or a cause) are displayed on property. The courts affirmed the right of governments to regulate the size and number of signes displayed on private property. They can also put restrictions in place for reasons of public safety. The court rulings do not apply to commercial signage.
Bottom line - you can have a political sign in your yard, outside of the City right of way, 365 days a year if you so desire - as long as the size stated in the Ciy ordinance is not exceeded.

Anon 6:08 It is great that you have a attitude that you can be satisfied by only seeing the things that are to your good. It would be nice if all of us could carry on in similar fashion but sooner or later in life we have had to face reality. This reality is why laws are made and the public expects that once they are made they will be enforced fairly and equally.

How come the deli has signs up.... that is commercial and its not 45 days before the election yet? Where is overpaid Taylor to remove those signs?

8:25 Because the sign ordinance for political signs is a joke. There shouldn't be a rule for business or residential. It's freedom of speech, plain and simple. I guess if this town can regulate something, they will, rather than leave it up to the people to make up their own minds and make their own decisions. This is the type of useless legislation I would like to see come to an end.

Justin is correct. But this was not a quick decision by the mayor and council and Frank Taylor. It was discussed endlessly with the city atty present. And if in fact this is illegal, what does this say about our legal advice?

Surprised to read that the CA gave legal advice! I have spoke to several who asked why his honor sat a mannequin next to him at council meetings. The only answer I have is they take turns waking each other up.

Don't know where to put this on this blog. Who is in charge of enforcing code violations regarding bars exceeding (excessively) occupancy. Meaning if 35 persons in bar and there are 50+ ? Can anyone who is reading this attest that they have personally seen this happen? The reason I'm blogging this is because of all the deaths at bars and clubs die to a stampede of persons getting out. On news last night and it happens and there is no reason for that to have happened if codes would have been enforced. What's Perus ordinance on this code?

The fire marshall enforces occupancy violations and can issue citations.

Anonymous said...

Nobody enforced campaign sign violations because the c.a. told them its unconstitutional. Its illegal to enforce. Peru would lose in court.

Maybe we should sit the dummy from the window at the fire department in Schwilly Schwekert's spot and see if anyone can tell the difference! Lol
what a loser.

Taylor couldn't enforce a no gum chewing policy if they had one
Dumb mistake getting rid of a licensed, educated inspector for a lemon car salesman!!

Sign sergeant was out today at instruction of mayor hurl to chase down non supportive signs of his party...welcome to the USSR

The Fire Marshall must not be giving citation because over occupancy in a few bars is double if not more that allowed. Seen this many times
Over personally. One bar doesn't even serve food. Bar is across from Amicis. Friday nights and Sat. Nights for sure. Saw a picture of inside of this bar on facebook, people were
Shoulder to shoulder and in the doorways to exits. Exit sign in picture also. Wonder where Fire Marshall is? Wonder if he goes in this establishment.? Again, Taxpayers in peru pay for a fire Marshall position, what do we get? Is fire Marshall a appointed position by Mayor Harl?

Wonder how many citations have been written up since Harls term in office? It's understable that if a establishment has a occupancy of 30 and there is 35 people than it's wrong and might not get attention. But. If there is 35-65+ persons that's is cause to be concerned, somebody must not be doing their job. Wonder if the state fire Marshall gets copies of citations for businesses. Over the past week on tv, internet and in Chicago tribune and USA today many articles regarding overcrowing in establishments that have had fatalities. Accident waiting to happen if not enforced.

Taylor is gonna get rid of the challengers signs because if Hurl loses, he knows he's gone!!
