Peru Events in July

There will be a concert in Centennial Park on July 3 from 6 to 8 PM put on by the Air Force Midwest Band from Peoria. I understand there is no charge to the city. This sounds like it will be a great concert......

July 3 is also the day for Fireworks on Water Street that takes place at dusk to dark of the evening. I am not aware of anything different being done there this year than is traditionally done. Talked to City Hall and they do not know that a family, no alcohol area will be put in place.

Last fall an ordinance was passed by the City Council that put all events in the hands of the Recreation Board and as far as I have heard, it will be the CSO in charge with their beer tent, a band and several local vendor locations with unknown products or displays.

Sounds like there will NOT be an alcohol free area for families.

There is no problem with alcohol. It is a legal product, sold under stipulations and licenses which are issued by the city and state.
Did you ever realize that your problem with alcohol are those who cannot handle it and overdrink?

Hey 9:22, I'm a social drinker. I also think that a no alcohol area when families can take their kids and avoid the drunken slobs behavior is a commendable idea that the city can easily make attainable at a zero cost at a celebration such as the 4th of July on waterstreet. My opinion of waterstreet is that it looks like a
DUMP SITE, which should be an embarrassment to city officials.

Social Drinker - If the location is not fit for a child to be there it is not fit for a adult also and should be shut down.
If your description of Water Stree is accurate i.e. avoid the drunken slobs behavior, DUMP SITE, embarrassment to city officials why are you turning a blind eye and not supporting those who asked to have it moved. In conclusion if your comment is accurate of the 4th of July location it should not only be a embarrassment to city officials but a embarrassment to all citizens of Peru.
I have never been on Water Street for the 4th so I do not have my own opinion and rely upon others. There are several other locations nearby that are consistently better and cost their sponsors much less from what I have been told.

No area is alcohol free. I was speaking to an alderman candidate and he had said what is to stop people from mixing vodka and sprite in a sprite bottle, or captain morgan and coke in a coke bottle. Are we going to stop everyone we see with a drink and smell it? Give me a break.

10:17- A designated area is better then nothing! The best fireworks are seen on a river! Riverfronts in many towns have their fireworks displayed on the river. And I have to agree with blogger that waterstreet in Peru looks like a
Dump. The city should do something about it.

After reading different viewpoints I have to agree with 9:22. It is people who cannot handle their alcohol and who make others uncomfortable not the alcohol. These lawbreakers know the penalties that are to be enforced and if they are enforced there will be very little mishandling of alcohol.
The people who issue the liquor license have a obligation to those attending the fireworks to maintain law and order through the police force. The police force also has a obligation to maintain order and to do this they are going to have to walk through the crowd continuously and make arrests upon discovery of disorders. Wasn't there only one arrest last July 3rd on Water Street.

Have you ever know Water Street in Peru to look like anything else than a dump. You are awful old if you do. The city has alot more important things to do with money than fixing up Water Street.

12:04 The alderman could not come up with a better solution and answer to the issue of alcohol during the 4th of July celebration??? Did this candidate win?

The city seems to have money for everything else 6:57. Look at the tax revenue the city gets from a couple of the businesses on waterstreet. Gravel, weed killer doesn't cost that much. At least keep up maintenance of the pot holes for cryin out loud. More flowers in pots might help too! Maybe the pickleball players can volunteer their time down there on waterstreet. Now, that's a idea isn't it?

721 Yes the candidate did win

Anon 12:04 I'll give you and the alderman both, a break. Does everyone driving a car get arrested for overdrinking? No, only those that have a BAC over the legal limit.
Public intoxication also calls for a arrest. Maybe a few of the aldermen ought to learn the law,but I doubt if they ever will because it is easier for them to practice the blind eye method.
Quit blaming alcohol and place the blame where it belongs. OVERDRINKING!
Their are certain days in the year in which you can drink that you will never be arrested such as the 3rd of July, the policemens fund raiser at Cedar Point, the firemens smoker and the mayors golf outing if you have been in attendance.

The pickleball club is interested in one thing and that is themselves. They have no consideration for any of the neighbors that live around the park, as was evident when the porta potty was moved right smack dab in the middle of the park so we all can see. I wish just one of them lived by the park and woke up every morning to the sight of an outhouse. Thank you very much rec board for putting the residents first on your list. Show me one other park that has this eyesore.

4:34. No other park is the Pickleball ambassador's very own park! Of course you won't see this in any other park because its for "his highness"!

28th street neighbors, I would be concerned not only of the living conditions we are experiencing but also if this park and its present conditions are lowering our property valuation.
Who has the responsibiity within the government to determine this and to promote recourse?
28th Street is the present example of a entire town which is in the sad direction of going to pot.

When is the fire departments open house? Someone said they read that the date is forthcoming. Why isn't there a date? Wasn't it always the same Saturday in the same month? The joke was that the openhouse for fire department is being planned around a persons vacation. So that person can show face and will be there.

3:30 PM

The date was changed from this summer until a day in the fall that will be announced. Maybe someone can relay that info to us blog readers.

3:30 & 4:26- the possibility could have a duel purpose to change date, meaning a vacation and maybe the new pumper truck wouldn't be done to show it off is why date is unknown. I don't think a answer was given as to how much fundraising money was being put into this fire trucks purchase from liberty fire companies donations donated from taxpayers, to cut cost from the city. We've never gotten a report of what monies is spent on. It has been asked numerous times.

There is no money going from Liberty to the new truck.

7:19, shameful of Liberty fire company/perus fire department to request donations from Peru residents and taxpayers and businesses yearly for the purpose to buy equipment and none of that donated money was used to help defray the cost of néw pumper truck that had been ordered! Hasn't it been 10+ years since the aerial truck was purchased? If so, that means that there had been 10+ years of money that had been donated from taxpaying residents and from businesses. Where's the money going? Why hasn't anybody (alderman/mayor) looked into this and asked questions????????????????

My husband and I have donated to Liberty several hundreds of dollars throughout the years, and now I'm wondering about donations. I understand that there are expenses for training, gear, etc.... Could someone give us information as to how much the department has been given by the donations from taxpayers/businesses since the last fire truck purchase. This should be easily ascertained. The above bloggers have valid points and questions.

Do you know why not 7:19?
