Four Illinois House Members Break Taxpayer Protection Pledge With Vote In Favor 32% Income Tax Hike

Four Illinois House Members Break Taxpayer Protection Pledge With Vote In Favor 32% Income Tax Hike

Will Peru lose people and business because of this tax increase? We now have over 100 properties for sale here in Peru according to Zillow, will this encourage more to leave the area?

That is not an accurate depiction of people moving out of the area. I recently moved from one house in Peru to another. My house was listed. The owner we bought from moved into a rental, still in Peru. Peru housing market is doing very well. Lots of homes are being built. Not many empty lots available. If people leave, they are probably going to leave the state.

I really don't understand why YOU still live here if you think it is so bad. Find somewhere to go where everything is perfect and there are no problems at all. Good luck with that.

Why the focus on Peru? The State of Illinois is the culprit of the tax increase. You have advantages in Peru with the low real estate taxes and the low cost of living. The State and the income tax increase is a plan for failure. One important point about Illinois is that retirement is not taxed from the State of Illinois. You may soon have a State of retired people living here with the only jobs being in healthcare, retail and service.
I never understood why this negative narrative continues with Peru? There has never been anything positive on this site about Peru or the current officials. is there somewhere else some of you want to live? And why?

1. This link you sent is from a propaganda website.

2. If you know anything about Peru's housing market, you will know that homes are selling like crazy. and on the higher end people are getting above asking price. Pick any realtor and ask them. Ask any banker. Observe the multiple holes being dug on the west side of town.

3. Illinois still has a lower income tax rate than Wisconsin and Iowa. Not even close. This nonsense that people are going to run to a state with higher taxes is ridiculous. What people are running from is political dysfunction and hopefully this will end that nonsense.

4. Before you attack me I consider myself a political conservative. Say what you want about taxes and Illinois politics (drives me crazy too) but implying that somehow Peru's housing market is struggling because there are a lot of homes for sale is not a good demonstration of your grasp of our local economy.

Can someone please tell me why the standstill on the splash pad project? Are we waiting for someone or something? The land is becoming overrode with weeds because it's been sitting so long without any activity.

Sears in Peru is closing.

Rumor has it there's no need to panic about Peru losing more sales tax. Apparently our economic developer has some contingency plan on the back burner .

Have you checked out our downtown planters that I think cost us over $8,000 to be professionally planted? In my opinion we got cheated. They're not consistent and how do you feel about those big plants that get uglier as they get bigger? Some of them are very pretty and others are in my opinion very ugly. How do you feel?

The splash pad was a political stunt by Harl. It'll sit like that for awhile now that he was reelected. Only started real fast because he was afraid if Rodney was elected , it would've been halted to redo plans to make more affordable.

Why is it that anytime a true hearted Peruvian expresses a positive and/or negative comment pertaining to our outstanding city there are always those who answer with the invitation to move?

Strong indications are that these residents are without a reasonable answer, that they themselves are gaining by a negative condition that others are suffering from or they are scared of changes which would benefit others. Possibly they themselves are against any and all change. Never the less those who share their ideas know that the majority of change is how everything improves.

Pretty sure the splash pad is on track to be completed this fall and opened next spring. You just do not understand what construction is like and that sometimes things take time and there are reasons for waits.

9:05 there was a delay with some materials for the splash pad, so it will start again soon. No conspiracies so stop with your sick lies.

9:21 Peru is not losing sales tax. Peru is collecting another record in sales tax (feel free to check the number at the Illinois Department of Revenue). The sales tax from Sears long ago moved to other businesses within Peru, including the big hardware stores. It is amazing that the Peru Sears stayed open when thousands across the country long ago closed.

The continued hatred of our city by a few disenfranchised people is sad.

When is the next election?

9:03 First of all 9:21 did not say that Peru was losing sales tax however, how can you say that they won't be losing some with 2 of their 3 major retailers leaving town? Any time any retail store closes you're losing jobs and sales tax. It's a fact!

Sales, Sales, Sales. With the ease of never leaving the internet the computer has created a dominant market which erases the old style thought that what Sears loses the local big box stores gain and employment and retail sales tax stay balanced.
As long as local residents shop out of town and on the internet they will find property taxes increasing. The money has to come from somewhere.
In regards to lost jobs, no business can afford to hire without a proven need.
What can you, I and all others do to improve the Illinois Valley?
Communication with local store managers and inform them that the store is overstocked, impossible to move in because of too many racks leaving no isle space, and stock is outdated. They must realize that because we area blue collar and farming community that we demand more than work clothes for our leisure time.
With updated stores that have chairs throughout and a leisure center in the middle and a available staff of knowledgeable employees plus changing advertising they will continue to exist in our area.
Do you know of any type of business that our area is not providing?
Please enter your own suggestions!

Presently when all aspects are considered the Peru Mall should be demolished and a updated Peru retail area should be created. It appears that Dick Janko was on target with a modern 10 site movie theatre. I think it is a issue worth revisiting with him by Peru City Officials

Oh, sure, work with Janko on multimillion projects and watch how he dumps you like he did with St. Bede.

11:50 AM You are on target! The mall is no more than a overstocked, outdated structure without customer friendly charm. Peru shopping needs to be updated immediately as it already years behind. Peru suffers with its news paper advertising director as he is not the fit for city development. Peru should employ representation with a experienced background or contact a university to bring in professors with aspiring students to determine Peru's needs for nothing or very little money.
