This blog is maintained for the sole purpose of allowing the people of Peru and those interested in the cities of the Illinois Valley to express their views.
“It doesn’t take a majority to win, just a tireless minority that will keep starting brush fires in the mind and hearts of their fellow men.” Samuel Adams
Mayor Harl has been told by so many that the streets are the biggest problem in the city and he is rather impatient to correct that issue and that is the hurry. We may be dismayed at the condition of our streets but as far as I know most of us are not in a hurry to have repairs done to North Peru. After Rte 6 was so nicely repaired by the state, we seem to be less concerned about the condition of our roads. I was not in favor of imposing the increased sales tax and I am not in favor of rushing into something that we can not afford at this time. Be patient and study the issue and the finances and then when sure of both start the project.
The best way is to go to the city of Peru web site which is http://www.peru.il.us and locate the minutes of their first meeting. It is called the Infrastructure Committee. There you will find all the member names and what was discussed at the first meeting. In fact if my friend Steve is reading maybe he will post more information for you.
I thought an agenda had to be posted as you have 4 aldermen and the mayor on it? Isn't that what the mayor himself had stated when he proposed this committee?
10:37 you don't know what your talking about. You can't fix roads when it gets down to a certain temp. The Mayor is thinking about next years calendar. You have to be ready to get a contractor to do the job. You don't wait till the last minute. Wake up and smell the coffee.
9:35, wake up and smell the sarcasm. You mean to tell me that you have to do engineering, get drawings, put those drawings out to bid, award a contract, get your picture in the paper, wait for the batch plant to open, and then start a project? Starbucks called your latte is done.
Yes we should be thankful for the impressive group that has been chosen. Now they will need to make sure that they are not swayed away from what they believe is right.

Lois, it seems that the committee has the right thought process. I do not understand the Mayor's rush.

Who is on the committee, and how do you get invited to the committee's meeting?

He is in a hurry to get his union cronies back to work. I don't think getting people back to work is a bad thing though, do you?

perhaps the last comment would be better served for the mayor and his hand picked group?
