November unemployment rises for most Illinois counties - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

November unemployment rises for most Illinois counties - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

And the answer to the problem is??

We now are involved in more economic development groups in which many La Salle cities are  footing the bill? As stated in this news bit, are we just feeding the people involved in this while gaining little if anything for the people paying the bill?

Unemployment increased in 12 metropolitan areas and Illinois has had a extremely low employment growth rate this past year. Out of 102 counties in Illinois 96 remain below their pre recession 2007 peak employment levels.
This has occurred during 2 Presidential elections and lowest of interest rates plus a high debt to China what is in the future for the U.S.A.

Anon 9:53 PM Since we are the youngster of established nations but the super power and leader of all others we appear to be very strong but in comparison to many others we are still to be proven.
We as citizens of a free country have to be force fed of political conditions and our numbers are horrible in % of numbers who vote. The numbers of organization to donate to are tremendous but what are the numbers who participate in taking causes to eliminate most of these organizations. How much of the $ goes to the intended purpose and does the money stay home?
World Wide we are just as guilty of ignorance in our distribution to the needy. No matter if it is finances or food to feed the starving the product ends up in the hands of the foreign rich sold to the poor when the rich are full.
As the policeman of the world sadly it is always our troops in defence of the persecuted . Very few from the United Nations or other established nations partake. By now we realize that it is a impossible to defend our own shores 100% from terrorists. I don't understand national politicians who want to admit foreigners inside our boarders who have no records of themselves from their own country. As much as I want these people to be treated fairly I do not this fairness to jeopardize our already citizen.
We have been proudly known as the melting pot of the world but as times change we must change. What are the changes, if any, do you feel should be made?

Who is going to go shopping in Peru 20 years from now?

Anonymous said...

It does not matter what will happen 20 years from now. Bobby V. and Boss Harl will be retired. They don't care about the future. Only keeping cronies happy in the present.

What possess' someone to enter a comment which is negative and not related to the topic? The road to success is not paved with people throwing bricks.

Anonymous said...

5:43. Both statements are true. 8:40 is concerned that the lack of work being put into attracting actual jobs producing development will result in a continued and drastic population decrease for the Illinois Valley - therefore, the retail developments in Peru will suffer and decline.

The 10:37 comment is simply stating that Bob V. and Mayor Harl are suffer from short term thinking. As the population decreases, retail will dry up. There is only so much "market" available for the current retailers to "share." They need to concentrate on increasing the size of the market, not crating more ways to slice the pie. To do this, we need viable, long term industrial development. They need to get the county on board and incentivize development of agricultural land as well as working with the state to reform workers comp and forced unionization.

5:43 The negative attitude from a few pen pals is not explainable to any reasonable residents. You have a % of those who believe any conspiracy event. Those same individuals will attempt to discredit those that are elected to public office. They believe that if they create conspiracy, they will look good for there chosen candidate or themselves. I for one like to verify all public official decisions on items important to me. I call my representative and listen and verify the facts. Fortunately, my Alderman tells me the pros and cons of those votes I feel are important. I do believe Peru is going in the right direction and has been successful for some time. I also note those who continue to spread negative viewpoints and no solutions as people to be careful of when going into the voting box. My comment is A FEW BAD APPLES CAN RUIN A BATCH.

Anonymous said...

10:14 AM, Very funny. I especially enjoyed the part about the alderman telling you the "pros and cons" of votes you feel important. If you choose to fall in line and do just as your told by any Peru elected official without opening your eyes to the facts then that's on you. If you expect intelligent citizens to accept the status quo propaganda put out by Peru officials without "thinking" you can forget about it. You go ahead and suck it up and kiss their butts if that makes you feel "connected". You are obviously an easy mark for your alderman's "cons". Many of us are not. There are many Peru conspiracies that have come and gone. Some have been untrue and some that were accurately described on this blog have become common knowledge. With your comment you conspire to convince people that you communicate with and receive honest and accurate information from a Peru alderman. In my opinion you are perpetuating an untruth. You are putting forth a "conspiracy" suggesting Peru elected officials are capable and honest. Based on my knowledge and first hand experience I know better.

7:50 Increasing the size of the market is what Peru has done in retail for many years, the shopping area serves the entire Illinois Valley area. With that said comes the dilemma is how to increase the Illinois Valley area? That won't come easy and involves not only the State but the Federal level. Giving tax breaks to are friends overseas won't create jobs. Incentives for agricultural are already in place, the problem is that other countries realize the importance of home grown food and feeding their population base. I do think that the US market is a bit more than Vickery, Harl or you can change overnight. And we do agree that the profound statement of you need residents to buy products is true in every way. What can you do from a small town market is promote your advantages.

Anonymous said...

10:59 Were not connected nor do I care what you think about your representation. I do care about things that effect me and don't kiss anyone's butt. In fact I don't agree with everything at city hall. I don't agree with concrete roads, they are too costly. I don't agree with the staff promotions. I do agree that the effort in keeping taxes low is worthwhile. I don't agree that all Peru officials are dishonest and not capable. I know better than your blanket statement suggesting that as fact. And I know that I like the town I live in and we can always do more. I don't like some of the elected officials but don't believe that they are all dishonest. You may feel disconnected or had a personal vendetta against them. That is your right. And if you want to continue the conspiracies please give me some actual facts to collaborate your statements. Its time to be positive.

Just finished looking at the disbursements dated 12/30/15 on the city website. It really is eye opening when you take your time looking at all the unnecessary spending that goes on each and every month in Peru. So much waste and Peru's elected officials not batting an eye about it. Credit card charges for holiday dinner at Mark Allen's for Zoning Board? Dinner tabs for the Heroin council after that meeting they had at L-P? An average monthly payment of at least $1,500 for Nick's Emergency Lighting for putting lights on any city vehicle that sits still long enough to run up a bill on? Vickrey charging office supplies to the taxpayers? Vickrey charging his cellular phone bill to Peru taxpayers? Harl charging hundreds monthly for travel expenses while he plays the role of Mayor Bigshot on the taxpayer's dime? At least several thousand dollars for Christmas lights and decorations. Tens of thousands over the past few months in office furniture and computers for all the newly appointed city employees and all the assistants? No checks and balances. Not a peep from a single elected official about reigning in spending. I think they actually see the orgy of spending as an economic stimulus. They operate under the theory that feeding big government is a way of stimulating the local economy. But, more importantly Harl is developing and maintaining a contiuously growing voting bloc of employees and vendors who will be inclined to keep the phony Peru officials in power. It really is quite dishonest and extremely disgusting. Are there no honorable people to run for office in the city of Peru? I'm searching and hoping for an honest man or woman to step up to stop the carnage and corruption. They ran Rodney Perez out of office for being an honest man who questioned the corruption. Payton has done nothing but fall in line with the systematic corruption and waste. Ethical behavior is non-existent in Peru. Very sad!

"Increasing the size of the market is what Peru has done." - No, Peru has not done this. Peru has succeeded in concentrating the market in one location. That is good - but there are only so many dollars to chaise in the Illinois Valley. The overall market is shrinking with the population, stagnant wages, and overall high taxation. Taxation meaning the region in general.

"Incentives for agricultural are already in place." - I did not mean that. I meant to incentivize the development of land currently used for agriculture. Allow this land to be used for industrial purposes with the same low taxation that exists for farming.

"Giving tax breaks to are friends overseas won't create jobs." True, and our newspaper gives more coverage to a the exploits of "old money" trying to get other people to pay for the "renovation" of a rat trap in LaSalle, involving a schemes for foreign investors to purchase access to the United States.

"Importance of home grown food and feeding their population base." - it has been many years since the majority of farming in LaSalle County Illinois has produced food. They are incentivized by the government to produce corn, which is sold at an artificial price to produce Ethanol to add to gasoline and sold to customers that would not purchase it without being forced to by the law.

The single most important thing the government could do to increase economic activity in LaSalle County, Illinois would be to remove the Ethanol Mandate. This would drive land values to realistic point and allow it to be used for industrial purposes. Next, remove tax advantages on farm land that is NOT used to produce actual food. If the land is used for Ethanol - it should be taxed on its actual value. Then, remove all laws that promote forced unionization. Finally, repeal all current laws regarding workers compensation and start over again. Do not allow the Trial Lawyers Association any input into workers compensation or any other form of civil litigation.

1:32- Rodney moved to spring valley. I don't think the city council ran him out of town.

If you are a reader of this blog you have to wonder. Is Peru as corrupt as a few viewpoints? What have they done to 1:32? Why does this individual constantly question the integrity of the Mayor and all others? What event transpired that has made 1:32 so angry? I have lived in the town for a few years and know most of those that work or are elected in Peru. What is this about? What score does this individual want to settle?

Anonymous said...

1:32 Speaking of disbursements what about the $75 for shirt embroidery for William Payton? And the $745 at the Maples for Misc. firefighters holiday dinner? As you stated you have to almost read things line by line to pick out what I consider unnecessary spending of tax payer money. And yes, you're right about Nick's Emergency Lighting and don't forget the monthly charges to Debos by each and every department for "misc. supplies".

Anonymous said...

The farmers are holding us back. We need to do something to allow land to be used for something besides growing corn.

Who owns the land? I do believe that in America it is the owners privilege to do what he wants with his own possessions. If a government body decides it is a necessity to acquire property they can utilize Eminent Domain. Unlike TIF's Eminent Domain has been used seldom, or should I write like Eminent Domain TIF's should be used very seldom.

12:30 PM On some points we agree and on others we disagree, and on some points you will be correct on others I will be correct. I do believe that much used streets such as Peoria should be concrete as opposed to blacktop. Reason being that the life of a concrete road outlasts blacktop by a greater life span which creates a long term result of concrete being much cheaper than the initial lower cost of blacktop.
Overall your comment should be a role model of expression as you openly express yourself with facts but do not literally body slam those you are discussing.

Is William Payton the recently elected alderman? If he is I do not find anything unusual as this same question was brought up before when all aldermen of the previous council had the same charge/ embroidered shirt. 3:51 PM my personal feeling is that you are already aware of this. I do not know what the practice of other cities is but I know that those little expenses add big results when attending seminars, conferences and private city business discussions.
Please bear with me as I also want payback for money spent, but we all must admit that the game is in continuous change and those who adapt best win biggest.

Anonymous said...

To those that have interest in expenses of Peru government it would be best to contact your alderman and/or attend council meetings to verbalize them during public comment? To be frank although bloggers consider the blog to be a great tool Peru City Officials do not and do not acknowledge it! This practice is working for them as most people will not attend council meetings. Some meetings 4 or 5 attend out of a town of 6,000 adults. At that %age we are lucky to get 8 alderman and a Mayor.

3:15, it is not just Peru. Every city government in the local area has some degree of corruption and "good old boy" activities. That is how things are in Illinois - people don't get into office out of the goodness of their heart. They get something in return. You can't track it. You will never prove it. But it happens. Lots of back scratching going on.

Things that make you wonder.....

Timothy McAnarney Consultant, $300
Fulmer's BP Amoco, $300
Chamlin & Associates, $400
Illinois Valley Federation of Labor, PAC, $500

just a few line items from Boss Harl's political fund.

Anonymous said...

3:51, so we aren't supposed to go to Debo's for supply's now, It takes a lot to run a city

Anonymous said...

3:51 were glad your reading the city disbursements. Meals for a once a year dinner for volunteer firefighters, members of the many zoning and other boards is perfectly acceptable. Those serve a very important volunteer position within the city and a once a year meal is the least we could do. I would be upset if the dinners were for elected officials on the taxpayer tabs.

I would think that Debos would be the closet place for parts. And its' probably good to give a local store the business.

I have been informed that Nick's lighting does all the work on cars and fire apparel. I am sure that this was cost effective and both administrators have done comparable cost with those items.

1:32 your opinion on a former official is just that. He was not reelected and we move on. As far as your suggestion that your Mayor buys votes? That can be debated. He may have helped some get elected to office and he may have failed with others. That's how politics works. You can't be naïve to believe that everybody is brought, voters have more and more information (some truths and some lies) at their disposal and vote accordingly. As a onlooker from the sidelines I appreciate your energy.

Anonymous said...

3:15 PM, Well, you ask many questions about the comment by 1:32 pm without any consideration that the answers for all your questions probably lies within the comment from 1:32 pm. Why do you and other apologists for Peru-style corruption just look past the facts of waste, patronage, and corruption pointed out by some of these comments and dismiss them as just a personal vendetta? READ THE COMMENT. IT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. Not a personal vendetta, a factual listing of wasteful spending and political corrution. Don't try to muddy the waters and distract from the facts with claims of a personal attack.

10:59 the reason you feel that you can't get an honest answer from an Alderman is you no matter what they say, you will deem it false.
here is an example the disbursement for Alderman Payton for the embroidery was for his shirts that he paid for and the city had embroidery done. Now you will say that is wrong, but I know this is true, because he said watch the blog go nuts over this.
I would also have to guess that if your Alderman told you that the sky is blue you would say no it is red. People like you have no life and always look for the worst in every situation. If you worked for me, with this type of attitude you would be gone now!!!!!
Get a grip and do something productive.

1:32 Rodney did not move to the Spring Valley and the city council doesn't care what he does. He got beat because he was in over his head and was a puppet to the people on this blog.

9:59 Nobody is making any apologies for Peru government. We just want facts of your many notes about Peru officials. Again give us details not Harl's legal fundraising donors. Give us something to call the Ag office, FBI. You continue to make statements backed by nothing. Without any facts we call it your vendetta. Just asking why, who, what and when.

Anonymous said...

rodney did not move to spring valley. perez for mayor 2017. he is an honest family man who will work for the people. he has my vote.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone said anything is illegal. That is how it is done. If you expect to be reelected, you make sure the city buys stuff from the local stores. Throughout the history of the Illinois Valley, going all the way back to the 1830's - the most powerful people in the area never served a day in public office. They got other flunkies to do that and funnel public money to their enterprises.

Anonymous said...

As far as purchasing from Debo's nobody said we shouldn't. Yes we should support local businesses but Debo's is not the only local business. Also, the point was that each and every department within the city seems to shop there on a regular basis. Maybe we could think about adding a warehouse to the new public works building and buy in bulk and save money and time.

With regards to Nick's lighting can't our mechanics do the work he does?

Anonymous said...

How do u define honesty? I define it as every facet of your life, you can't be a honest politician if your dishonest with your personal life. And you can't be honest in your political life and have it carry over to personal life. It's a trait and there is only one true judge of that, its the life they lead. 1:32 your comments have little factual information to make a judgment. And your judgment is a little comical!

Anonymous said...

12:17 a.m. states nobody at the city reads the blog. 10:10 a.m. states Alderman Payton said "watch the blog go nuts over this". I know for a fact that Alderman Payton not only reads the blog but he has also commented as anon. Certain city officials most definitely read the blog, some for entertainment.

Something funny in the paper today. Why on earth, out of the blue, would the NT run a story about one of the Mautinos also serving as a reservist in the Navy. Today is not Veterans Day. It is not Navy Day. It is not Armed Forces Day. Just out of the blue, and "oh by the way, did you know that Mr. Mautino is also in the Navy?" Sounds like somebody is going to make a run for some sort of office.

I Would think he would be a great candidate for public office. Veteran with business experience. He is much more qualified than the recent Skoog, Resin office holders. If he wants to go toward local politics, he would win easily in the Valley. You may be thinking of Frank, who has retired after a long career as local State Rep. Mark who the article is about, has much more experience and qualifications than his cousin Frank did when he began his tenure. The area will miss Frank and his ability to help many in the area. After the dust has cleared and we all go home after listing to the next year of campaigning, we will agree that Frank had did a wonderful job for the 76th district.

Frank was a tool of the Madigan and Chicago Democrats. If this other Mautino gets elected to something, count on more of the same. But I do agree, he would be better than Skoogy Do.

12:47 PM 12/30/15 reply's: 12:17 AM states nobody at the city reads the blog."

12:47 PM 12/30/15 Either you do not have a complete understanding of the King's English or you misquote the comments of others to reduce them to your own lies.

I believe all bloggers take the time to read 12:17's comment to observe the fact that 12:17 commented that Peru City Officials do not acknowledge it. 12:47 comments that 12:17 states that nobody at the city reads the blog.

It would be great if Peru City Officials would communicate on the blog, but as they are elected to manage the city, which is a demanding and time consuming job, they cannot open themselves to those individuals who lie, belittle and become insultingly personal or should they have to. Sadly some bloggers have not only insulted certain political officeholders but also their family's and children.
The blog does not deserve to be used as a means of saying something about a person which you would not say to their face or include a member of their family. Presently public comment exists because some people do not know how to conduct a open discussion in a gentlemanly or lady like manner.

12:31. First off, England currently has a Queen. So it is the Queen's English. Secondly, "we don't follow no Kings or Queens" in this country. As far as I'm concerned, the entire "Royal Family" can take a bottomless canoe up crap's creek.

If in doubt go back and check. They are there. If you prefer to believe the professionals employed by the city run the city and the elected approve what they are doing why do we elect city administrators and council members?
Incidentally who do you suppose appoints and dismisses those you are giving credit to and who is rightfully the first in line to be contacted with city business when concerned?
Initially who do you believe creates ordinances that are guidelines by which the city is managed?
Everything is pretty much the same since the city became a 8 man council, a 5-3 vote of the council enacts a decision and in a tie vote 0f 4-4 the Mayor holds the tie breaking decision.

Thankful for your info as to England now having a Queen but if you check upon the development of communication in England at that time England had a King. When it comes to language we follow the English language which for no better wording is often referred to as the King's English. Secondly because we have borrowed England's language nowhere does it indicate we follow a King or Queen. What has been inserted in your tea to disturb your opinion of the "Royal Family" to such a degree?

Anonymous said...

According to the BBC - the news and entertainment monopoly owned by the British Government, "the expression "the queen's English" refers to the reigning British monarch. Since English currently has a queen, and has for almost 60 years, the proper expression is "the queen's English.""

Concerning the status of the "Royal Family." They are criminals. They have perpetrated a SCAM against the British People. Additionally, if any one of them steps foot in the United States, they should be jailed immediately and held accountable for their crimes against freedom and liberty.

We have plenty of Royalty here in the 'Merica. Soon we will have Queen Hillary of the Clinton Dynasty, or King Jeb of the Bush Dynasty. The Joker named Trump will be out as soon as they release all the dirt they have on him. I think he is actually an operative for Queen Hillary anyway.

Then there is the King of Illinois, Michael Madigan. Soon we will have Queen Madigan when his daughter is appointed for life.

Voters have nothing to do with who is running our government. It is worse than royalty here.

Anonymous said...

10:35, post like yours shows everyone how stupid people are. Grow up!

Anonymous said...

6:54, but it is quite true. We have created a new royalty in the United States. They go by the title - Senator, Congressman, President, Your Honor, Councilman, Alderman. They bamboozle people to vote for them once. Then they imbed themselves like a tick and suck the lifeblood out of the people. And like a tick, it is nearly impossible to remove them. They just show up someplace else... take Bobby V. for instance. LaSalle County Board, State University Trustee, Peru Township Clerk... now he is "Economic Director." Then there is The Skoog. Ran for Circuit Clerk promising to hold that office and not seek any other. First opportunity, he gets himself appointed for life to the state legislature. There is no way in heck that he will ever be voted out of office. The only way he will leave is if he gets appointed to something better or he upsets the apple cart just a little to much. And don't let that gun thing throw you - Madigan allows them little dalliances as long as he votes correctly on the budget items.

Anonymous said...

No. It's not true. People still vote and that is the final word. I agree about jobs like speaker hold way too much power and only a few vote for that, but there are always people who come and go. We have a say. We have a vote. Madigan did not put Mautino OR Skoog in office. The voters did.

Stop being a low life and bitter loser. Quit your whining. Get involved. This is the USA and to say "it is worse than royalty here" is just utterly sick and ridiculous. It's not true.

Voting is a simple formality. The people do as they are told by CNN, Fox, and MSNBC. The American People want to support a winner. So, when they see polls, they all start liking the winner. It is a snowball effect and is designed to sell advertising. Every presidential poll has been made up by the talking heads on TV. They report that Trump is ahead, next thing you know more people say they like Trump. More commercials are sold and more people watch scripted debates and more commercials are sold. Every Election since 1962 has been per a script written on Madison Avenue. The Advertising Agencies determine who is elected. Not the people.
