While we all wondered why the cost for the Mayor of Peru and Economic Director to take a flight to China to attend an economic conference was so costly at 10 thousand plus dollars, it now appears that it was because they chose to fly First Class on your dollar.
The Mayor of Ottawa and his companion made the trip for a bit over 1 thousand dollars and traveled Coach..
Personally not surprised that our mayor would take advantage of our city for his own personal preferences. What is going to be the response of the Peru City Council who voted 7-1 to approve of this trip? So now we wonder when they knew of the cost of the trip for the two and why they would approve such an outrageous expense.

In case anyone is interested apparently there is a regular council meeting this evening at 4:00. The city website also lists a finance meeting at the same time but no agenda is posted for it. Also, the agenda for the council meeting is only listed on the website as "agenda". It does not say city council agenda. It previously was listed as a special meeting just to approve disbursements. It is all very confusing and deceptive. If you want to see what will be discussed at the 4;00 council meeting click on the word agenda in the right hand column on the city website.
the trip is only a waste of money if nothing tangible comes from the trip. To criticize the efforts of Peru is somewhat naïve and uneducated. Plans to improve the local economy and provide future jobs in never a bad idea. Those who continue to be critics must have jobs or are content with their current suffering. Standing still is not what you want to do.

Why did Peru have to pay over $10,000 for the same thing that Ottawa paid only $1000 plus . Ottawa is a thriving city, the county seat of La Salle Cty and Peru is a small city of that same cty. So why would you consider us paying more is ok? And our population is also probably less wealthy.
Did the aldermen know they were flying business class at the time of the vote to approve to trip? One alderman voted no for the trip, but were expenses know/discussed at this time?
The trip to China is the first step in looking for new investment into the area. If all you complainers would just take a minute and see that the city council is not being deceptive, they are trying to improve the long term working conditions for Peru and surrounding area. I am not saying that this is an easy task, however you have to start somewhere.
On the cost the I would think that the Starved rock Alliance picked up most of the cost for the Ottawa Mayor and their Economic Director since they sit on the board.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL. HOPE YOUR HOLIDAYS ARE FILLED WITH JOY AND HAPPINESS.
Does anyone know if the detailed China trip report, which the mayor promised, has been released yet? If so, can you tell us where we can find it?
