Peru and Oglesby OK Expenditures to Further the Combined Police Station
http://www.newstrib.com/free/peru-oks-police-committee-spending/article_8b53795a-2156-11e8-9bdc-e3bc08daf541.html
Supposedly this is a payment toward Legal Expeditures of the venture being floated of a combined police force for the entire Illinois Valley of La Salle, Peru, Oglesby and Spring Valley. At this point it seems that people posting to the blog have more questions than answers about the possibility of building a combined force with the prevailing opinion that the building will be located in Peru.
Will the legal team be looking into all local ordinances to see if all cities have the same rules created? On something this serious, I believe a Public Referendum needs to be held within each of the cities because if you don't have the people backing your venture, you will have problems with an area that is already losing population.

Where is the call from the public for a "BINDING REFERENDUM"?
Those two words are the last thing Peru's self-important Big-Shots want to hear. They know it would never pass. That's why the Peru council will never do it on their own. They cringe at the idea of allowing the people to decide if they should pursue a combined police force and a Taj Majal of a public safety facility.
Say it with me........BINDING REFERENDUM! BINDING REFERENDUM!
So what you are saying is that even if this shared facility doesn't work out, Peru should not build an up to date police station.
Can you say safety risk.

Please describe the difference between a fully equipped police station of the 70's to a up to date police station? Both basically are the same as each other besides a few bells and whistles. As for the dispatchers they are supposed to relocate to IVCC. Realistically the present existence of having a local station in each city is quicker, stronger, faster than having one centralized station 10 minutes and 8 miles away.
Safety risk can and should be greatly reduced by proper and updated safety training of staff rather than the misconceived notion of new ceilings, walls and floors. Also any lead supervisor worth a grain of salt will have equipped his facility with the most modern and state of art technology and equipment to achieve a everyday maximum performance and safety of his fellow officers.
Once again as asked, in the 1st open meeting of the local police forces coordinated effort, by a local citizen where is the representation for the people who are going to have to pay the toll? Recently the answers he received have become the local fodder of the citizens of Spring Valley, Oglesby, LaSalle and Peru. Still, only elected and appointed city officials comprise the board of 16 that has of yet to ask or answer the thought of the citizen! Their closest reciprocal communication was to ask and receive our money to hire a law firm. For WHY and WHAT they nor we nor the city councils which gave their approvals know. Truthfully they are nowhere near enough along to need legal aid if some know the proper channels to contact for necessary background and knowledge! What they do need is a seasoned officer for initial if not long lasting leadership. Why has Peru flattened all land on the block except the gas station that its present police station is on? This is the worst, most congested street corner in town for a police station.
With the usage of modern stop and go, and over ride lighting systems to create access and egress to the highway the former Eagles Grocery Store behind CVS is a already built large building which will always be of enough size for all police accommodations and it is ideally located for the future.
The building is owned by the Economic Director of Ottawa, Il.
Well said 7:43 March 6th. A new building does not make for a better and more efficient police force.

I would appreciate how each individual city council member voted in regards to the $7,000 to be given to attorneys for the combined police campaign. The promised savings are so far out that my children's children will never see
any of that money if there is any.
Preferences of the majority is that the plan has merit and now that it has been resurrected from the archives of Peru history over 30 years ago and most recently by a life long law official of state stature it should be tweeted and thoroughly presented to the public.
As already expressed the leadership should be obtained from qualified, experienced out of area sources who have no area, location or personal, preferences. This is the one way that this outstanding concept stands a opportunity to succeed. It would be no more than a waste of time and money to make this a selfish individual or city location gain.

Please do not be as personally offended as you appear. The owner of this blog has at times deleted my comments ( more than once ). Upon rethinking my deleted comments I am glad she did so. My comments which were deleted made no sense what so ever and their only purpose was to vent. She did her job to a high degree. If some others would perform at her level the blog would be a happy thing .
Thank you Lois
I was not venting just clarifying a point. That I'm sure you or your other people didn't want to hear.

2:07 PM Go men a si! From above how could anyone get the feeling you were venting? Have a pleasant afternoon and don't hang yourself out to dry for the rest of the week! It is too cold.
How much would a referendum cost? This seems to be the only way for Peru, Il. citizenship to become involved in making a decision about a combined police force. As the unknown number of meetings held before the first publically announced meeting becomes larger and larger certain board members methods appear to be to shove their way down the throats of the citizens.
Make no mistake about it there is much more to be revealed by the pushers of this program.
Has anyone asked the present police officers of their opinion or are they also being considered to be at their best when not heard from for any ideas by their immediate chiefs.
This program has huge possibilities with a certain amount of fine tuning but to succeed some of the present leadership who do not stay in proper position in the chain of command must step aside.
Another water main break on Water Street this morning. Also, the paper didn't say but I wonder if the semi that dumped the fertilizer throughout Peru was ticketed. Mr. King did state in the paper that he was traveling on a route that was not marked as a truck route and the city council did just increase the fines for that violation.
11:12 AM - The answer to your question is NO if the offending truck was a Michelini vehicle. I suspect it was because King would have made a huge deal of the situation if it wasn't a connected person.
