Letters to the editor: Proud to be living in the Illinois Valley - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

I was not aware of this before it happened so thanks to the writer in the open forum. This is definitely something I am also proud to see and something long needed in this area for families. I don't remember seeing it promoted but nice that so many people did. Thanks to all the churches and businesses that participated and if you went I would love to hear from you.

This is exactly what this town needs. ACTIONABLE ideas, not a bunch of cry babies complaining on a blog.

Anonymous said...

Maybe a lot of truthful babies. 8:27, you must not care for honest truthful people

Anonymous said...

You have to be joking 11:19. 8:27 refers to actionable ideas but in your mind the bloggers are "truthful" so having actionable ideas is a bad thing. Read through a string of posts and see how many you could stand behind as "truthful." This is the place where rumors are spread. It doesn't mean some may not be true but this person speaks for many when they refer to bloggers. No one will ever listen to anonymous bloggers complaining and spreading rumors. Including me. This is not a forum to get something done. Period.

5:59 PM WHY DIDN'T YOU STATE YOUR NAME WITH YOUR COMMENT??????

I am always amazed by those who want this blog to be more than what it is. Rumors? How about questions, suppositions, in a forum open for knocking them down.
Unless Lois is censoring official responses, I would think it would function as a good place to tell the truth, if the bloggers are spreading rumors.
Most of the anti blog complainers whine that the bloggers dont DO things... that the bloggers should not complain since they dont DO. Bringing up issues is doing something. Never replying with facts that can be checked, well thats just the Mayor and City way of running and hiding. They say that the rumors are not worth debating, are below them, are conspiracy theories and crazy.

Let me throw is back to you. Start up your own blog with all the official statements countering these theories. Show blogs you have posted that Lois censored that are official, sensible, or reasoned rebuttals.

Crush the rumor mill with facts.

let me guess, these blogs are not worth your time to refute. Complaining about complainers is the ultimate in lazy irony.

From perutownship.com website

Resolution to set the hours of operation for Peru Township main business office located at 1009 Peoria St. Peru, IL at four (4) hours per day with the Township Supervisor having full discretion to set the office hours accordingly; and that current clerical personnel at the Peru Township office be compensated at the rate of $20.30 per hour up to four (4) hours per day for a total of twenty (20) hours per week; and that clerical personnel shall be provided a monthly medical reimbursement for out of pocket medical expenses not to exceed $250 per month; and that current clerical personnel shall be provided four (4) weeks paid vacation leave based on a twenty (20) hour work week.

Have I missed something here Democrat Supervisor taking care of Democrat Precinct Committee person who is secretary...20.40 an hour, 4 weeks paid vacation and medical reimbursement....

Unbelievable and Wreckless with our tax dollars...

The original intent of the forum was to get individuals elected to office that were backed by those who authored the blog. That's what a few campaigns do--if you have no credentials, education or experience you post rumors, knock the opponent with anonoymous baloney. Some actually fall for it! If you have accomplished the task you continue to look for ways to take out other targets. That is why you have many anonoymous that prefer to sprinkle in names with conspiracy, lies, rumors. Please note you seldom will see a name that is not a elected official. Elected officials are unable to file suit for these lies, they are unprotected by law from those who liable. I think it would be more effective if you reached out to discuss the topic with those in charge and post the responses. These leaders are simple and it might be more comical than stuff that is made up.

There is not a single credible publicly elected person who should ever go on a blog with a bunch of anonymous people and post anything. No offense but why do you think that this is the place where people would do something like that.

Blogs are places where people feel better sharing opinions and a few people will read it but they still don't care what you think. It can be a blog about sports, politics, celebrities or whatever topic you choose. It's just noise and no one cares nor should they.

Rodney has stopped as well and good for him. He finally realized trying to please 25 anonymous people was hurting him versus spending time with those who actually call and talk to publicly elected people. Try it. It works. And then they will actually care what you think. Rodney is not the only one. I have found all of them to be reasonable to talk to even if I disagree.

We will see if the screener posts this one. Probably not.

4:50 p.m. I have to agree with you. So much more gets done when you express your ideas face to face with people, or when you at least post your name.

11:19 the secretary used to be 40 hours per week, so cutting her hours in half is a step in the right direction. The salary, medical reimbursement and vacation is absurd and only happens in the public sector, private sector can't afford it.

One improvement at a time. Here's hoping more cuts will be made this year.

I have found I have gotten far more action from posting on this blog than calling elected officials. I have seen them change, cover their tracks, alter some policy all because of the comments here.
They may not like what I think, but they do care what I think.

Lois what is the number of summer help we have this year compared to last . there was to be a significant decrease since most work was hired out .

Anonymous said...

There are 25 summer helpers hired this year. I personally have witnessed several of them riding around the parks on the gator.

Anonymous said...

I see a lot of these kid helpers riding around in $40,000 one ton dump trucks. And doing nothing as usual. I also notice the adult workers following them around in another truck . And every morning I see the foreman at John's till after 7 am drinking coffee and eating donuts. I guess you'll have that with no time clocks .

11:19 & 6:33
at least the "secretary" is working for her money. What about the clerk who makes $26,000 and does 5 hours or less of work; or the hwy commissioner who works at his own business and has 2 part-timers doing his work?
that is reckless and disgusting!

Anonymous said...

Its meaningless to cut the female secretary position and the good old boys club at the township keep those big old inflated salaries. Does the Township Supervisor still make about $35,000 for 4 hour a day? Does the Township Clerk still Make $30,000 for 1 one hour a month. Yes, one hour a month. If the officials are serious about cost cutting and lowering taxes they would eliminate the Clerk and take a look at the supervisor position, accessor, and officials to see if they are on par with other sized townships.

Anonymous said...

Get a clus 11:08 and 10:49.You have no idea what you are talking about. You don't know what hours any of these people at the township put in or what hours they don't. You don't really think it will help your cause by pointing fingers do you? You will get no symapthy from me for anybody at the township. You are just pissed because you can't stop the reform thats building momentum.

Anonymous said...

I was told supervisor and accesser make well over 45k now and benefits take them to 50k

I don't do twp data, so you will get no answers here. If you have valid information backed up by real info, that is one thing but your questions will not get answers.

12:21
dont make assumptions about what you dont know - were all not clueless!

Anonymous said...

12:21 Reform huh? I think you got a few people in with the township that like to talk about politics and really don't know what reform is. Taking a pay cut on the lady that does most of the work sounds like political garbage to us.
The tax assesor has a task to perform, I doubt its worth a fraction of the pay. The township supervisor reviews the aid for rseidents, I guess if you don't give aid why would you need to review? The road commissiner has to upkeep the roads, that is at most a part part time task. The clerk well, that is $30,000 for taking notes for meetings that happen once a month for about 30 minutes. You the taxpayer want reform, the best reform is to disband this taxing body and let those politicians pat themselves on the back with getting rid of another irrelevant tax base. That will only come from the trustees who are making only a small percentage of what the supervisor, clerk, assessor make. Its tough to split up the good old gang.

Pay attention folks. 11:01 am is obviously one of the slugs that was ousted after the last township election. Maybe an ousted elected official or maybe an ousted employee. But "ousted" he got and now that he's on the outside looking in he is suddenly all concerned about salaries and taxes.
A real genuine guy!

11:01 is probably sleeping still out by the farm instead of working....
