9:36 AM Justin, we need to learn about to be creative here in Peru and find ways to overcome problems. Since Rte 6 is a problem for using the area for much of anything in the downtown perhaps we need to utilize streets and areas that are not major thoroughfares. We certainly have enough of underutilized parks.
I couldn't agree more, Lois. I spoke to several people who would like to host events down on water street, which is something I highly support as well. For all this time I didn't understand why we as a community only have one event down there.
I'm not a fan of Water Street but can understand it would be great for something requiring a lot of room. Personally would like to see some events move north again somewhere between Shooting Park and Water Street. Sunset Park is large and could it be used when baseball is not being played. McKinley for a small event would be great, nobody uses it. Of course my favorite is Rotary for concerts and lots of small events. Even the huge parking lots in Peru are possibilities. Do we need to get a committee together, get ideas and then of course permission.
1:38. It's easier to close off a commercial area when it is not a major highway. Just look at downtown LaSalle for example. We have seen time and time again where it is closed off from Two Fools to LaSalle State Bank to host events. That's the point I was trying to make, downtown Morris doesn't have a major highway going through it.
Justin what is easiest is not always best for example the anemic 175th Centennial parade and afternoon celebration Peru had. Previously it had been a multi day event with a huge parade going down Fourth Street. Ottawa has a annual Friendship Day Parade with Route 23 shut off. Peru has a Third Steet and a Fifth Street to make each opposite one way streets. It has been done before, and was not considered difficult and if you ask most older people they will tell you Peru was a better town to live in than it is presently. One of the reasons is that years ago people looked for what is best not what is easiest.
3:36 I don't understand what you're trying to get at. The point I am making is we have different barriers that other municipalities don't have. I never said anything was best, but with our government in general becoming bloated things aren't getting easier.

Don't miss the Dulcimer Festival at Gebhard Woods in June. It's a treat.
Unfortunately our downtown is a highway, as there's is not.
