Sunrise Rotary just had a presentation on this. Am very impressed with what they are looking onto doing.

May I ask who gave the presentation?

Oglesby Chief and LaSalle finance diretor

10PM During the Sunrise Rotary presentation what parts impressed you? Did you believe that they have a well defined final plan or that they are in a panic to accomplish everything immediately for some unknown reason? The committee which came to a recent meeting and was to have potential locations picked out was totally unprepared and not one of the four chiefs had any suggestions. If this was a well rehearsed ploy in attempt to pull themselves out of the continuous cow pies which they themselves have created and stepped in it is not succeeding. Presently the only thing keeping this group above the water has been a lack of numbers present physically. Once more come to witness this display of misinformation this idea Unfortunely will be silently put to rest for another round of years. Reason being a good idea presented by the wrong people for all the self gain which can be accumulated. Being that the Oglesby Chief and the LaSalle Finance Director gave the presentation and you were impressed with what they are looking into doing would you access their backgrounds to see that they are not qualified to presently occupy their present positions as well as to personally upgrade themselves into unknown disciplines.

852 you should be ashamed of yourself. you clearly have an agenda!

Sounds like you are being a bully! With all the national attention upon the bullies among us, we see that it is more than children being bullied or at least attempts are made to act like one. It appears that many have an agenda on this committee or we would not be spending taxpayer dollars on something that might not be beneficial to the communities involved. The cities don't have a long history of getting along together. btw, sounds like you have an agenda too?

Finally it looks like the committees are going to have mtgs at times that will allow working men and women to attend them. Actually 7 PM would be better than 6:30 PM.

What is your present chronological age? Are you aware that the payback for the co-operative chief's of police program is projected to start ASAP (2018) or sooner and financially in 60 years we will get some money from it? How old will you be in 60 years? Several years ago Rochelle offered to share a program with Peru erecting windmills to produce electricity, than Electrical Superintendent James Pothoff stated that windmills took 18 years to produce any money. Peru refused the offer. Now Peru's AWS Bernabei wants to invest in a 60 year program before any money is produced? Why would a program be refused when one that takes 3.3 times longer to produce a rate of return be accepted?
Instead of having gov't police maybe it is time to explore the possibility of hiring private police and fire protection for Peru.

11:46 Your not informed. The payback of the millions is over a period of time. You will have hundreds of thousands each and every year, to get to the estimate of $250,000,000 it will take some time. I did read the papers and followed the story, and believe me it wasn't that hard to understand. A private police and fire has worked where?

if we ever get a mayor with a brain this problem might be solved.

11:46 AM Didn't the initial reporting indicate that there would not be any financial benefit for 60 years? We have not heard of a private police force anywhere because this was not a topic to be discussed. Early on I believe that Bernabei said there have been discussions about combining police in the suburban area but they were never able to reach a consensus and all cities still retain their own police force in their own city. Before a whole lot more money is spent by all the cities, this should go to a referendum in all cities that are included in the plan.It would be an awful happening after huge expenditures that the only thing that would have happened is a new police station located in Peru.

Yes, the initial reporting did indicate that it would take 60 years for any financial benefit. The Tribune has been bewildered to the same extent as everyone else as to what the goal of the Peru Super Cop truly is. Possibly the citizenship would have a much better understanding of this project if it didn't start off with a extensive amount of executive meetings before having a open public meeting. 3:11 PM reading a poorly informed source and following its story is not a means of coming to a conclusion of any worth. Attend the meetings and than see if your ideas stay the same or change. Maybe you are already attending as a committee member.
A co-operative police department has worked where?

Why would anyone assume that suddenly at year 60 the cities will save $250,000,000? Its savings over the period of 50 years!

Cooperatives ventures are the tax payers way of saving the future or having continued property tax increases may be your choice.

The concept is simple........look at the community as one larger city and operate it as that. You got a population base of about 30,000 and operate that with by combination of resources.

So many love the same old way, don't change and wonder what's gone wrong. Many of us prefer not to pay the high taxes and need to remodel.

Your comment means that we should be operating at least LaSalle and Peru as one city and see how that works before we combine the departments that deal with the safety of the residents. Is that what you mean? Why would we operate a police department with cities that only tolerate each other?

Isn't it always we scream safety when we has no other reasonable argument on why the idea won't work? Why would safety be a problem with combination of police services? Safety would be maximized in this situation.

Because we have people who want to be led no matter what the proposal and we have people who smell this fact and want to make big money from the odor whether it is positive or negative. Presently it would be best to hire a experienced co-operative police department leader outside of the inner circle and let it up to her/him to run the flavor of the year. We have already seen what the inner circle could accomplish with the limited city administer question. Honestly that was a committee organized to determine nothing more than hire "ME" or hire no one. "ME" was not qualified to be a city manager so the logical next question was never asked. The citizens elected a good man for Mayor but his appointments have become too heavy too carry for too many years.

A good Mayor would not have set up Bernabei to be our acting City Manager and Jeff King in control of the Public Works Department.

This goes back to the Sean Mikos and Mayor Harl debacle where hands were in the cookie jar and the then SPW Mikos wanted no part in being involved in writing this off.

So the Mayor put people in charge of the city with ample salaries who were not qualified but would never tell about anything going on that the Mayor wanted behind the screen. This has become a very tight knit group approved of by the City Council. Notice how all new employees are already part of the family through friends, family or neighbors. It will remain so until we vote in responsible new people who want what is best for this city not about their own political future.

I cannot imagine that everyone living in this city has not figured this out and seen the light of it all. Lots of you are upset about the over priced Splash Pad that maybe can be used a couple of months a year, a very expensive desire to have a new Police Building and a total lack of a feeling of community in this city of Peru. They have thrown out a crumb by announcing Fireworks would return to Water Street but not what the planned arrangement will be and with the same company that produced last years simple program.

Of all the cities included in the Police committee, Peru has the most expensive building program around like the Splash Pad. and magnificent Public Works bldg for a city of under 10,000 population.

Why would anyone build a new police station in Oglesby -- Away from the majority of the population and traffic?

Peru Town Forum said...

7:53 AM

I don't know that anyone ever mentioned a new station in Oglesby. All I can say is that that is up to the residents of Oglesby. If they have enough money and vote to build a new bldg., they should have it. Each city should independently be able to provide police the facility they want them to have to provide safety for their own city. And if they want to be policed by someone else, this should also be put to a vote and not decided by a few residents in elected positions.

Did you know?

CVS is now listed as the owner of the strip mall adjacent to their Pharmacy Drug Store. Perhaps the Peru Police Committee is interested in this property? Perhaps they are interested in tearing down a house in Peru for their new police station?

How about the old bread shop on 5th street presently owned by a attorney of Peru? The recent ambulance - car accident must be considered in this choose. Now that S.V. has dropped out LaSalle is the city in geographical balance and the LaSalle Chief is a full time police officer. The Peru COP is arriving with a list of full time occupations with no room for more.

Or the land on which PVAS is located, are the other businesses renters or owners. The little food place on the corner and the tree service and if so who owns that land?
