Thanksgiving Week in Peru

Since I live close to the Route 251 most of my travels take me through Peru and to the shopping to the north. Seldom go to the downtown area or anywhere very far west of Peoria Street. Anything you have noticed in town that you would like people to be aware of.

We had a very stressful and involved week with the rescue of a small kitten.  Learned  a lot about shelters and what they do and don't do. All is not what it seems locally with that situation.

I will not be bringing up anything this week of Thanksgiving and I know most with be busy with family and friends but the blog will remain open and I will be taking posts as usual.

I've heard that the animal shelter euthanizes cats and a lot of them. True? Is this because there are so many of them and many are sick and carry diseases? I understand this process. From: An animal lover. Happy Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately it is true and not because of the reasons you have given. I have seen the numbers and they make me ill.

I heard, close to 500 cats in a year? Don't know how true that number is. Sad

People need to get their cats fixed. They also need to keep them inside. We should not be letting our pet cats run wild any more.

2:13, you are so correct. Doesn't take too many cats to get hundreds of kittens. Part of the problem also is that vets fees are so expensive that good hard working people can't afford taking their animals to the vet. One vet in the area recently opened new offices, my animal needed a appointment, for an infection. I only had $50, asked the office if I could make payments for balance. Was told not directly to them, but I could fill out a credit application for a credit card to make payments on it for the balance. I explained with my credit not being up to par, I wouldn't be given credit. I had to borrow $90 from a friend to pay a $140 bill. I did fill out the paperwork for credit card and did not qualify like I knew I wouldn't. Anymore, there is no compassion for people who are in situations that are out of their control. I'm definitely not lazy in my work ethic and work 60 plus hours a week. This all being said, people just don't have the financial availability for the excessive fees vets are charging. Just like dentists. People can't even afford a cleaning yearly. Look at these offices that dentists and vets have, and the houses they live in. Makes me sick.

I remember back in the mid 70's Peru had a serious issue with dogs and cats. It got to the point where if you took your garbage out the night before (like we do now), the dogs and cats would rip open the bags and drag all the garbage out looking for food. My mother went through gallons of ammonia. She would dump it in the trash bag before tying it up. It only took a couple of times for the dogs and cats to learn. Anyway, at one point, the cops started carrying 22 rifles in their trunk and would shoot stray dogs and cats whenever they saw them - if they did not have a collar, it was open season. That took care of the problem pretty quickly.

I think we should license pet ownsers not pets. People should be required to proove they can take care of a pet. The first test should be that they have enough money. If they don't they should not be allowed to have a pet.

People from everywhere read this blog. And anyone that says they don't are lying. The attorney general office is reading this blog. Guaranteed! Happy Thanksgiving!

Years ago many medical people did pro bono work. Today the greed has taken over. It's a shame that someone can't make monthly payments for such a small bill. It will only get worse. As far as cats go, we should be allowed to trap them and see if they can swim in the river. They are a nuisance. They crap all over, day and night. They kill birds and whatever they can catch. The millionaire doctors should do more charity work.

I hope all of Peru's corrupt employees and Supers including our plump mayor enjoy one last holiday season before their comfy world collapses! They all should be ashamed of themselves stealing from every citizen of Peru .
I will not feel sorry for any of you one bit when you're unemployed and hopefully living in LaSalle county highrise. Seasons Greetings

What's up with a section on waterstreet being closed well over a week? Someone was saying permit issues? Who is in charge of this?

If true, good luck, I would never discourage new business but don't know whether that is what we need in Peru considering all the other available shops we have that sell that kind of treats.
The new Caseys will sell their share of sweets also.

I would be much happier to have a place selling healthier choices in my diet coming into town. I'm old enough to remember the fruit stand across from the Igloo and would be delighted to have something like that in town once again.

I won't say anymore because this is not a food blog.

Lois, wondering why no mention has been made of the announcement in Ottawa of a marathon. Speaking of huge numbers coming to town with big time bucks being spent over a a number of days.
This is what you call a promotion, not a concert which is leaching off of already existing businesses, with the idea of trying to create a profitable airport.
