Contacted the Attorney General and a better government PAC today for an up to date briefing on the procedures required. It certainly is do able from first look, but getting on the ballet before the election will be cutting it close.

I take it you are referring to recommend that Peru Twp be dissolved. What are the needed steps to be taken?

Please read:

SECTION 5. TOWNSHIPS
The General Assembly shall provide by law for the
formation of townships in any county when approved by
county-wide referendum. Townships may be consolidated or
merged, and one or more townships may be dissolved or
divided, when approved by referendum in each township
affected. All townships in a county may be dissolved when
approved by a referendum in the total area in which township
officers are elected.

One of the first steps is to contact the reporter who researched the article on the Township and get as much detail on the history and function of this group as possible, showing the abuse and waste in great detail. Then document the actions since the article, the meeting where the attendees insulted the citizens who showed up, these must be accurately detailed.

The suburban PAC can take it from there and get informational brochures and mailers made for little cost , but we will need to form a local PAC and raise some funds to pay for distribution via mail and by door to door distribution. Online petition site could then be used to show support for dissolution . There is help out there, but you have to reach out for it!

Once we have received the information on the steps needed, we can present them, but the forum does not seem to be the best place to do that. It is not an organized group. It is an open forum. It would be like the home team coaches making a game plan in public before a football game, making sure the other team gets to see it, then the home team coaches would not bother to show up AND discover they actually have no players to boot! If a PAC is not formally formed soon to actually do something besides point out the madness,, it will have little impact on upcoming elections.

These people count on the fact that the Peru citizens see a full expose in the paper, then just fall asleep and let the group actually give themselves a raise. THINK ABOUT THAT! The current administration counts on the fact that no one cares, that if you just do outrageous stuff sooner or later everyone forgets about it and the paper goes back to writing about jam recipes and the latest drug bust on route 80.

You missed A great township caucus Mr. Vickery again showed his true colors. Mr. Vickery is now out of Politics. Great for Peru and LaSalle County.

I hope to hear more about the Republican caucus as I heard the place was literally packed with people that could be seen through the large window in the front. Vickery was set to run again for twp. clerk, did someone oust him at this caucus. Are you at liberty to divulge any of the other candidates who will run.

To get away from the township system in LaSalle County would you to fight both the Democrat and Republican Parties - both parties have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. They will not allow the system to be changed.

I am not sure party has a bearing any longer on twp. elections because as I said earlier, Republicans and Democrats are running as independents and Independents are running as Democrats. In fact having a party label in this coming election might be more of a detriment than having no affiliation.
