What Happened to Special Concert Requests?

We have no clue as to whether the concert date has been changed and another stage added. According to the site, tickets were being sold for August 16 so I suspect it is the same day. As to the additional stage, it remains a question mark.

This just adds to the questions regarding the special needs and waste of time of our elected officials. Consider this, City Clerk Bartley has always been the point man to coordinate the city with the concert and as far as I know we pay all of his salary, so time spent taking care of these details is time spent doing what he should be doing in the City Clerks Office.

maybe she want a two day bash now. Just to shake things up. And if we got rid of all those pesky plans, and FAA rules.

I dont know why they get bent out of shape about chamlin and following the FAA setback rules. From what I saw they put the stage right as close to the towers as possible. But they forgot about the two tractor trailers behind it. They consider rules as something to bend and get around.

Insurance brokers act as intermediaries between large insurers and consumers. Some businesses and individuals will only purchase insurance through a broker. Others have different feelings and do not use brokers. Brokers might not be for everyone especially if personal insurance needs are very simple. Consumers will find that several advantages and potential disadvantages come with using an insurance broker. Time- A good insurance broker will save a client time. Brokers maintain relationships with a range of different carriers. A broker can compare rates based on the personal information about a client in a very short period of time. An average consumer who is shopping for a life insurance policy will need to visit each insurer separately. The consumer has no knowledge of the different companies and must spend time comparing the different rates and policy details. The broker does all of this in a fraction of the time. Better Rates- An insurance broker can often provide better rates for individuals with specific needs. This is because the broker understands exactly how to modify a policy in order to get the coverage, premium or long-term return that the client expects. Modifying policies is not normally something that an average consumer can do when shopping for insurance directly with insurers or other institutions. Some brokers even have relationships with certain insurers and can offer special rates or discounts if a client qualifies. Flexible Insurance- Life insurance comes in a very wide variety of different types. There are simple term policies, annuities and whole life policies. Not all individuals outside of the insurance industry are fully aware of the different products available. An insurance broker will have a detailed knowledge of all the insurance products that are being offered. This allows the broker to offer clients flexible policies that meet the coverage needs of the family. Limited Selection- Some insurance brokers do not cultivate relationships with a wide range of insurers. These brokers choose to work with just one or two insurers. This could be because the broker is comfortable with those companies or because there is a perception that just one or two providers are enough to handle all client needs. Hiring a broker who only works with one or two insurers could result in policies that are not a good fit for a family. Pressure- Insurance brokers are essentially salespeople. They make a living by selling insurance products to consumers. Some individuals do not want to deal with brokers because of the sales pressure and tactics that could be employed. Consumers have started to turn more towards the Internet for research about certain products in order to avoid high-pressure sales environments. Disclosure- A large reason that some consumers avoid insurance brokers is because of a lack of disclosure. Brokers are paid by insurance companies under any number of different pay structures. The possibility exists that a broker might decide to push a particular product or policy aggressively because it will garner the highest compensation possible. This means that the broker is really working for the insurance company or personal gain and not for the customer. This is not always the case although it is hard to tell the difference between brokers.

It was in the newspaper that the concert will have 2 stages. Remember she started advertising the first concert before the alderman approved it, so sounds like whatever Merry want, Merry gets.

Lois, you're absolutely right about Mr. Bartley being the go to person with regards to these concerts and that he is on the city payroll. Also, who do you think will pay Chamlin for the new map he needs to draw up??? And, wonder if the 2nd stage will interfere with the safety plan that was drawn up by another person on our city payroll??? Will that have to be modified???

No more tennis classic in Peru. IVCH tennis tournament had gone to LaSalle as a result of Peru having one less court. The court was changed to pickleball! Is anybody playing pickleball at Washington Park?

I see in tonights paper a petition to put up a pole barn in city limits is in legal section of paper. The petitioner says he's using it for a residential garage . Lies. He owns a business he's going to use it for . He milks us tax payers double dipping as a cop and doing lighting work on city vehicles on the clock then bills us tax payers for the same work . The petition is all lies . Its going to he his business garage . This is perjury to the zoning board and us tax payers . But when you're a super cop you get to do whatever you want I guess .

City officials have been so busy recently with the concert that a special meeting of the council had to be called for this afternoon.
In the agenda for this meeting was a area of Petitions and Communication with a Item 1. This Item refers to Crossbridge Community Church , which was formally Harvest Community Church located at 1725 4th st.
Harvest Community Church was allowed, by a 3 year variance granted to them by the zoning committee to occupy a church in a zoned business district and in agreement to move out the business district after the 3 years. After the 3 year term expired Harvest Community Church applied for a permanent variance and in being challenged was only again granted a 3 year variance, Since this period of time another variance has been granted.
Does anyone know of the arrangement that has led Harvest to become Crossbridge. It has been rumored that Harvest has combined with a church from Ottawa, Illinois and presently wants to utilize a city parking lot for a cook out. If read carefully their appeal states that it is the parking lot of their building which is totally incorrect.
Also being that Harvest Community Church no longer exists doesn't the newly founded church legally to have a variance have to apply for a new variance and since the church has a location in Ottawa why would another variance be granted?
The success of zoning relies on the zoning rules upon which have been agreed to, and not to be granting variances needlessly.

A very reliable source said that the meeting was a violation of the OMA because it was not posted online 48 hours ahead of time. Am I surprised? of course not as the administration is assured of no more than a slap on the wrist AGAIN by the AG.

Us in the valley are glad you in Peru took both our Super Chief and his butt kissing Super Cop/Fireman ! Enjoy !

Is somebody going to call the AG? Enough with these back room closed session tactics. Open & honest & transparent, NOT!

A friend of mine who owns a small franchised business which does business in ottawa, lasalle, peru, and spring valley received a letter from the IRS regarding their business tax returns(has had business 3 years). Not only did the letter state that a couple thousand dollars was owed to the IRS in the first letter, another letter from the IRS stated another couple thousand owed. Not only does the IRS want the money, they are requesting all documentation pertaining to the business. This business of my friends doesn't even do $40,000 a year of
Business. My friend also had to buy into the
Franchise and purchase the franchised products for the business. The reason I'm blogging this is because can you imagine if the IRS did an audit on the business that promotes the concerts. And it makes you wonder if that would be to happen if the city would become part of the audit? I guess the bloggers in some other posts were correct in their comments regarding IRS audits , because a friend of mine is getting one.

10:37 audit? Thats what the IRS does. Why do you fear a audit? You are suppose to have records of your business, and pay taxes. Why would you care of some business is being audited by the IRS. According to reports the city files complete recoreds that are available through the freedom of information act. It also has to provide the office of aeronautics the information. I don't think the IRS will come to your house. And don't worry about that little business that has to file all of the income. Its the law.

The City report to the FAA is an absolute accounting joke. I cant wait for Kristy to annihilate those supposed profitable reports on her new blogsite.
I am waiting to see if in fact the city forgave debt that it used to show profitability.

3:52 I didn't read 3:57's comment as you depicted, I comprehended it as referring the IRS doing random audits of businesses/people's personal tax returns. Any yes, documention of any and all records pertaining to income tax filing is a requirement if an audit insues. Many people/businesses do receive letters from the IRS stating an underpayment is due. Thiis usually happens to the smaller businesses, or lower income tax brackets. The bigger the business being audited by the IRS, the more documentation is required. And if the business doesn't have paper documention for its taxes, it is used against them. The IRS does beat down doors. Remember what happened in Dixon not so long ago? I have personal knowledge how the IRS works and accounting procedures being as I have been involved with that for approximately 30 years. Many instances when people/business receive a letter from the IRS stating they owe them, the person/business just pays the money because they don't want the IRS to do an audit. But, if there is a lot of descrepencies that the IRS sees on a tax return that is when the going can get tough. My advice is to be honest when doing or having your taxes done.

Someone earlier on this particular heading commented that the "tennis classic" was moved to the new LP sports complex because of the elimination of one court at Washington Park. In reality, because it was reported that the "tennis classic" was being moved to the new sports complex, the pickleball court could be added to Washington Park. Just wanted to clarify this misconception.

Just read Kristys new blog entries on the airport. I can just imagine the news trib award winning journalists reading them, confused, perplexed. Where is the recipe for the blueberry pie? Where is the boy scout learning to shoot a BB gun? Why does this person seem upset here in Stepford Valley? Everything is awesome here.

Its must reading for every Peru resident. Cant wait for the conspiracy attack bloogers to begin. She could say the big yellow ball in the sky is the Sun and many would just say she was planting lies with all her darn facts.

Whether you love these Airport concerts or hate them, the odds are they are going to keep happening. I urge everyone to contact Clerk Bartley and the police chief and INSIST that the promoter publicize in all materials and tickets that there will be drug and weapons searches, insist that the promoter pay for a commercially prepared safety and evacuation plan and implement it coordinating with the local police, and also please contact the FAA overview personnel (if they are on Kristys blog) and insist they review the revised plan with a maximum crowd capacity determined. These bureaucrats will ignore this until something bad happens, and the time has come to put differences aside and recognize what needs to be done.

Below is an excerpt from the New Yorker, from an article titled Crush Point. Its good reading no matter which side of the concert debate you fall on. I don't know if Kristys blog will ever show the FAA approved concert layout, but if it needs revision, now is the time to push to have it done by crowd experts, not only the good local folks at Chamlin. The close call due to storms at the Kid Rock concert should have served as a wake up call.

"In the developed world, soccer games and rock concerts are the most likely events to generate deadly crowds. In 1989, in Sheffield, England, ninety-five people died after they were caught in a crowd crush at Hillsborough stadium when fans were trying to get into a soccer match between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool. (A ninety-sixth victim was taken off life-support four years later.) At a rock festival in Roskilde, Denmark, in 2000, nine people died after a crowd collapse that occurred near the stage while Pearl Jam was performing. Twenty-one people were killed at the Love Parade, a free electronic-music festival in Duisburg, Germany, when a crush developed in a disused rail tunnel that led to the festival grounds."
