If anyone has a catch basin like this on your street please call your alderman, how is rain water going to run into this???

Picture of a catch basin somewhere in Peru, is this in your ward?

If you took the photo, why didn't you clean out the catch basin? Or call Public Works? Instead you prefer to be critical.

Where was this picture taken? After a rainstorm and all debris gets flowing down streets, it stops somewhere. Do homes around where this picture got taken get flooded? If so, too much water going into this area of a sewer being too small for the amount of water being taken in. As far as picture shown, the homeowner should pick up debris after a storm. Pure laziness of a homeowner to see this and not bend over forward, use your arms and hands, pick up and put in garbage can.

That's considered detention of water and could be helpful if the sewers were overloaded. It's best to keep the water on the street in some cases.

Where are you coming from 9:31? It wasn't stated whether or not the person who took the picture picked up the debris. MY QUESTION TO YOU 9:31, is, Why does your blog denote criticism?

Nice crabgrass hanging slightly over curb! The city does have sewer problems in my opinion that has been neglected, causing extreme distress of many homeowners. In which many homeowners never had water problems in their basement until recent years. However, the homeowner needs to take responsibility to keep storm drains clear that are in front of their house. Where exactly was this picture taken?

Everything on that picture is a homeowner issue, not a city issue. Is the city to drive around and uncover thousands of storm drains after every rain? Is the city to come around and trim your crabgrass for you? Seriously. This is home ownership 101.

There is alot of blacktop road debris pieces in that photo which floated along the curb during a rainstorm and collected there. I've noticed this happens alot by personally seeing it. What happened to the street cleaners? Do they pick up those pieces? Definitely the homeowner should clean areas as such after a storm.

Does Peru have a street sweeper?

Peru does have a streetsweeper but don't believe they have a schedule.

Perhaps that catch basin is not near a residence but just guessing, it might be located near city property as a city park, then who is responsible?

You think me or the other thousand of people that don't ask for the green and orange wrapped papers chucked out of moving vehicles by the news trib, are responsible for picking them up, you are wrong!!! That's called littering!!! Fine the news trib for repairs and cleaning of the sewers!!!

basin at corner of nw corner of oak terrance parking lot with broken sidewalk.

9:34. I agree with you on that one! It's ridiculous that the news trib keeps putting those things in people's yards when there are already 3 or 4 of them laying in the yard. You have to call the news trib to have it stopped. That is littering and they should be forced to stop it. I've seen those in all conditions deteriorating in the road and in yards.

Maybe our worthless super of pubic works should have someone trim the bushes growing out of the sewers on the NW corner of 4th street and Peoria st. That could cause a backup or a problem.
Oh wait none of his employees follow orders from him, he says!
Maybe he should do it.

About 4 or 5 years back the newstrib was told at a council meeting to not throw another one if there is already one there because they were throwing them at vacant houses and empty lots. They were on rooftops and all over the streets. This is considered unsolicited mail and is not supposed to be allowed.

It is amazing to see the neglect so close to our city hall. I have seen the same giant weed on Peoria St., this is a symptom of how unorganized our Public Works Dept. is.
There was another giant weed across the street from city hall that must have grown for several years and no one at city hall seemed to see it even though I was told that people did tell the powers that be about it. It was so tall that people thought itwas a plant meant to be there. Driving by today I see it finally has been removed.
I wonder how long it will take the public works dept. to take care of the volley ball pole in the 28th St Park Evidently the pole was knocked down near the base by a riding lawn mower. The rusty base remains there waiting for someone to fall on it. It has also been reported.

The reason that the green and orange wrapped weekly paper is delivered to each home that does not recieve the daily newspaper is to increase it circulation numbers which increases the cost per advertisements. This does not make it right and the paper should be delievered at the doorstep to only those who have asked for it.

Anon 4:23 PM You state that the SPW claims that none of his employees follw his orders. If this is true why would you give him the opportunity to cut the weeds himself. A person who states that his directions are not being followed and shows no proof of disciplinary action to those insubordinates should himself be fired for lack of ability in doing his own job. Also the refusial of the Building Inspector to follow specific orders given to him by superiors should have cost him his job also. This situation was observed at a city council meeting.
Neither of these individuals are highly qualified or shown at least average performance to justify their cointinued existence as Peru Government Officials, but sadly I'll guarantee that both will retire from the city with a (undeserved) pension. The pay of these two is proof that you don't need a gun to rob the City of Peru.

A $90,000+ weed cutter along with a $30.00/hour Part Time Assistant Building Inspector who needs a Code Enforcer to accomplish his job is what Peru doesn't need and presently has. Senority and favortism are not the qualifications for choosing capable management.

I think the summer help could go around town and clean up all the catch basins, spray the weeds or pull them out. This town is a disgrace, when you ride up and down the neighborhood blocks. Those kids don't have enough grass everyday of the week. Russ Schmidt and his daughter do most of Washington Park. So clean up the catch basins and the weeds along the curbs.

A list of summer employees who were hired?? A friend was telling me that some teenagers were interested for a summer job in the city. However none were hired due to the fact they had no connections to some people to be hired. Is this true? Is this how the city operates? If so, what a example to our younger generation.

As far as I know that is how it has always been and nothing has changed. I think that any resident can FOIA a list of names by email or in person. Or perhaps go to the city clerks office and ask to see a list of summer employees.

If a person owned a business who could hire their own family members, but could get that family member a summer job with the city because of their name or their own occupation with the city without hesitation is wrong. The teenager who has no connections with the city doesn't stand a chance. Why are these city hired teenagers/employees allowed to use their cell phones all day and text? While on the taxpayers clock. Who's the foreman for these teenagers/young adults to make sure their working and doing their job?

11:26 more unsupported claims.

anon 12:05PM Prove 11:26 is making unsupported claims. Shut 11:26 down. Its simple. publish a list of all the summer help and what associations they have or don't have. Good Luck, but I bet we don't get that list!

Anonymous said...

Yes 11:26 "While on the taxpayers clock" but not on the city time clock.

Anonymous said...

OK 11:48 I'll bite. Why "While on the taxpayers clock" but not on the city time clock?

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:38 The city employees do not have a time clock or any similar means of record keeping.
