Obamacare's Cadillac tax costly for public-sector workers

Obamacare's Cadillac tax costly for public-sector workers

Municipal employees have always had great health care insurance and it looks like there are going to be problems on the horizon.

The Cadillac tax will be levied on health insurance companies, which many expect will pass the tax along to governments. That leaves government officials with a big decision: They can cut employees' health plans so they fall below the Cadillac threshold; pass the tax cost on to workers; or eat the tax themselves and make other budget cuts. Each choice has consequences. "Quite honestly, the decision is almost unmakeable for a local official," says Sonny Brasfield, executive director of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama.

Interesting post. Obamacare is yet another piece of legislation where we a taxpayers are going to be left holding the bag.

That is what Democrats do.

5:41 The fundamental workings of insurance pooling and mandatory insurance is a free market solution to Universal Helth Care. I am not promoting in any way shape or form its shoddy backass implementation, but research your history first. Its origins are in a state governed by a former Republican Candidate for president. It's free market economics at its heart.

No sane Republican would deny a similar plan would have been promulgated by the Republican candidate had he won. I know many on the blog want the poor sick people to get sick and die , so they can make better choices and work harder in the future in the land of complete equality and opportunity.

Leveling out the health care opportunity and education opportunity for every person living in Amarica is not a horrible idea for a government to aspire to do. it's not wealth redistribution to try to make sure everyone has access to the same medicine and quality education.

Hell, we won't need a military much longer once the NRA gets all of us armed up. We are already the most heavily armed private citizenry in the world. we take all the money from there, build the Mexico wall, shore up the beaches and hunker down in a Libertarian paradise.

I just hope bullet wounds don't have a big deductible under Obamacare.

Bitch and moan about democrats , that's what republicans do. That and bring the government to a grinding halt when they don't get their way.

748 you would fit right in with the msnbc news crew. You make fun of all people who don't agree with you! Your democrats friends will bankrupt Illinois! Can the Republicans do better for Illinois? I think that answer is a simple yes.

7:48 Thanks for the compliment. BTW I agree with you on Illinois.

If you consider presenting facts that point out how knee jerk the reactions can be on here by the ultra conservatives to be making fun of them, I can live with that. I happen to be a republican, and like many of us are ashamed by the actions of the ultra conservative members of the party. I have already been name called here as not passing the Linus test as a "true" republican. Next up is not a true American.

Unfortunately, there are too many Sarah Palins and Nancy Pelosi s out there and not enough centrists.
