Positions for $84,000 a year. Does this pay include fire chief king when he attends each fire call? Nothing said about that pay that I heard he also received. Or will fire chief king get paid additional pay like each one of the volunteer fireman received for each call they sign in for or go on? Will chief king get two city vehicles to drive? Benefit package valued at? Also noted that alderman Perez abstained from voting on this. This raises eyebrows. Donating to a campaign fund evidently has a great benefit package. And here it is boys/gals.

Cha-Ching! It pays to donate to the cause.

Anonymous said...

Perez abstained because it a conflict of interest.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:13 Because Rod is a fireman and Jeff is a fire chief you state that Rod abstained because it is a conflict of interest.
Would Rod voted as a alderman or a fireman?
This situation places the one alderman who has valued experience of observing Chief Kings leadership and field performance to take the leadership in this situation and cast his vote as he believes.
Yes this creates a dilemma for Alderman Perez. A dilemma which he should have acceped as a alderman. Most will always consider his stance as one of a NO vote.

11:13 he doesn't abstain when it comes to firefighter payroll approval that he receives!

Anonymous said...

@2:35 evidently you haven't read Perez' 5 minute valued observation of this whole shin dig. his explanation is on the following post? @ 2:42 are you serious? Perez should abstain on payroll of the fire department? It sure seems all a few of you can do as critics of Perez is grasp for silly straws. I along with many people value Alderman Perez' decisions. There's no other city official to be trusted other than him.
Can't even compliment you with a- nice try.
Alderman Rodney Perez for Mayor.

Anon 6:49 Ald Perezs lack of a vote is his explanation. @2:35 is correct, Rod dropped the ball on this issue. He was sitting in the council chair and should have acted as such.

Lois, please start new section which would allow interested parties to comment what they believe Washington School could be used for before it is demolished?
Who owns this school? Have any financial figures been disclosed in reference to the school? What would it cost to demolish the facility? What is the present value of the building? Would it with remodel make a community center, or a adult education center? With the future of baby boomers becoming senior citizens would the hospital have a use of Washington School, remember it is close to IVCH has a parking lot ,a gym and stage along with plenty of empty yard space. Does anyone have any ideas. Once demolished it is gone forever.

Anonymous said...

We already have an Adult Education center. It is called IVCC. And millions of dollars of tax money have already been invested in IVCC.
If the Peru Public School District determines that they no longer need the school, then they should dispose of it properly. Not turn it over to the city to sit empty until it becomes a problem. If the school district can't sell it, then they must demolish it using the windfall grant they just got. If they plan on selling it, they should be required to set aside enough money to destroy it if it does not sell. Oh... and just as a reminder, the next shoe will be asbestos abatement. That's is always a good way to bilk a few hundred grand out of the taxpayers. Oh... what about scrap value? Do you think they will try that one again (sell it to some fool for a dollar and whatever scrap he can get). Watch out for the wheeler dealers because that will come in time.

Back to the original topic. Value what decisions 649?

Anonymous said...

is IVCC considered a Senior Adult Education Center with all parking 1/4 miles or better from campus? Peru Washingtons parking is next to the school. Also many senior citizens do not care to drive in the area that is required to reach the college. A combination community-educational center would be great to have in Peru.

Anonymous said...

Why do we need a "senior" education center? An "adult" education center is used to retrain people to get a job. We don't need to retrain "seniors." If you want a "senior center" for entertainment and social events that is a different story. I would object to it, but that use would be understandable.
How would you propose continued funding for the senior entertainment center?

The combination of Fire Chief/Building Inspector is a step toward the future of security and protection for the citizen of Peru.
This step is a initial part of a long range safety program. Eventually the PPD Chief and the FD Chief will serve under a Chief of Security. This position will be created and used to promote the building of a new PPD facility and a new FD facility.

Wow....11:04 will Peru have a NASA space station in addition to the new Security space station.

Maybe a secret service unit building so Harl can utilize it for all his closed session council meetings. How many of those since April 2013? How many from April 2009-April 2013? Unbelievable.

Were gonna be taxed so much, we all will be on welfare. Maybe all the people who make the big bucks will buy all the homes for sale and register them under HUD.

The Fire Chief of Springfield IL is the director of a full time force with 231 members. Additionally, he manages about a dozen fire stations and many millions of dollars worth of equipment. Furthermore, he manages a $34 Million Dollar Budget.
Guess what this person's salary is. It is just under $116,000. Yes, that's right. The difference between the Peru Fire Department and the Springfield Fire Department is like night yet the pay is only $36K less.
Why is Peru constantly over paying our employees?

Anonymous said...

Now that we have full time chief we should be able to cut the cost of the assistant fire chief vehicle and gas, now with chief king here, the assistant chief truck could help pay for other needed things

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:30 Down at city hall sounds like a great idea where are you going to get the money?

Anonymous said...

Scrap all ideas of Peru building space stations, if it don't need a road or a ditch Peru don't need it. Wonder why?

I believe that many of us who never questioned an employee salary before are certainly getting our eyes opened. Recently found out that not all aldermen in other cities receive the nice salaries that ours do. Price per mtg might be the same but meeting twice a month means exactly that $100 per mtg means $200 per month and the mayor getting $500 per month while our aldermen receive twice that pay for the same number of meetings. And more importantly they have a city manager with the education to actually manager a city and to advise the elected officials while we stumble around.

Anonymous said...

Lois, confused us all. Alderman receive twice the pay as Mayor, that's not accurate. How much per year do city alderman and Mayors make in the variuos communities, also townships, county boards. Compare for discussion.

LaSalle, Peru, Spring Valley, Peru Township, LaSalle County Board, Morris, Princeton, Ottawa, and others of comparable size to Peru's population and yearly city budget.

Peru Town Forum said...

I take the slap on the hands, my error, disregard the mayor comment.

A comparison would be a good idea as that would also give us an idea of cities that have different forms of municipal government. My point should have dealt only with our overblown aldermans pay in comparison to cities of similar size who do not pay when they are not at council meetings.

Anyone who cares to make a comparison of apples to apples look in the classified sections of Wednesdays local newspaper and than look at the same in Thursdays.
Wednesdays will have LaSalles and Thursdays will have Perus annual financial report.
Compare revenue, expenditures and number of employees and the difference in employee expenses. These two towns are very similar in size and location. LaSalle has its employees do the water treatment and waste water and Peru has its own electrical plant although this appears to be a negative.

Hmmmmm.... the Ottawa Fire Chief makes $85K also and he runs a full time department with multiple fire stations. Ottawa also has a population almost twice that of Peru.

Anonymous said...

The Ottawa Fire Chief is also responsible for staffing a full time EMT service.

Just read that the new fire chief in Utica has a associate degree in fire science technology and a paramedics certificate from a college. Good job Utica, you seem to know what qualifications one should have for positions in your village. Does our fire chief in peru have either, and, or one of these?

A MUST READ UNTER BLOG TOPIC: FIREFIGHTERS PAY QUESTIONED IN PERU WLPO, BLOGS FROM DECEMBER 2011. COMPARE THOSE BLOGS TO THE MOST RECENT BLOGS AND ITS UNDERSTANDABLE EHY SO MANY PROPLE HAVE QUESTIONED THE REASONING AS TO WHY A FAIR AND HONEST APPLICATION PROCESS WASNT DONE BY THE CITY OF PERU IN COMBINING AND APPOINTING OUT FIRE CHIEF AS SUCH. INTERESTING.

Anonymous said...

Jeff King is a great fire chief. Best thing that could happen to Peru. Personally I think they need to combined Peru ambulance and Peru fire together and have King the Chief of both.

Anonymous said...

Here is a thought. Does he have a paramedic certification? EMT? Does he have any degrees in fire science technology? Associates degree, al least? Bachelors? Masters? Wouldn't these certifications be a requirement. For someone to oversee an ambulance service they themselves should qualify for the job that they are overseeing.

How can a person be a foreman on a
Job site when they have never done that job themselves? As far as building inspector and code enforcer, there probably is a city employees that will be the assistant to Mr. King for that position he accepted that we the taxpayers won't know about. Taxpayers are not stupid. My opinion.

Anonymous said...

Best thing that could and should happen to and for peru, is to clean house. Need to rent a big dumpster though.

Anonymous said...

What duties is a building inspector responsible for? And code enforcer? Does he wear big bad badges? What a collection of badges one must get and have. Doesn't smokey the bear wear a badge? Don't forget a safety officers big bad badge and a big bad fire Marshall's badge, last but not least that fire chiefs big bad badge. Total of five big bad badges. It's time for peru to hire a badge inspector. And a full-time city employee to polish those big bad badges. Is the safety officer going to cancel trick or treating. And re-schedule for tomorrow? Due to the weather?

LASALLE HAS 28 firefighters. 17 are EMT certified. 5 are paramedics. How many of perus fireman are emt's and paramedics? How many fireman are on perus department? I heard peru has under 20. Who knows?

Anonymous said...

Lasalle has their own ambulance service. 3:33 your questions are good though. Lasalles fire chief has EMT, doe perus fire chief?

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:30 You are intentionally trowing salt on a bleeding wound when mentioning a dumpster in Peru although most agree that a good housekeeping is in dire need.
Recent front page article on the former electrical superintendent fails to mention the name of the attorney who defended the head of the AC-DC Department. It was not the present city attorney was it?
If it was the present city attorney who paid him?
One thing for sure in Peru these fellows are not stupid, they don't work for nothing. $307,000.00
