Not All City Councils are the Same

Until last night, I only remember one other time when we went to a city council meeting that was not in Peru and that was in La Salle many years ago. So last night a friend and I decided to visit the La Salle city council meeting because I was told by another friend that the meetings in La Salle and the meetings in Peru were totally different. She was right and it is probably because of people with different personalities holding the same jobs that we have in Peru but managing them in a totally different manner from the Mayor and the dept. heads down to their aldermen. All the people present were welcomed by Mayor Grove and the meeting moved along without any glitches and all seemed knowledgable about their respective departments. We easily found answers to questions we had and I would like to thank those that we talked to for their graciousness in giving us the information that we wanted.

It was nice to be treated with respect and to get answers with graciousness as you stated Lois. As you know I was very impressed when Mayor Grove welcomed everyone and interacted pleasantly with all.

Plenty of houses for sale in Lasalle. I know Peru would be a much nicer place without you. Let us know I'm sure you would even get some volunteers to help load the moving truck.

I also plan on visiting other city council meetings in surrounding towns, La Salle was the closest. I am always looking for answers and maybe someone else is doing something that would improve our city. It is always good to have an open mind. Since you apparently don't like me, I don't suppose you will even be reading my comment.
I can tell your attitude is what comes from believing that Peru is and always has been the leader of the valley. Working together is the answer and not turning your nose up at other people and places.

See ANON 12:18 It's attitudes like that that turn people away from Peru. You don't have to agree with peoples thoughts and ideas but is it necessary to be arrogant and snobbish? It's that holier and better than thou attitude that people have gotten from thinking they're the leader of the valley. We are all equal and no one from any town is better than their neighbor.

Don't blog much, but 12:18 was very rude. I have not always been happy with Peru politics in the past, but I hope the blog reading public doesn't believe that 12:18 is indicative of the Peru population. Shame on you 12:18.

Linda and Lois, Thank you for exploring the different governments of the area. I hope you both intend to come back to the Peru Council with the better features of each. This is a proven method of accomplishing good things the easy way and I hope your findings are accepted. Many years ago when I lived in a different city I can remember the outstanding leaders and organizers in youth activities traveling all over and coming back with the best of each city for guidelines. IT WORKED!
Possibly there should be a expense account established by the city to compensate you both and others who donate their time to improve Peru. Maybe interested citizens could eliminate the aldermens trips to IML meetings which no reports are ever brought back or discussed at council meetings. Possibly the IVAC who Peru pays $13,200 per year to be a member of could help out or the $35,000 years budget for promotional expenses could spare gas and spam sandwich expenses.
ALL, please remember this is only a suggestion. Linda and Lois have asked for no compensation and never have.

What do you know.
Finally, Lois and Linda listened to those of us that have stated that the city of La Salle is run by a mayor and city council that get along and ACT on behave of the people.
NOT like PERU, WHO A MAYOR HARL WANTS TO GAIN POWER AND SHAFT THE PEOPLE of the CITY.

It is a breath of fresh air to participate in the La Salle city council. They have a very smart Mayor Grove and friendly attitude towards people.
Looks like Lois and Linda FINALLY SEE THE DIFFERENCE.

We need to Change the current Mayor of Peru so to move our city forward to the better and not go down the road of dis-struction.

10:50 I don't know what you're talking about when you state that Lois and I "listened to those of us, etc." Lois asked me if I'd like to attend a meeting with her and I was curious how other governments ran their meetings so I agreed. Yes, I was impressed with friendliness extended by the mayor to everyone there and to the friendliness and approachability of the town leaders.

Before anyone starts saying Peru lost the $2.5 million grant please realize that it did not lose it because you cannot lose something you never had. What has been gained is the information that there is now a position at City Hall titled Peru Administrative Assistant. Peru could not have a city engineer because a alderman claimed there was no ordinance for the position but it can have a Administrative Assistant which would demand more in compensation than a clerk tile would. Although the responsibilities of the job are that of a clerk and should be compensated as such and titled as such.

I thought the mayor said he cut his department (administration) 100%? How can he have an administrative assistant?

For those of you that didn't catch it, my post at 12:18 was a shot at sarcasm. I posted because you made it sound like Peru is a nasty black hole of a place and Lasalle is like Mayberry. The sun always shines, the sky is always blue, the birds always sing, everybody gives a big hug as they pass on the street. I'm not saying Peru is a perfect place with no problems, what I was saying was that Lasalle has plenty of it's own problems. My thought was if I found a job with better pay, better boss, better benefits, better co-workers, better working conditions, I would be a fool not to take it right? So if in your mind Lasalle has a better mayor, better council, better fire dept, better ambulance, better police dept, better public service than why would you not choose to live there?

I know this may be a foregin thought to most people that read this blog, but some people in Peru actually like the way things are going and think the council ais doing the best job they can with what they have.

I was born and raised and Peru and have never lived elsewhere except for a few months when our home was being built when I did live in La Salle.
Considering all of that I believe that I have a very good view of how this city has and continues to function through the good and the bad.
Most people that live in Peru really are not interested in saying my town of Peru is better than La Salle and you could turn that round that the people in La Salle really are not interested in saying we are better. They recently chose to put signs in their yard saying "I Believe in LaSalle". They did not say we are better than Peru. On the other hand for more years than I can remember we had signs coming into Peru saying "Peru, Leader of the Valley". Now you tell me that was not a poke in the face of every other city in the area. It was arrogance at its best and I was truly embarassed at that time to live in a city that spouted that.
The cities are not even separated by one inch of space, we are side by side and we should respect each other and work together and be proud of the fact that we are both big enough to accept that fact. We share a high school, a hospital and Airport/Chartres road and don't require passports to go from one town to the other.
La Salle has problems and so does Peru.
