One day Peru has no money, the next day they have money if there is some want. One day the city doesn't want any more property, a couple of days later they are buying another piece of property. For three years and three contracts and how much money they have been demolishing the power plant. Now they are buying another building to demolish it. Wonder how long it will take to get this demolished and even worse how much money that Peru never has will it take to demolish it. Doesn't anyone ever get tired of paying for this inefficiency?
Also there is going to be a motion to advertise for bids to demolish the pool. Chanlain at one coucil meeting said they do not do pools therefore who is putting the specs together for the demolition of the pool? Before the expense of a total demolition is made does anyone know for sure where the next pool should be located? Peru geographically has changed since 1928 when Veterans Pool was constructed and so has Washington Park. Would Centennial Park or some other location be a better pool site today? If so would it limit the amount of demolition which would have to be done to Veterans Pool?
Modern Peru has become a leader in building because it is the only town known for its ability to build a site in less time than it takes to demolish a site. Now if it could only finish something, or at least finish a project before it starts another.

Wow, compared to the average meeting lately, this agenda is a whopper. Are Rodney and Sherry on vacation :)?

When is Peru going to quit spending my money and raising taxes? This town is terrible! We are in desperate need of new leadership.

Last week's meeting lasted a total of 15 minutes.

It's in the budget for 2013 a Christmas Bonus. Since when should public employees receive a bonus from taxpayers money. Take the money and donation it to the food pantry or some other area organization for the needy.

I don't understand this. Maybe someone could explain. According to the agenda first the council will vote to pay for the deed acquisition for the King's then. Then they will vote to pay the back taxes for the same. Then the lawyer will ask for an ordinance to be passed for the acquisition and demolition of the King's Inn. Shouldn't the ordinance be voted on before action is taken?

Expect alot to be getting done now that the election is right around the corner. I am sure that has been the plan all along!

Cmon. Fight all the wrongs in the Peru government, but the source of the money has nothing to do with rewarding the employees for their work with a small Christmas bonus.
Like many of us in the private sector, they go to work everyday and are human beings too. Not every person who works on behalf of the City takes advantage and sleeps on the job.
Let's keep the focus on the many transgressions of the leadership and change the culture there. I think the new city manager might address the holiday bonus last on the list of reforms.

I agree with 9:58 The city is acting like my lazy ex husband who started 50 projects and left them all for someone else to come along and fix his mess. Drive through Peru and find those 50 projects that make this city look horrible. Now they want to start another? This Mayor and council needs a wake up call.

LOOKS LIKE # 47 CLOSED SESSION COMING ! its like they do more behind doors then at meeting . WTF HARL ? they should video tape these meetings too !!!!!

Anonymous said...

Remember when Harl was first elected and couldn't get any of the alderman to go along with what he wanted?? Well it looks like they're all one happy family now, doing whatever he wants.

Anonymous said...

Yes it appears that the Mayor and aldermen are one big happy family but contrary to your reasoning anon 6:49 I believe the Mayor is doing whatever the council wants and they feed him a donut every now and than to keep him happy. Very similar to Ivan Pavlov ringing a bell every time he feed a dog a bisquit to get the dog to do what he wanted, eventually he just rang the bell, discontinued feeding the dog a bisquit and the dog still performed the task he desired.

I tend to agree with you on that. They do what they want and pretty much run the council meetings, and Mayor Harl thinks they will continue to want him as their mayor as long as he causes no major disruption to their way of doing things. The only people he gets gnarley with are Ald. Perez and Mayszak, the 2 thinkers on the council who choose to work for the people of Peru.

Is the new video equipment we purchased for taping council meetings broke or are we picking and choosing which meetings we publish?

Anonymous said...

I believe the video equipment ordered by the Computer Store was a top end camera that was chosen because it was described as idiot proof. Unfortunately, the manufacturer was talking about a lens filter that will not record idiots, so they having trouble getting many of the people to appear on the recordings. It's like Vampires and mirrors only more technical.

Approved Christmas Bonuses. Does the
City also have a Christmas Party for city Employees? If so, what's this cost us taxpayers and where was or is this party? Curious.

Peru Town Forum said...

Not absolutely sure, but believe they are a thing of the past.

Xmas parties became a thing of the past years ago with a previous recession as did Xmas bonus unless they were covered by a union contract.
Speaking of union contracts what happened in Michigan? Would you believe that Motor City is now in a right to work state? Experts are predicting that within 15 years there will be less than 10 non right to work states. Just proves no matter how big the ballon it will blow up if you put too much hot air in it.
