Surprise Surprise An Expected Contribution

Most of you have probably seen this picture of what is the Scott Harl campaign contributions as required by law to be sent to the state of Illinois.

Significance is this is typical Pay to Play.  The month before that the McAnarney contract was not sent to the Peru City Council for approval or disapproval but was instead listed in disbursements as a monthly expenditure in the Administrative section. Sadly to see it looks like it was at the same time that our Lobbyist gave a $300.00 donation to the Scott Harl political campaign fund.

I never expected this from Scott Harl when he ran for Mayor of Peru and again I was one of many who supported him and now feels so much regret. Political gain has taken over what we thought was a sincere desire for this city to progress and improve. Crickets at City Hall because of politics.

Back in 2012 Appointee Jeff King donated $600 TO hARLS CAMPAIGN FUND. look it up folks. Hummmmmmm, when was he appointed his high payinGS positions? HEARD WHEN HE WAS CODE ENFORCER HE WOULD BRING A CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN WITH HIM TO INSPECT. wAS HE QUALIFIED FOR THIS POSITION AND OTHER POSITIONS?

The lobbyist played in the Mayor's golf outing. The $300 contribution is the cost for himself and two others to play golf. Please give us a different conspiracy.

Why is the mayor still sponsoring his golf outing and collecting money for his war chest if he still has 3 more years in office and has informed us 2 terms (oops I mean 3 terms) is his limit? Who will he pass the baton (his war chest) to?

Political contributions are not new and are legal. At least he has reported the contributions, others have yet to report any? I did see a few different fundraises around town in the last election and those funds were never reported?

To the anti-King blogger, Most places require both a plumbing inspector and electrical inspector to review codes.

The yearly review of each and every administrative non elected position should be submitted to a independent out of town firm preferably at least 250 miles away or more. This distance is minimal in comparison to travelling to China for no more than a bow and possibly a dog biscuit. Also with the use of computers and the personal cell phone distance is no longer a hindrance.

I am not positive whether a electrical and a plumbing inspector are a necessity in Peru. I do that they are if Peru does not have a building inspector which Peru is paying King and another person for the same occupation. I do know that a qualified building inspector would be able to inspect the annual building of the average 2 homes build in Peru since the recession which started 10years ago. I question why Peru doesn't contact a qualified inspector for each need in the same fashion banks contact a appraiser. The inspector should be hired on a rotating basis. Why is the city paying King for a job that when you go to the suburbs the home owner pays for this service.

In question of additional expense chop Kings and Bernie's pay in half hire 4 qualified people to replace them at $70,000/year. Presently King and Bernie are no more than Harls' puppets to say and do what he doesn't want to personally do himself. Harl has become the role model for all politicians who believe their only duty is to kiss babies and shake hands and be reelected.

Do a little research on what requires a building permit and inspections. I did some work this year and had to pay for permits and inspections. I personally know some people who work for a municipality and plumbing inspections by law are required to be done my a state licensed plumber. It's a huge liability for a city to sign off on inspections. And if I had to have three inspections for a garage I can't imagine how many inspections are done in Peru each year. Gather some information before you state these things.

8:38 You know what is accurate and thank you for your response. Yes, inspections are required and that benefits everyone.

12:25 Out of town reviews? Hire someone who has no involvement with the daily work of those individuals to review their work? That statement may go down as one of the many foolish ideas you have had. And that's quite a feat. Chop salaries in half? Your accounting class may have been cancelled. According to the city yearly disbursements that are on line, the salaries are no where near the $150,000 that you claim. And yes, home inspections are paid for by the home owner. The cities have to hire those home inspectors to make sure you get complete and accurate inspections. I guess you would prefer to have your uncle, neighbor or friend do your inspection? Would that be in the best interest of your family? Think before you write down these thoughts.
I get quite a kick out of these people that put these stories out without any bit of fact.

Great job of thinking outside of the box but lousy job of answering 12:25. Sadly you both have not answered 12:25 but have thrilled yourselves with lies and falsifications. Take some of your own advice and do a lot of research.

The weekend edition of the Ottawa Times published the results of its question "Do you agree with local officials taking tax supported trips to China to seek business opportunities? Results were: 19% . YES, 81% NO

The next question will be: Do you think in certain situations government bodies can make decisions outside of public meetings? .YES, .NO

Good question because Peru is guilty of this practice before every city council meeting even though there is a law against it.

12:06: whatever you say, but king and bernabei are very grossly overpaid and SOMEONE needs to look into their pay!

Why have you attempted to answer 12:25's comment with incorrect, made up and insulting information. If King who would have a problem identifying a true 2x4 and completely in the dark as a home inspector capable of a inspection that benefits everyone? 12:25 I also get quite a kick out of people that put stories out without any bit of fact when no harm can become of it.
In Peru are part of the qualifications and certifications to be building inspector a generous contribution to the mayor's campaign fund?

According to the news tribune Mayor Harl gave to the city council a brief synopsis of his China trip at the end of Monday night's meeting. He also stated that a more detailed report is being worked on. I hope, when this report is finished and ready to be released, that it will be done at a regular council meeting. I also hope it will be listed on the agenda so interested citizens can attend and hear what resulted from this trip. Recently it seems as though many things are being discussed and decisions made at city meetings that are not on the agendas. I makes it seem as though our aldermen do not want citizens attending their meetings and interfering with city business. Just my opinion.

What is all the talk about Peru Elected. Go to THE County Board and find out about dysfunction and transparency. You got 2 out of 3 members of the County Board the reside in Peru and voted a 6% increase for all county employees? My taxes are higher for LaSalle County than they are for Peru. And they said they didn't know why the increase was 6%? Has insanity taken over? And what services does LaSALLE County give you in Peru? A cold meal if you go to jail? Butkus, Peru Rep. voted no. Thanks. Bernal voted yes. And Joe Jr voted yes. I assume that your job is to get elected not to be fiscally responsible. That there is a example of sawdust between your ears.

I agree 4:30
Thanks for watching out for Peru Mr. Butkus, All Jill Bernal wants is the vote for when she runs against Long. She never looked out for Peru when a vote came up. She should have moved out years ago. Not getting this families vote. And Joe Jr should be worried the next time he is up for reelection.

To many Taxes

Did you expect anything different? The best quote coming from them is that they didn't know where the 6% came from, and didn't ask any questions. And they still voted yes! To those who collect bobble heads you have two more to add to your collection.

wonder who joe jr learned from?

What % 0f the population of Peru pay attention to the actions of the political candidates beyond voting for them if they do this much? Have you ever noticed the low percent that actually votes in Peru? I believe that areas that receive a low amount of services also are areas that have a low amount of political interest and participation. The LaSalle County Board vote of a 6% raise is a unheard of raise and prove that our representatives who voted yes are unworthy stuarts' of our tax dollar. Remember this for the next election.

the 6% raise didnt really concern me but how they vote on property taxes will next month.

Jill has never voted for anything to benefit Peru. Most of us are still waiting for her to make good on that threat to sue the city over pickleball!

As someone once commented do you even know the details and facts surrounding the 6% raise increase for county workers? I talked to Jill Bernal and got the facts and now understand why she voted the way she did. Did you bother to question her as to why she voted the way she did? You're free to vote for whoever you want but to say she has done nothing for Peru is an unjust statement. She has dedicated many, many hours traveling back and forth to Ottawa, Springfield, Joliet, Morris, etc. representing Peru and she has done so with dignity, grace, and unselfishly. Citizens like Jill get involved to hopefully make a difference and in so doing have to put up with citizens like you who criticize without knowing facts.

9:49.....just give us one example of a vote for Peru by Bernal. And we are waiting for her comment on why we need a 6% raise for county workers. I will tell you why.....they will go out to work on her campaign.

The County Board is the political machine that will sacrifice taxpayers for the benefit of power. She was voted to represent Peru and has chosen many times to represent her political future. Check on how many no votes she has and let us know how Peru is represented.
