Mrs. Lois Carroll, Lois in the position of co-creator and co-commentator of the blog and now in sole position of each, a person who attends committee and council meetings to actually winess what you write about. In this position , one in which you are a true volunteer who receives no pay or expense account and gives more time to the upkeep of the blog than any paid city official participates in his position.
As a citizen who actively gave much of your time to get the present Mayor elected and now find it better to give this time to Mike Hart than Scott Harl.
Would you answer a younger person and this answer does not have to be today or tomorrow but please whenever it is appropriate to you to answer my inquiry?
HAS IT BEEN WORTH IT AND WHY

After considerable deliberation and a wonderful presentation by an Extreme Pyrotechnics representative the rec board finally voted unanimously to give Extreme a try. It's representative was able to answer multiple questions that were asked of him. No other pyrotechnics company sent a representative. Now the decision rests with the city council. If proposal is passed you could very well view a new 4th of July fireworks display synchronized to music.

Something else we need to be concerned about.
I was at Right Spice on Friday Night and noticed a guy at the bar. He was there for a couple hours drinking. I don't know the guy but we ended up leaving about the same time. As we got into our car I saw him get into a vehicle and drive off. The vehicle had municiple plates and the side of the white vehicle had- Lasalle County Housing Authority on it.
This is not right! This guy was no doubt intoxicated and driving a county vehicle. Who is in charge of this part of county besides us tax payers? If he killed someone what a lawsuit that would be.

REPORT IT TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY!! THIS SHOULD NOT BE.

Anon 9:50 Did you consider that a person does not become intoxicated by the amount of time he sits at a bar but instead by the number of beverages served to him?
You mentioned that the person was there a couple of hrs and that you and another left at the same time. I would think that to know all the above, you also had to be there before he was. If both of you were drinking who drove home, or was one of you a designated driver, or do neither of you drink and just chose to go out and observe those who do?
You have made a statement that both of you witnessed this person who you say "no doubt was intoxicated" and driving. What did you do about this? Did you offer to give him a ride home or drive him home? Did you offer to call someone for him? Did you offer him any assistance or ask him to walk home? Did you go back to the bartender and ask him to manage the situation? Did you offer to call a cab for him?
If you are so sure that this person was intoxicated and you came to no assistance you are part of the problem. The correct procedure is not to make a report to the blog the next day but to assist at the time that the incident is occuring.
I do notice that you mention if someone had been killed what a lawsuit that would be. Your concern of the almight dollar rather than someones life is truly Christian.

He was probably the head of the Housing Authority he is a huge democrat as our the owners of Right Spice. Somebody needs to dig into that Agency that pretty much goes unchecked with taxpayer spending, federal grants, etc. especially since they are subsidized by the federal government.

3:36 I was at Right Spice for a holiday party. I was drinking and noticed he was also drinking. I was ordering a drink at the time he ordered another. I know he had at least two drinks so I'm sure if he was there for a couple hours after that he most likely had more than the two I saw.
As I said, we were getting into our car which was away from his vehicle. My husband doesn't drink and he was designated driver for us. We were across the street always when I noticed him get behind the wheel of that county vehicle and drive away. If we were right there I would've done something but it was what I observed I would've had to literally had to run across a yard and across a street to stop him and wasn't about to take off heels and run. Regardless if this guy had two drinks or even drinking soda, he should not have a county vehicle during leisure time. Tax payer vehicle, gas, and insurance.

Does is matter in Peru or LaSalle County-recall the Christmas Party when Mayor Harl allowed a few City employees to drink alcohol and then plow snow a few years ago? Right Spice again and that was on video!

Anonymous said...

If you drive a vehicle paid for by tax payers whether its municipal plates or not, one drink is drunk driving. Zero tolerance for the rule. If you witnessed this why the h*ll didn't you call the police. If he would've wrecked how would you have felt if an innocent person got killed or hurt. Too many people witness this behavior whether a city or county worker or not and say nothing. Shame on all of you.

This is off the subject above but I wonder which political candidates, if any, turned in their petitions today.

Really, 6:23 Mayor Harl condoned drinking and driving at a Christmas Party with a city plow truck? Cameras? Cameras now? How easy it is to push rewind, delete, video malfunctioned. Another reason to vote in April. WOW. People are very observant.

Housing Authority, what does that department actually do? Why would anybody drive any government vehicle to an establishment and drink alcohol? Are there cameras in the establishment where this behavior of a person took place? Is this an indication of a persons superiority to be over the law? Very shocking to me.

Kristie has the christmas video and police report. Oh Kristie can you come out to play?

Anonymous said...

A police report? Really? Please inform the voters. Citizens and bloggers. What month-year? Was any of this info blogged? If so, what month/year can we go back to blogged title in regards to this. Wonder if any of this was discussed in closed sessions? Is this personal information unavailable to taxpayers? Wonder what the reprimand was? Suspension, dismissal,, etc.. Is there a code if conduct for employees? SOP for incidents? Alot of questions. Christmas video if what and where?

I am a simple observer this election (may not even vote) and will not be providing documents, photos/videos, or insight to any blog.

Just my opinion, but I think Kristy, and Lois for that matter, have taken more than their share of heat, hassle and crap trying to help Peru. It is time for the rest of us to step up. Elections are one thing but participating is an everyday task.
I just want to say thanks to them.

The Housing Authority provides needed services to impoverished people in our area. They supervise the housing units that are available, meet with the clients, and make sure the people receiving services are actually in need of those services. This is just a small list of the duties of the Housing Authority. Do some research to find out what people do at their jobs in our area instead of making it seem like you think their jobs are meaningless or worthless.

Anonymous said...

9:34 I believe it is the Housing Authority workers who are making the case that their jobs are meaningless and worthless if and when they use the vans to go drinking. The vast majority of citizens do not even read this blog according to most who criticize it.

What one person chooses to do does not paint the entire work-force. Hae you thought that this person you are slandering might have just cause to have been in the restaurant that night? I really don't trust people who are so judgemental of others.

Anonymous said...

In order to slander someone, you would need to post their name and the injured party would in fact need to prove that they were actually not at the location drinking. I believe you would also be pursuing a libel case, not slander unless the blog poster was spreading the information verbally.

The poster should have taken down the license number or photographed the truck and reported the matter to the individuals supervisor to determine whether or not the individual had reason to be at that location and drive that vehicle. If they were on break or an allowed meal, and drinking was not prohibited specifically while working or driving a government vehicle, there would be no need to contact the police unless the individual was intoxicated.

We can state that even one drink is not allowed or is drunk driving, but that may not be the governmental authority policy and it would only be drunk driving if his blood alcohol was over the legal limit.

Rather than blogging, I would recommend asking the Housing Authority for their policy.

9:34 you are using plural nouns and verbs when, according to previous letters, one man was spotted in one vehicle.

Anonymous said...

One man spotted in one vehicle who was so wrong. After the considerable amount of criticism which he deserves what has actually been done about the situation? What corrective actions and positive steps have been taken?
Has the situation been reported to the Housing Authority and have they followed procedure?

Anonymous said...

5:42 Using plurals when discussing a representative of an organization acting while on duty is acceptable. Arguing semantics to distract from the issue of poor judgment and possible law breaking is generally not effective. My post was clearly pointing out the actions of one representative throws a cloud on the entire group., much more than the post of the whistle blower. That person has been attacked as being un Christian, a slanderer, judgmental. Anything else you want to add?

The taxpayers and non impaired drivers are the victims here, not whoever you seem hell bent on protecting. If the Housing Authority is truly a great organization, why aren't their representatives on here explaining the situation or asking for contact and details for possible disciplinary action?

Keep up the good work Lois!!! The only people against you are the ones we supported last election. We know what a disappointment that was! IT turned out to be as big of a click and bigger than before I am sorry to say. Hopefully this time around something positive will end up happening.
