While We Plan for Future Recreation in Peru We Must Be Aware of What is at LaSalle Rotary Park

http://www.wlpo.net/news/default.asp

Look off to the right side and click on Gary Gearhart and Rotary Park. I was not at all informed as to what would be included in this park and how large it is and how much volunteer labor including that of 150 was donated to make this park a reality.

Before all the Peru Peru residents jump all over me, this is important for the future development of Peru sports activities. When that park will have 2 regulation size soccer fields and 5 baseball fields, how much money do we want to invest in more of them in our city. Of course we will continue to have leagues for all ages but this could be an opportunity for the cities to work together.  It is also time for us to be aware of what is available close to our city.

When is Peru going to do something as creative as this? http://newstrib.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=29&ArticleID=28581

Ottawa is definitely going to be a destination site for tourists from many places. The Mayor of Ottawa has vision and he knew he needed the rest of the city to believe in what he believed. Working with the businesses, organizations and yes volunteers, he has developed a city visitors will enjoy coming to and leave someof the money in Ottawa.
During the library forum Mayor Harl seemed to brag about his friend Ottawa Mayor Bob Eschbach, maybe it is time for a chat over lunch to get some tips.

Anon 9:58 What suggestions do you and have that Peru should creativly do? Good orginal ideas that don't duplicate LaSalle's.
Number One idea is that the two cities should start a program of sharing. This sharing should be in recreational facilities, city equipment, city planning, purchasing , utilities and services. The list of co-operative ideas should go on and on and be endless. In time Oglesby and Spring Valley should be included. These towns should eventually become one under one government. To achieve this goal all narrow minded city officials will have to be out of the picture of tunnel vision. It can be done!

Possibly Jennifer would do a radio interview of the Mayor of Ottawa. It would be great to hear a person of her age and ability express the questions she believes are important in creation of a town she would envision in our community.
Mayor Bob's answers would be an additional plus in how to successfully conduct a positive development.

12:32 I thank you for you question. The reply I have is first we should be looking at what problems are we looking at solving? I'm well aware of a few young minds affiliated with the City of Peru that we have yet to tap into their creative genius, these young people would be instrumental in helping solve todays problems. I am in no way trying to "sell short" our aged city council, we do need wisdom from an older generation, but young minds could help us solve problems in a smarter, more up to date fashion. It's funny how you mention the city of peru and lasalle should start "sharing". I wholeheartedly agree, after all, the only thing that separates Peru and Lasalle is street signs and politics.

And to really get into the spirit of sharing, lets have an alderman exchange, like a student exchange, so we can learn from each other. How about for one month and see how it goes. Maybe we could move on to the mayor exchange and even expand beyond La Salle and Peru. All in the spirit of cooperation and education and becoming better cities.

How are children going to get Rotary Park, ride their bikes over Route 6 and then go noorth on the Troy Grove blacktop. Seems A little dangerous to me. Not every child has a ride to a park. Seventy-eight per cent of the students in LaSalle schools are at or below proverty level. This is how they are able to get grants for this park that doesn't have a safe way for kids to get there. I'm Not 100% positive, but LaSalle Has to be able to match those grants. Seems to me that a lot will be wasted unless a bike path is made to it.

Interesting question. I don't have enough information about the park to know. From what I have heard, there is more talk about parking lots for cars than bike paths. Perhaps more a park that has to be driven to than a local neighborhood park. This may free up Hegler Park to be more available for kids. La Salle could really use another small neighborhood park or 2.

Regarding rotary park and the sports complex in lasalle. There are not many residents that I've heard that are happy campers about these two developments! Blogger: you are absolutely correct! The location of rotary couldn't be any worse! Personally, I foresee a park for youngsters hanging out with the possibility of illegal activity. Out in the boonies! The L-P area isn't having any population growth and below poverty levels are rising. Where are peoples brains? No common sense.

LaSalle Peru are known as the Twin Cities so it is only logical that they have Twin Parks, Veterans and Rotary. Veterans Park has two ball diamonds which are so windy and uncomfortable laid out by Chamlain Eng. that Peru has appropriated $3,000 to lay out another. They must hate baseball.

I believe that Veterans Park is the most poorly designed park, I have ever seen. Located next to farm fields in a windy area, poor parking and not enough area to expand if that was needed and even smart. Even the trees planted there won't grow and I hear the doggie park leaves much to be desired with regard to upkeep. Wasn't Rotary Park originally Veterans Park because of the beautiful Civil War Statue in that park? Why didn't Peru just add a tribute to our military from other wars at that location? It is a quiet and peaceful location and would have been so appropriate for those wishing to reflect about the military service to their country.

Yes, Perus' original Veterans Park with its beautiful Civil War Statue could and should be a showpiece of property similar to Washington Park in Ottawa, Illinois. With some foresight and beautification I could picture the Civil War Statue being included in a bus tour along With Washington Park in Ottawa with its Lincoln Douglas statues.
Peru could hold its concerts in the park and also ice cream socials, farmers markets, welcome burgers etc. and it would make a great area to decorate for Christmas.
If anyone has the ability to draw what they believe could be done with this park or has some ideas for it please submit to the blog.

Veterans Park North besides Wigley Field is a couple of baseball diamonds, a non existent ice skating rink and a childrens overgrown playground next to a corn field.

Art moving the city band concerts off of Highway 6 with all its noise and exhaust pollution to the orginal Veterans Park is a great idea. Hope it is done for this years summer sessions.

Anon 3:04 Why doesn't Peru have a farmers market? This park would be a great location.
