I read this article before Lois put it on the blog. Actually I may be the reason she put this heading on because I e-mailed her with some questions and thoughts that I had after reading it. What I don't understand is why is this procedure and process being established now when this program has been in existence for quit some time? Several businesses have already made improvements to their buildings and been reimbursed by the city. What I also don't understand is why only the businesses on Route 6? Is it fair to the other businesses such as those on 5th Street or Peoria Street?

Also, if you read further into this heading (I believe it's on page 5)you will see that the mayor brings up creating a Design and Review Committee and the specifics of his design. This ordinance is dated 12.18.15. however, on 12/16/15 there was a Design and Review Committee meeting agenda listed. Are the members of that committee being dismissed and a new one being established? Can someone please explain?

Are we putting the cart before the horse and allowing certain businesses and individuals privileges and rights before establishing rules and regulations and procedures that future businesses need to abide by?

excellent this is win win

We have had a design and review committee for many years. So I don't think that is an issue.

I do find it odd that we would include things that are mandatory to keep the building up to code. Roofs for example. They must have a roof in good repair or the building can be condemned. The grants, in my opinion, should be for significant improvements that increase the market potential of the property.

I'd also put in a significant grant for demolition. Many of the properties should be cleared to make room for modern buildings.

What's a "win win" 1:57? We already have a Design and Review Committee. Why another one? And why, months after we've implemented a program, are we establishing rules and regulations? You don't find that strange? I do! And why only single out the businesses on Route 6?

a connected individual needs help paying for a new roof. that is the only reason this was put through.

That's my point 3:01. We already have a design and review committee so why is the mayor establishing a new one? That's what the ordinance reads and it's dated 12/18/15.

i'm almost certain the wording is "the design and review committee" meaning the one that already exists. the point is they don't want to give a grant for a project that requires approval from this committee until they approve it.

they did not create another design and review committee.

I heard that City of Peru employees have been "saved by the bell" on their taxes this year. The healthcare plan that we give them is considered a "Cadillac" plan and subject to a 40% excise tax under Obama Care. Most health plans for state and local governments are considered "Cadillac Plans."
The tax was pushed off until 2018 last week. AFSCME, the NEA, the American Federation of Teachers, and other public sector unions demanded that it be pushed off until after the presidential election.

6:29 So, you're proving my point. Once again we've put the cart before the horse. We implemented a program, allowed various individuals to utilize it, and then established rules and regulations. And, once again why are we only concentrating on Route 6 businesses? Fixing a roof is not going to attract or encourage visitors to stop and shop.

The purpose of this program is simply to give money to existing downtown building owners so they can put a Band-Aid on their rat traps. We should encourage the demolition of every building on that block that is over 50 years old. End of story.

not at all I verified they simply fixed a typo relax

Bad design is allowing a business on Shooting Park Road to stick an old shipping container on the property. Talk about an eyesore. Are homeowners going to be following suit in neighborhoods about town?

Anonymous said...

what does that have to do with "design"? If they need a shipping container, I'm sure it is not forever. Jeeze.

During a remodel, I had a dumpster in my driveway for about 45 days. Are you saying that should not be allowed?

10:03 A typo? What are you referencing? Please verify the typo and the correction that took 9 pages!

10:03, The Illuminati needed a slight change to the rules. No sense in asking why, just accept it. It will make things easier for you in the long run.

Now on to more important things. I just heard that The Dollar Store has a sale on Tin Foil. Check your inventory - the hats might need relining soon.

I just want to say Merry Christmas to ALL the bloggers and all Peru officials and employees. Even those bloggers with whom I disagree with so vehemently about the true lack of character of Peru's elected and appointed officials. Now (today and tomorrow) is not the time for us to point out the numerous character flaws and leadership shortcomings of Peru's phony and self-serving individuals. In observance of the holiday season I will not use the joyous occasion to point out the glaring inadequacies and incompetence of those in charge. With that said, the New Year of 2016 brings with it a re-dedication and renewal of our obligation as honest citizens to expose Peru governemnt for what it really is. The hams are in the roaster. The fireplace is glowing. More than forty members of my clan and neighbors will be gathering this afternoon. We are truly blessed with good friends and family. There will be no Peru political banter between us today. We will not allow the evil spectre of Peru government into our homes or hearts today.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! GOD BLESS US ALL, EVERYONE!

Well said 9:22 am - My family and I will not allow those evil forces into our home this holiday season either. We will talk more about it next year.

To be among the Force is where positives are happening and progress is made. The few which are easily convinced with negative thoughts comprising the dark side have become powerless as has their leader Darth of Peru siamese sister of Darth Vader. The year of 16 has been declared to officially abrupt all senseless journeys of thought attempted by the dark side who identify themselves only by the signature of Anonymous decreed and according to the Laws of the Force's
leader Yoda. May, "the Force be with you" in the Land of Harl!

4:43 PM, You must be one of those star wars nerds standing in line at the cinema with a lame Darth Vader mask on. Your rambling comment also indicates you spiked the galactic egg-nogg this year. Please proceed to an anonymous galaxy far, far away.

9:52PM Your comment is very cute and honored by all if only signed by name. One who is in fear of identifying themselves by signing comment with Anonymous demands no respect from the Force. This comment is not only directed to you but all 99% of you who do not have the "Ballistic Balls" to personally identify yourselves.

I appreciate you not bashing the elected officials during your holiday season.
I for one think that you and your band of complainers are just that complainers.
I do a lot of work for the municipalities in our area and Peru is upfront and complainant in every aspect of the work I do for them.
I read this blog when i have down time and it never changes.
If you are so sure that the City of Peru is so corrupt become an elected official and change how things are done at City hall.
I would guess next month when I take a look at this again you will have said the same thing as before and not do anything about it. So Happy New Year.
Proud to live in Peru

11:57, I didn't see your name under your post, why is that?

Anonymous said...

3:05PM You do not see my name under my post because 9:52 does not deserve the respect of my signature nor does anyone else who will not sign their own name. There are entirely too many anonymous comments entered. This is not the fault of the owner of the blog but of those participating.

Does anyone sign their name? Who was the last to sign? Without a name being signed there is no historical value of what comments to depend upon? Most insulting comments would never appear if a signature was required. Why are there so many more negative comments than positive comments on the blog?

Anonymous said...

7:55, your wrong, if Lois made it mandatory to sign your name, which she should, this blog would disappear due to lack of posts.

2:02 PM
Is a comment considered valid without a signature?

Anonymous said...

so if somebody makes up a name, the post is valid?
