Read Between the Lines on This Discussion

Just a few weeks ago a comment by me, that at one time Peru wanted very much to have a City Engineer to be the Public Works Director which would eliminate any differences between having both a City Engineer and Public Works Director working on some of the same projects in this small city as seems to show up in this news article. Maybe there is too big of an overlap in some areas of the job description. And along the same lines, I see that someone from Chamlin engineering still attends city council meetings and sits at the table with other Department Heads. Now that Peoria Street resurfacing is finished and the sewer project is completed. Does Public Works need more people for city maintenance and fewer being paid at the top?  Asking this not as a blog writer but simply as a resident of this city

I agree with you totally Lois. When I read that article and our PSM suggested that maybe we hire out another small job my first thoughts were, maybe we have too many chiefs and not enough indians. We outsource many of our summer tasks now and still hire at least 30 young summer helpers and a handful of adult leaders and still can't seen to keep up with routine maintenance.

What are the job descriptions of the adult leaders and when are the jobs advertised for one to apply? As for summer helpers forget it! Why was the number increased when the swimming pool was shut down? Summer helpers are no more than politically connected individuals with no requirements or qualifications very similar to the ASM and/or PSM positions.

Many of the summer workers and high school and college students. What is wrong with that?

Public works employees do not work on the road construction projects so what does Peoria street being done have to do with this?

For years and years, residents of Peru have known that those jobs always go to the well connected also known as the politically connected kids. This last year was no different except that in recent years they have been given less and less supervision. Also in the middle of the summer we have a church sponsored group that goes into all local cities and cleans and paints and frankly does the job the hired summer help should be doing and and not getting paid while the summer help working or not gets paid and because of their connections it is wise not to make a complaint about it. That happened a few years ago and the "kid" was upset as well as the politically connected father and caused early fireworks in Peru.

7:20 PM has done a very good job of giving you the facts! What are you expecting someone to pick you and set you on their knee and read you nursery rhymes?
