What will be the total expense of the fireworks of these eight surrounding communities?
6/3 Oglesby, Peru, Spring Valley
6/4 Mendota, Ottawa, Princeton
6/5 Utica
6/6 Streator
Thinl of the the expenses that would be saved each community if these eight would combine to a centerally located site that could handle the crowd.
The passing of the hat and the financial contribution back to each individual city that they would save would far surpass the concert donation that will be given 0n 7/6 at the Peru Airport.
There should be fireworks at the Peru Airport on 7/6. Oglesby, Peru Spring Valleu, Mendota and Utica are a short distance from the airport. It is a win win situation more fireworks, less expenses. The site could be shifted from town to town each year also.

Oglesby is a private funded firework show...so cross that one off your list!

That is very interesting. Do you mean that there were donations given either by the local residents or by local Oglesby businesses?

Anonymous said...

Even though Oglesbys fireworks are privately funded why wouldn't those who fund the display consider a co-operative effort if it is advantageous to Oglesby?

Anonymous said...

There were generous local sponsors:

Illinois Valley Cellular, Eureka Savings Bank, AEA, Inc., Jacob & Klein, Suarez & Associates, Illini State Bank and Holloway's Portables

see..a few people got it done!!

557. That wouldn't/shouldn't happen. Imagine the congestion. Fireworks would be spectacular but the logistics of it would be disastrous.

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:57 How do you know it would be disastrous? Last year the starting prediction of Kid Rocks attendance was 15,000+ and the Mayor and Chief of Police were ready to take it on at the airport with local law enforcement. PPD with the help of the county and state law enforcement would have no problems in parking and patrol issues. The Peru Park Commission would jump upon this idea with open arms.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:20 You ae correct. The numbers would not be as big as most people think because many in attendence at one town are in attendence at another town the folowing night. It often times is the same people travelling from fireworks location to another fireworks location on different nights.

Anonymous said...

Try to change the location from Water Street and watch the CSO have a fit. Remember the Peru Park Commission was in favor of moving it to Baker Lake, but that was disastrous. Having it at the airport would require shutting down airspace for the duration of the show. A lot of red tape required for that.

11:54 do you know which fireworks company is doing Oglesby's show?

Peru Town Forum said...

For the last few nights, I am hearing as many fireworks as I do when they are done by the city and this is coming from somewhere in the neighborhood. Very difficult to enforce the law against them.

For Christs sakes lets let the people enjoy America's birthday. I for one can handle this for a week out of the year

Cities spend thousands of dollars to entertain you with fireworks and to keep everybody else from possibly hurting themselves or innocent bystanders. Not to mention all the pets, children and ill people that are sometimes very disturbed by the persistent and loud noise. Tonight it was constant and if there were not fireworks everywhere over the next week done by skilled technicians, I might think OK, blow up a few and make some noise but that is not the case. Have some consideration for those who just happen to live in this city and maybe near you.

The city doesn't enforce the fireworks law anyway . i call police last nite just before ten because some was shooting of large ones that shock the windows . sure it fun but what if it was a gas meter or a house exploading ? the police went too house where it was going on and the man said he didn't think they were that loud . that was it no fine no taking of fire works no nothing by police dept. he said he would stop for nite ? DUH ? why have a law you don't enforce ? oh forgot this is the CITY OF PERU ! W.Y.K. - N.W.Y.B. !!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:51 I am all for the letting people enjoy Americas Birthday of which there are many opportunities to do so besides exploding loud noise makers at 2:20in the morning.
The constant noise is annoying and a nuisance and breaks the law. As fireworks have become increasingly available to purchase the problems they create have increased proportionally.
Lois you are so correct in stating the difficulties fireworks create for animals, the elderly and the ill. I think that it has reached the time to call the police when and report those who find it favorable to break the law. Sadly it appears that a few arrests are the solution.
A law should be made that business' that sell fireworks also have to provide a place to set them off and that the purchased product does not leave this site. Also if this site causes anyone problems it is to be shut down by legal authorities. END OF PROBLEM!

Can't wait for the new company to do the Peru Fireworks show. It will be spectacular.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:20 Thank you for your positive comment. It is the first one on the fireworks I have heard for years.
Would someone infrom this blog if the Peru CSO are contributing any money toward the fireworks and how much?
Wouldn't 99% of the bad mouthing of the fireworks be gone if the CSO didn't have a beer tent on Water Street the night of July 3d.
Who cares if they sponsor a band behind their beer tent, they are ruining a great family night and living off the taxpayers fireworks.
What does the CSO do with the money it raises July 3d?

Anonymous said...

3:02 The fireworks are paid in full by the park and rec board. The CSO contributes nothing toward them.

Anonymous said...

The Illinois Vally should have one show - on the river, viewable from Starved Rock.

Anonymous said...

3:43 to be more exact the fireworks are paid in full by the Peru taxpayers.

Anonymous said...

Good question, what does the CSO do with the money it makes at the beer tent on July 3rd?

The City Clerk had told me some weeks ago that the profit is given to the city. I don't think it is a lot of money.

Anonymous said...

How does the city clerk know he is getting all of the profit?

Anonymous said...

CSO pays for the porta-potties, band, stage, bus. Probably not much profit after the fixed costs. If it rains they will lose money.

Anonymous said...

What is the amount and what is the city doing with it? This little itty bitty isn't thrown into that big untraceable pot hidden in the basement behind the BB gun club is it? I doubt if this WINK WINK LEDGER is officially disclosed for public knowledge. I don't doubt that there are some in city hall to hear of these WINK WINK ACCOUNTS being questioned. Again what is the amount and what is the city doing with it?

Anonymous said...

What are wink accounts. Please be more specific. I doubt you have any accounts in public financing that are hidden from view. Maybe you would like to buy dramshop insurance, set-up tents, rent a stage, pay a band, rent porta potties, hire a bus, take down, buy ice, get voluteers for the event. And then use all the minimal profits for the benefit of Peru.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:34 Sure would and I still ask what are the profits, not what Peru gets but the profits. To start with your problem is that you do not know what WINK WINK ACCOUNTS are?

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:55 Pardon Anon 11:34 and cut them some slack they possibly may have just moved to Peru in the last few days. One of the criteria of being a citizen of Peru is to know what WINK WINK ACCOUNTS are.

For the past four or so years I've been watching a show from my house in Dalzell. They put it on the Saturday before July 4th, this year it was on the 29th. I can't figure out who puts it on but I think it's coming from Peru. It comes from about the north east. Can any one help me out?

Anonymous said...

8:55 more of the same claims with nothing to back up your imagination. Can you name a wink account? What is a wink account?

Anonymous said...

10:28. I think it's the neighborhood around Barney's Lake. They do it every year.

Anonymous said...

Wink Accounts are those accounts which are inserted into the general fund and than placed in another fund to cover up creative financing. Recently the usage of city employees in building the BB gun club, where the "in kind" terminology was utilized so that city employees labor was not reported. Approximetly five active employees plus one now "retired" employee unaccountable for four to six weeks and a $1600 signed disbursemnt by a Superintendent. Of course one alderman said this was a good thing since there wasn't anything for the employees to do last winter since our area didn't get snow.

Anonymous said...

I think the fireworks in Peru tonight were excellent. I think they were way better than last year.

Anonymous said...

1024. Really? I thought they were terrible. We paid 19500 for that?!?! If that was a grand finale at the end it was pathetic

Anonymous said...

10:24 I totally agree. They were spectacular from beginning to end and were none stop.

Anonymous said...

4:31 wink accounts placed in one fund and moved to another? Your example has nothing to do with moving funds or secret funds. We get it your against a BB gun club. Why always claim corruption? Visit the club and watch the kids. They are having a good time.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:25 You can't be as stupid as your answer to 4:31.

Anonymous said...

We will have another "in kind" donation for the concert tomorrow. How long did it take city employees to do the necessary work to get the airport ready? Sure the city is getting $5.00 per car, but what has been paid in salaries? How many employees worked there and how many hours or days did it take? Will they have to clean it up when it's over? I'm sure that will be another figure we will never know just like the "in kind" for the BB gun club.

Peru Town Forum said...

11:16 PM

We will never know the amount of man hours used to get the airport ready for the concert and for the cleanup afterward. Plus the number of police and fire used for traffic control and safety control.
A city run by a few for the benefit of a few. Don't forget your real estate taxes are due next week.

Anonymous said...

How many fireman will be getting paid for this concert? Who is paying them??the concert promotor? They should pay them. My tax dollars nor my donations to Liberty Fire absolutely should not go towards paying them. Concert promotor should pay them. Who can answer this?

Peru Town Forum said...

My question is how many man hours of police, fire and public works did this concert cost the city of Peru?
How close is the cost to the amount of money Peru charged for parking cars?
Are we even even?

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:48 If the amount of hours and the cost/hour/occupation were turned in for the concert would you trust them? Recent examples such as the cities manhour costs for the BB gun clubs and cash disbursements should be enough of a example to create everlasting doubt.
Over $25,000 of debt owed to the city was erased last year by the mayor what in heaven makes you think it will be such a winner this yeat? The word is that ticket sales were low and it cost $500,000 to get Tug to Peru.

Anonymous said...

Yes, ticket sales were supposed to have ended up in the 6,000 range. Last year the original projection of ticket sales for the Kid was 15,000 and attendance was below 9,000. I don't recall any embarrassing projections made this year for the 7/6/13 concert. Maybe the airport is intended to be a pickleball court?

Anonymous said...

Hope they lost their A--ES!

Anonymous said...

peru had the worst fireworks ever!!!! hennepin fireworks KICKED ASS and made peru look terrible

Anonymous said...

Laughing about what a paper article said that APPROXIMATELY 6000 advanced tickets were sold for McGraw concert. Good record keeping can and should give an exact amount of tickets. What about tickers sold at gate? How many? No mention of that number. This can be exact also. It would be so easy to sell hundreds of tickets without any documentation. NEED I SAY MORE? Maybe it's time to take concerts elsewhere since attendance is not being as what was expected. And no, having concerts at Peru airport doesnt put Peru on the map!
