IL: Crushing debt squeezing out schools, services in Land of Lincoln « Watchdog News

I would hope the state of Illinois is going to take a serious look at the township situation and whether the money some of them are getting could be put to better use than salaries and benefits for a few.

Most employees of major firms have to sign a Code of Ethics to maintain their position as a employee. Does a city official, electected or appointed have to sign a Code of Ethics in Peru. If they do could this code be obtained or published. Knowing that a closed session obligates the attendees to keep secret all information discussed. In other words a closed session could be a channel in which information certain factions of government do not want the citizens to be aware of could be kept from them. Does anyone have a total number of closed sessions that the Peru government has since this current administration has had and how many of the minutes have been opened to the public after six months. The six months being the period of time which they can
be presented to the public.

It is worse now than ever. People have to realize the corruption is still there! "CHANGE"! Yea right, Union Boys.

I wish we had some discussion that would make an impact, you can not get rid of the township, that tax stays whether township is there or the county handles it! Lets try to make some positive change I'd rather see you interview the new candidates then try to change something you can't...like the pickelball or the city employees or the council

Change does not happen overnite but will happen with continued citizen interest and involvement. The mayor and some council members will be determined by the registered voters in April. If they are satisfied with the Peru government as is, they will choose to re elect the current administration and council. If they are not change will happen.
Sometimes legal action has to take place and that may be what will happen with pickleball because there is not other way due to the obstinance of this government.

One of the petitioners in the First Ward will not run and so at this point there are only 2 definite candidates in this ward in which there will be 2 open seats due to redistricting. One is the incumbent.

Is it Rachel Mellon who will not be running?

Yes it is Rachel Mellon who will not be running.

If one is ther incumbent and more do not run against him than the 1st ward deservews what it gets. Too bad the rest of the town has to suffer with the 1st wards sorry smirking representation. Lois, would you please run?

Ferrari will probably get in, cause 1st ward doesn't have anyone to run against him. The bad part about that, is he thinks the people think hes doing a good job. Thats what is really bad. Hes about one of the worst aldermen to come along, in a long time. Oh there are others, but Tony isn't by far the sharpest tack in the box. I guess the first ward will be stuck with him for another term. Sorry!

You don't have to vote for him just because there are two names on the ballot and 2 people running. Just vote for Mueller. Maybe he'd change his ways if nobody voted for him and he only gets in by default.

The only way his mind would be changed would be to make the aldermatic seat non-paying. He is in it for the $5200 per year, and freebies such as the IML Convention, dinners, etc.
It is poor representation of a government official during a council meeting to accuse a citizen of smirking and to continue his agression endlessly. I guarantee you that this same official would not be attending council meetings year after yerar if he was not being paid as the lady has who he verbally attatcked. This same official would not attend a council meeting if he was not getting compensasted for it. If the 1st ward has as little political interest as it is showing it is time to reduce the council to four not increase it to nine.

I do have the expenses for the IML to post but just have been too busy. You will be surprised who spent the most and it was not the first ward. BTW you are not alone in thinking a reduction in council members is a good idea.

Peru , as any competitor will tell you that Peru since the building of the Peru Mall in 1970 has had a hell of a run. A run in which even the closing of Westclox could not completely stop and city leadership reached out and brought several smaller employers into the area. The majority of growth found Peru to be lead by visionaries who established a retail section of miles and miles and in return a unheard of wealth for a town of 10,000 in retail sales tax.
For some reason this progress seems to have come to a halt and all development has stopped even though Peru has the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce, a Economic Development Director, and a private firm employed to promote it. Why is it that this growth has stopped and the answer has to be more than the present economy.
Remember Peru has a junior college which today is a huge draw for industrial and retail growth, and it also has a low pay scale plus a high unemployment rate (over 10%) exists in LaSalle County.
WHY?
Would all those interested in the above please submit their first thoughts to the above and what can be done.

8:35 AM - You're searching for an explanation of the un-explainable.

Do you remember this little ditty?
"It's the Economy stupid".

Perhaps you are one of the folks who said business was down north of the Mall because of the economy. Blaming the economy for every failing is not the way out. People with an entitlement mentality always assume there is an infinite source of money and benefits for them just waiting for the economy to dole out.
In good times and in bad there is (or should be) strategy, planning, and actually competing for opportunities. The poster was mentioning that few opportunities seem to be being presented or even discussed. Too much patting ourselves on the back and congratulating ourselves on our past while we party. Our resources like a regional airport are promoted as a party venue, our shops close up except for the occasional tatoo parlor or pawn shop opening, and large areas of our town lie in brownfield rubble.
Why doesn't Vickrey post here about the plans, or on a website of his own choosing. What is going on that new website? Is is available yet, and is it dealing with new opportunities or simply putting lipstick on a pig?

Thank you 8:35 AM and 12;02PM for two thoughtful comments.
10:28 AM What do you find unexplainable in 8:35's comment and asking "Do you remember this little ditty"? and than answering "Its the economy stupid" makes one wonder about your own ability because 8:35 AM already states that the answer to the stoppage of growth has to be MORE than the present economy. 10:28 AM you are blaming the stoppage of growth on the economy and only the economy.
As for your manners and name calling it would be best to ignore both and continue to invite your comments because in your own infamous way you make others believe in their ability.
