Public Health and Safety Meeting July 15 Youth Center
A topic on the committee but nothing was brought to the council, perhaps something is in the works. Perhaps you know.

Why would a youth center be discussed at this meeting?
I went to this meeting. The two young men pitching this idea are very enthusiastic. They are planning it for the old Amcore bank building. It would be more of an event center than a youth center. It's still in the planning stages.
Sherry - can you expand on their pitch? Are they asking for funding? Are they connected in any way to the owners of the building? This administration has two speeds: Stop and lightning fast. I am concerned that this may be a repeat of the city hall basement BB Gun club.
Brian, I think the owner of the building is behind these two young men. The two young men are making a financial investment and were only at the meeting to ask permission to have an events facility and ask for guidance as far as safety measures are concerned. Both police and fire chiefs are going to be checking out the facility to make sure everything is ok. To my knowledge, no city funding was requested or offered. They seem to be very hard working, motivated and enthusiastic individuals, and I really hope it works out for them.
Ms. Lois: I am new to this area. I imbibe from time to time. Something about this area took me by surprise. You may want to blog about this because I think our local governments are losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential tax revenue. It is almost universal that local taverns deal almost exclusively in cash and do not ring up sales in cash registers. Now I realize that a drink, much like a gallon of gas, has the tax built in to the price. But, there is no record of the sale. So, I think that the tavern owners can underestimate the number of drinks they sold when it comes to the sales tax portion of the bill. It would be much easier if the government made it a requirement that all sales be recorded on a cash register and make the establishment provide a detailed receipt that includes the sales tax amount. It would be even better if we mandated the use of a credit or debit card. Cash sales are hard to track. And who knows? The cash could be coming from an illegal source. It is better for everyone if cash is not used. That way we know it is a legitimate transaction and it can be tracked by the government. From what I can tell, sitting in bars is popular in Peru and LaSalle. We might as well get the maximum tax benefit from this so we can pay for the much needed functions of government.
Oh to be so innocent of the workings of the Ill Valley. Who wants to educate this person regarding all the illegal activities that are not taxed and fully known even by our local elected officials.
Anon 4:03 "regarding all the illegal activities that are not taxed and fully known even by our local elected officials" - you must be referring to ILLEGAL GAMBLING which is the responsibility of the Mayors of each city, Sheriff and States Attorney of LaSalle County to be positive that it does not exist.
7:20. I think he is trying to say that WE don't need to get the money from the bar owners. And that THEY are more desirving of the MONEY than WE are. Mr. Q - you are completely right. This money needs to be distributed back through the local government programs such as roads and pipes. That way good union people have jobs. I am going to start asking for a detailed receipt every time I order something at a bar. THEY NEED TO PAY THE TAX! THE MONEY IS FOR THE PEOPLE NOT THE FAT CAT BAR OWNERS!!!!!!!
8:29. but the government has better things to do with the money than you do. We need to distribute the excess money to the government and they will do good things with it.
Why would a city, county or state official knowingly allow laws to be broken and how long has illegal gambling been going on for in the LsSalle County area?
Surprised that none of the city, county or state officials have not defended their stance on the accusations made directly against them on the subject of illegal gambling. End result is to believe that this is just another example of the ineffectiveness of the type of person involved in all layers of politics in the State of Illinois. Everyone has witnessed city and county officials personally at business' with illegal gambling being conducted in front of them.
Illegal gambling has been a mainstay in Peru since the days when Al Capone used to come to the area. It's never going to change. The police know it's going on and will not do anything to stop it.
Anon 8:13 PM 7:38 PM has spelled out the power structure it takes to stop illegal gambling in LaSalle county. If you don't belive 7:38PM recall some of the history of LaSalle county and gambling such as States Attorney Harlan Warren and LaSalle Mayor B.D. Bruno. They stopped it.
Anon 8:13 PM Al Capone never personally came to the LaSalle Peru area. This areas illegal gambling had always been conducted by people of the area and sanctioned by the areas local politicians as is being done today. If illegal gambling was halted in LaSalle County the best businessmen would only become better and the worst would be eliminated. As it is now the worst may make the most on account of their breaking the law, not paying taxes on the profits of illegal gambling and are only in business because of illegal gambling. I guarantee you that most businesses with illegal gambling would be eliminated within 6 months to a year. Why would any elected official allow illegal gambling if they were not getting some gain for themselves out of it? Why?
Anon 10:55 AM Outstanding question. "WHY WOULD ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL ALLOW ILLEGAL GAMBLING IF THEY WERE NOT GETTING SOME GAIN FOR THEMSELVES OUT OF IT? WHY?" Does anyone have a answer for this question? I mean a good legal answer. The Mayors of the surrounding area, the County Shreiff, And the LaSalle County States Attorney have to realize the disrespect that they receive on account of allowing illegal gambling within their domain. The excuse that they may not be aware of it is not substantial since it is their responsibility to uphold the law.
530. You will NEVER EVER EVER stop illegal gambling from happening. Think about it. You and a friend put 5 bucks on a game, that is illegal gambling. Get used to it.
Anon 8:52 When someone speaks of illegal gambling they are not referring to friendly bets. There is a big difference between $5 gentlemen bets and $100 and $200 squares and all the other forms of illegal gambling which is presently taking place in this area. I doubt that $5 friendly bets accumulate to $80,000 that one establishment alone grosses on Super Bowl Sunday. Multiply this by the number of establishments that conduct illegal gambling all year and what amount of money are we talking about. Presently what is the legal penalty for being a operator of illegal gambling? Is the fine smaller than the profit? You had best get used to a change in time to come the state needs money badly. Good luck!
Anon 8:52 When two friends have a friendly bet with one another of $5.00 the winner gets $10.00 with no one else holding at least 20% or more as a business profit upon which no taxes are paid.
Anon 8:52 NEVER EVER EVER is a LONG LONG TIME for illegal gambling to not be stopped. Proof of this is that it has been stopped before. These locations where it was stopped were bigger and better organized than LaSalle County and the stoppage has been permanent. Possibly some of LaSalle County politicians know inividuals from other counties who have served time in penal institutions because of illegal gambling.
Anon 1:42 PM You are correct that numerous politicians have served time in penal institutions because of being a accessory to the crime rather than their responsibility of being a enforcer of the law. Many politicians think that they do not have to account for permitting illegalities but in studying the history of Illinois governors there is proof that even the top can fall. Ron, George, Dan, Otto etc.
What no one is talking about is he tremendous number of water main breaks that are continuing this summer. Sunday on Westclox Av and tonight on Putnam near Centennial Park that will require overnight repairs.
One of the most important aspects of what goes on in this area, one that gets very little attention, is the subject of money laundering. There is a long history of cash operations in this area. Back when the airport was in its early days, the rumors flew that the main function of the airport was to move cash. Many small airports in the US have been used for cash movement //drug smuggling.
When the counter arguments appear here saying that people against gambling are pro government, wanting to give money to govt... Well let's just say it's an old one that I heard my grandpa use around here. He worked for the Chicago Mob. The more things change...
You want to keep cash monitored, and it is not socialism to say it. And keep large amounts of it away from airports at all times.
Anon 6:12 You say that your grandfather worked for the Chicago mob,was he a politician? Today the politicians have replaced and are the mob. The difference you find in a study of history is that the mob was more honest, fairer and were much better business people. They understood business and people. When you mention the mob you do not think of a bunch of crooks when you mention a politician what do you think of? A crook for one thing and than what else I don't want to spell out. What is the difference between a mobster taking payoff money to allow you to stay in business or a politician continuously raising taxes on your business so that him and his friends can approriate one another huge undeserved salaries. If you don't pay taxes the politician will find a law to close your shop.
11:36 I believe what you are doing is called rationalization. Everybody gets some, so I will sell my share. Everyone is doing it, so I can do it. The politicians are crooked so I will cheat the govt. I would rather serve the mob than allow the govt to take my money. It's an old song.
My grandpa also used to say two wrongs don't make it right. We all rationalize the wrong things we do. That's why we need to call each other out on it. This union town is full of this crap. Look at how the township Officials justified their take.
Rationalization is the path to doing the most horrible things and saying its ok... The mob families live in that world and always have. They can be the most outwardly charitable, caring families in the world all while making their money illegally and turning their eyes away from the evil and damage they do.

The government can't effectively spend what it has coming in now, by all means lets give them more money
Anon 4:53 Would you please explain your comment. Are you answering someone?
Anon 4:03 "regarding all the illegal activities that are not taxed and fully known even by our local elected officials" - you must be referring to ILLEGAL GAMBLING which is the responsibility of the Mayors of each city, Sheriff and States Attorney of LaSalle County to be positive that it does not exist.

720 Yes, I am responding to the comment made by 956. If the governments revenue increases, that means more money is taken out of YOUR pocket.

10:16 PM
The government does not know what to do with my money better than I do myself. Just hope you are being funny just for the sake of it.
7:20 -- Is it only union people who should benefit? I wonder if you were a golf benefit supporter and can bet that you voted for you know who!!!

Hey if you all are so anxious to give the government money then why don't you write the government a check
