According to this article Peru will possibly be putting their rink up next week at McKinley Park. Wasn't it located at Veteran's Park last year? I remember there being wood pallets piled high there and a concrete tubular tile that was used as a fire pit. The lights are also already there and set for the dog park so why would Peru move it to a smaller location?

On another note I've been told that there's a big sign in the newly established parking lot on 4th street in Peru that says "FREE PARKING". Isn't all parking in Peru free?

It's too bad Peru didn't get their rink put up in time for the ideal skating weather and the kids being out of school for xmas break.

Kids don't vote......kids don't count.

It would be unlikely kids will brave windchill temps of -20 to play outside. I am sure Peru's rink will be open soon enough. Such comments about nothing. I guess the next comment will be...why does Peru plow the snow? Wouldn't the hills make great places to sled ride?

Using the same train of thought you used 12:39, with windchill temps of -20 do you really think the city will be able and willing to set up the rink and fill it?

Yes sledding down the hills is one of the greatest winter memories I have of living in Peru. I know it is no longer possible but every winter after the first big snowfall, Pulaski Street was blocked off from Shooting Park Road to 14th street. It was fantastic and every kid from all over the east end of Peru was there, so much fun.

Coming back to the present, this is normally the coldest time of the year and it will most likely persist thru much of January, so forget the ice rink for the year as it will likely be a waste of time to set up. By February we are all looking forward to Spring and temperature are on the rise. Maybe more snow and the kids can be satisfied with the parks where sledding is allowed.

Lois, just think of all the adults from the east end who have reminisced about sledding down Pulaski Street as kids and love the memories of Mom and Dad watching them. Personally I have never forgotten my Father taking me skating on the snow packed side streets for hours in weather every bit as cold as it is out now. Our skates sparking as we hit coal clinkers in the snow and I tried to stay even with my Dad's royal blue trimmed in gold Peru Rescue Station jacket. A jacket which I still possess.
Eventually the City of Peru erected a ice rink across the street from and in front of Washington School and LaSalle located their rink in Hegler Park. These two ice rinks drew huge crowds 65+ years ago.
Previously to the above mentioned modern times those from the Gensofurtol {sp} gathered and did their skating at the Peru Slue. From much dated and historical tales this group knew of no limitations when it came to skating nor a hefty glass of Star Union!

I've been informed that the promise that Peru's PSM made to open the ice rink this week has failed to become a reality. I do realize the weather was not conducive of putting it up however, a promise is a promise. The sad thing is that if it is in the plans for next week the weather is supposed to warm up and the kids will be back in school. The ice will not freeze and the kids will not have the free time they've had the last 2 weeks. I just don't understand how surrounding towns can put up multiple xmas displays and programs, ice rinks, etc. and Peru cannot.

Peru present government is a body which is not concerned about serving the people whom it represents with those needs upon which it was created for. Today it is all about the sales tax and how this tool can be utilized to pay "Super Bowl" wages and "China Excursions" to the inefficient and greedy.

How much of the preparation of putting up the Peru ice skating rink can be done before opening it? Does anyone remember the signs at the entrance of Peru proclaiming it the "Leader of the Valley"? Who was the prophet who had these signs immediately removed at the start of the Harl regime?
What is the scheduled opening date for the Peru water park and since it had to be one which has all the sugar and spice included which only mattered to the adults will it have free admittance for the children as most other public funded water parks or will there be a unneeded price of admission?

As January 22, 2018 draws closer has Peru decided upon the location where Mayor Harl and Bob Vickrey will explain their outlandish expenses to travel to China? With forecasts of crowds the council room will not be near big enough for all intending to attend? In questioning those who will attend a soft sell public comment will satisfy no one but Harl and Vickrey. A hard question and answer session is what the citizens want and deserve.

The set up of the ice rink, including filling it, can be done completely ahead of time, as Oglesby did. Then, you just wait for the water to freeze, as Oglesby did. Then you announce it's opening and being ready to use, as Oglesby did.

As we await the results of the China trip that took place in November the next trip for our mayor and economic developer is in the making. This one is to Las Vegas. No cost as of yet how much the tickets will cost but trip has been approved.

I find the rumor that Vickrey and Harl are travelling by bus unbelievable.
