Has there been a schedule distributed for sled days at McKinley Park? Snow is on the way so are the hot chocolate and tasty dogs. Hopefully the city will have snow sledding every Saturday and Sunday there is snow on the ground. Expect huge turnout of all ages.

I'm surprised that no comments have been made, so far, re the splash pad. The video was beautiful and the kids are going to have a great time next summer. The fence around the grounds really dresses up the area. I hope they are prepared to maintain the pad so stoppages will be kept to a minimum. Drains will have to be checked constantly and the spray systems are things that are problems waiting to happen. I hope all things go well and the kids will have a great time.

There should be very few stoppages to the splash pad this summer as this is the nature of the animal. Splash pads normally should not need consistent maintenance and minute by minute vigil. Being that the Peru Splash Pad has been financed by Illinois State Grants and private donations there should be no need of admission costs to participants and onlookers.
For those that believe that the splash pad is a addition to the recreational program it is not. It is long over needed form of replacement for the Veterans Swimming Pool which was shut down years ago leaving very little city activity for a specific age group of Peru.
Hopefully the PSM has learned to successfully locate and erect a ice skating rink for the winter months plus the ability to have sledding events with free concessions at McKinley Park on weekends, snow days and Christmas Holidays.
The ASM, PSM and Peru Mayor should realize that this is not a request or a wish but considered a must.

The skating rink should already be up with this frigid weather. Not sure where it stands or where it is or if it even still exists.

Shouldn't the park and rec committee be the one offering concessions and events/activities? Isn't that their role? To me it would seem they are the ones responsible to put on activities.

It is supposed to get into the 40's again. Still too early for the ice skating rink. I really am baffled by the logic, or lack thereof, by some people.

You are absolutely right however, there could also be 40 degree weather in January or February. Should we never put it up and then have different people complain?

Very good question 8:48AM and I am glad you asked it. The difficulty of defining the question may be answered by a ordinance, than again the answer may never have been defined as I learned in volunteering to be on a Little League Board. Yes the role of the park and rec committee may be the ones to offer concessions and events/activities. Personally I would believe that the committee deserves suggestions from interested parties plus their own ideas and than utilize the funding granted to them and the city public works personnel for such.
12:44 PM You may think it is to early for a ice skating rink but do you find any harm in being prepared and having all foundation up and ready for water when it freezes. Truthfully this is a very simple issue if properly assigned to the Peru city employees. They will have it up and fully functional within ample time for all to enjoy. Thanks Fellows and may I wish you and your families a Safe, Blessed and Merry Christmas. I once again want to thank all of you for making our life's in Peru much easier thru out the entire year.

Your comment pertaining to the lack of common sense with regards to the setting up of the ice rink did not go unnoticed. I think you should be informed that apparently Echo Bluff did not use common sense and their rink is open for skating as of today, is Peru's? Wouldn't it make more common sense to put up things such as xmas decorations, skating rinks, etc. when the weather is agreeable or would you rather wait until it's below freezing and then try to fill up a large area with water? Where's the common sense there?
