Where and When did you find out about the City Council meeting today?

Late this afternoon, I found out that a City Council mtg was going to be held at about 4:30 PM. This was to be a regular city council meeting like those held every other Monday at 7:30PM. City council meetings require 48 hour advance notice to the general public and even if you post on the doors of city hall, that is not enough because if you maintain a city web site you are mandated to also put the notice on there for the public to view.

I only saw it this afternoon, evidently the aldermen were notified on Friday. But I have heard from reliable sources who monitor the city that it never was posted on the city web site for the public.to see. Am I surprised, absolutely not because this is the way the mayor likes to conduct city business.

So my question is: Did you know and when and how did you find out?

Unbelievable!! I had no idea! Was it a special meeting? When was it called? Did the newspaper know about it? Were the reporters there?

The News Media received their agenda by email. The City Clerk states it was put on so I guess we need a consensus of yes or no comments. I was not given the reason for the meeting or how it was structured meaning "open" vs "closed".

However I do wonder if this "special" meeting which did include a closed session will be on video for us to see how important it was.
The Finance meeting meanwhile has been changed from Wed., the 25th to Friday the 27th at 3:30 PM.

Off this topic, I would like to say that I believe that Mayor Scott Harl should become the "point man" for Merry Noonan on all future concerts including those this year. This seems to be his favorite event in Peru, so let him handle all details.
In the meantime, give us back the city clerk to concentrate on city business which involve all of the residents.
There is absolutely nothing in the concerts that are of vital interest to the residents of the city that are being forced to have it in their city.
Also if you are interested in airport funding, you might like to read a new blog that has popped up regarding the funding of our municipal airport that is complete with documentation. Link is off to the right side of the Peru Town Forum blog.

I hope the $34,000 investment on a 6 year old used small dump truck will be good investment of taxpayers money.

If anyone has a true interest if this small dump truck cost will be a good investment consider speaking to Chief King and do a simple cost analysis to determine if it is a good investment. The above suggestions would not be difficult and Jeff is easily accessable and very informative.

Spend spend spend, that a motto!!!! A friend of mine called the city regarding building and zoning, left a message with a female who answered the phone and was told that their call would be returned probably that day. Nine days later the call was returned Art. Is that easily accessible? Think not.

Or they could have called again to follow up. That is what reasonable people do.

I've called many businesses and not every gotten a call back. If not I try again. Please.

On this topic of trucks whatever happened to the supposed stolen truck that was found and that we were going to buy back at a great deal? Never did hear if that happened. Another vehicle to add to our fleet. Wonder how many vehicles we have and how many actual workers we have on the payroll to use them. May have to FO
IA that info.

Who pays their salaries 12:05? Who pays a homeowners property taxes? Tax revenue from people's spending is the answer to question number one. The person who owns the home is the answer to question number two.

Policy on city vehicles used for personal use? Can city vehicles be taken home for lunch? Or taken home after work and sit in the driveway until the next day of work?

2:39 - yes, absolutely. It happens all the time. I think it is in the union contract that every employee gets a vehicle to use.

Anon 2:50 PM Have you ever read the City of Peru's union contact? I have and do not remember reading that every employee gets a vehicle to use. Everyone, please show respect to the blog so that the blog is respected.

What about Driver-Ed vehicles taken home for lunch and at night?

4:39 Thank you.

City workers who drive city vehicles, be cautious when in the vehicle at fast food joints/banks don't get into fender benders, and put a little of your salary in the tank.

I agree with 11:23, our buildiing inspector is not easily accessible. I have a friend who tried contacting him via cell phone(s) and left messages expecting a return call-my friend never recieved a return call. Then again this was in regards to a private matter, I guess my friend should have used his wifes phone!!! Mr King is NOT the person he wants US to think he is!!!

I have talking about this before because you cannot fill position on top of position with the same 2 people and expect it to be done right. Take your complaints up the chain of command to the top because that is where the problem is. A police chief should be a police chief and a fire chief should be a fire chief not supt. of public works, a zoning inspector or a building inspector. What we are experiencing what any person would expect to see, no job is getting 100% and that means the city is not either.

Lois, you couldn't have said it any better about have Police and Fire Chief's running Public Works & Electric Depts. Hopefully the City is serious about a Utilities Director.

There is no chain of command is one big rats best how many people were arrested last night for illegal fireworks? The big guys were prob the ones shooting them off
