remember, we have an extra half percent sales tax on gas thanks to you know who.

The half cent sales tax is one cent on every TWO gallons of gas you buy. To make a difference at the pump this would mean Peru's tax rate would have to be substantially higher than Ottawa's which it is not. Last I checked it is the same rate.

If you are making a political statement that is fine. If you are making a mathematical statement, it is false. I'm not criticizing you 6:12 but I am pointing this out for the people who misunderstand taxes.

9:38 - your math is correct. However, the total sales tax rate in Ottawa IL is 7%. In Peru, it is 7.5%. Source: State of Illinois. The sales tax is not a per gallon tax. It is also applied on top of the motor fuel tax and other gas taxes - so the sales tax for gasoline is a tax on a tax.
I made the statement because many people to not know there is a sales tax applied to gasoline. For whatever reason, gas stations are not required to itemize receipts so people do not know how much of that gallon of gas is actually tax.

Thank you for clarifying 10:39. You are correct, I was just making a point about the difference. I was thinking Ottawa was the same but the point is still that taxes are not the difference in the gas price between here and Ottawa.
