Activity at the Former Crazy D's Truck Stop or Flea Market

There was a blog posting several days ago about the union rat appearing at the demo of the old Crazy D's truck stop which was formerly Hamiltons and most recently a "flea market" which ended about 2 years ago.

The property has been for sale but has had no takers and the owners decided to take the building down in an attempt to make the property more desirable to a buyer.  They hired non union labor and began to the razing of the building. And that is when the rat made his entrance because they were not using union labor. The rat truly loves coming to Peru considering the number of times he has made an unasked for appearance.

The rat is gone and I understand the laborers are also gone and the building is standing half razed and will probably remain in that condition. You all know how I feel about this, so I won't go on any more. I have been told more times than once that Peru is a very unfriendly town to business and perhaps they are right.

It so happens that recently Peru became short one property appraiser. For further information go to the Illinois Dept. of Professional Registration and scroll through until you come to and recognize from Peru.

I wonder what commercial property valuation he changed?
And why?

Was he involved in any assessments for the city itself?

Just shows how UNIONS have really wrecked this area.

A building half razed reminds one of Detroit which recently declared bankruptcy. I don't understand why a organization represents itself with the negative symbol of a huge rat but I don't appreciate Peru being represented by a partially demolished site to everyone travelling on a major interstate. The time is long overdue for local city officials to take care of business here at home and confront any and all organized groups which are stopping positive progress in the City of Peru. Yes, there is a local city offical who has major affiliations which he will have to be put aside to represent the office, city and people he has been elected to do but his office mandates this responsibility. This would be a initial step toward leadership.

Are any city office holders associated with this service?

Township Assessor Salary over $40,000. The office of the Assessor is the only elected position that has statutory, pre-election requirements. What happens when he or she looses the "pre-election" certifications?

unions saved this area- illinois is a strong hold for them thank you!

I am curious if any of the commercial property was in a TIF district or for the City of Peru? It was always rumored around town Beiderstedt was known as the "low" appraiser.

Does the township assessor need to be a licensed appraiser and if the licensing board made this decision on 6/20/13 did the democrats now during the past election of this questionable activity and chose not to act? Why hasn't the media addressed it yet?

The mayor and city council repeatedly express their concern about the door step to Peru which are the run down properties on May Road. Why then are we not concerned about the half demolished Crazy D property which is highly visible from Route 80 in all directions. We need to take care of our city first and foremost and not the unions. Can anyone tell me who has more power in this situation - the union or the mayor???

Union. Mayor is just a Union mouthpiece.

If unions saved this area, why did Jewel, CF, Sundstrand, Midway (all high paying) move out? I believe it was because they could relocate and stay in business instead of putting up with a bunch of lazy troublemakers (like the rat lovers). Too bad those kind wreck it for the poor people who want to work and are satisfied with their job! It only takes a couple of rotten apples.

Seems to be a second offense for the appraiser. What was the first? In my opinion, "changed the valuation of another appraiser and use of electronic signature without the consent or knowledge, engaged in a pattern and practice of appraising beyond the level of his residential appraisal license by appraising commercial properties" is a rather severe violation in my eyes. Wow. Wonder how much of this his friend knew about??

Anon 10:46 The position of Mayor has more power but the position is dependent upon who is filling it and what he/she prefers. In this instance the union has more power .

6:09 "His friend"? Who would that be? Surely you don't mean the mayor?

Just out of curiosity, did the city buy crazy D's and then demolish?

No city did not purchase, still privately owned.

Anon 9:48 Are you kidding me? City leadership will never give their favorite RAT a reason to appear. This group is all about union, right or wrong.
If there is something being done in Peru that is non union the RAT will show up. This is whether what is being done is for Perus betterment or not. If supporters of the RAT would have supported some of the businesses they show up at maybe there never would have bewen a need of the RAT.

Who wants Duh Bet this Crazy D partial demolishing is a Harl scheme to get the city to own then demolish that too?
City can't leave it like that very long. Can see the headlines now, city of Peru forced to purchase Crazy Ds due to non payment of fines by city. Property owner forecloses.

Go Sickem Frankie!

I think somebody is going to get real rich off those properties up by 80. City buys them all, pays for all the demolition, uses the excuse that the properties are hard to sell, give them away for $1, and TIF them too. Hmmm.. think this has already happened.

GEE I WONDER WHO THE REALTOR WILL BE?

Sundstrand did not move because of the union.Poor upper management did not help.

Every union always blames management when they suck the competitiveness out of a company.

Tell the whole story . What mistakes did management make when their union labor was almost 40 percent more expensive than the competition.

Union ties an anchor to a car and lets it drag, then yells at the driver to go faster and win the race. The unions around here do very well by a few, while the majority suffers. Just like the evil capitalists that made unions necessary back in the day.

The union workers at Sundstrand took a $2 an hour cut to keep the company here. Did no good. Don't blame the union for moving.
