Looking from my friends backyard you can still see the former tennis court aka pickleball court and hear the shouts and yells of the pickleball players some times but the outhouse that was moved is now right smack dab in the middle of the park and close to the childrens slide once again and you can see it all day everyday. With talk of putting plants around it, I guess it might be called the Beautification of the 28th Street Park by the City of Peru. No the volunteers are not involved in this project but the Public Works Department with the advice and consent of several members of the Recreation Board and possibly one spouse. And who knows maybe even the mayorl
Dont't we all wish we could live in such a beautiful area with such consideration for the neighborhood?
Special interests have not diminished and no sounds of disapproval from the top.

The mayor was quoted as saying "the court will never be a tennis court again". Why would he care what goes on there? Who the heck thinks planting flowers around an out house will make it look better? Probably the same idiots that wanted to change the court in the first place. I sure hope Linda D. stands up to the other recreation board members and their dumb ideas.
5:57 They not only want to plant flowers around it they want to build a wall on three sides. Anybody who lives around the park better get to the next rec board meeting because Linda D. will be out numbered and they will do what they want. The sad part is not one of them lives next to the park, so it's too bad too sad for the neighbors. It's all about what the pickle ball player wants.
Top of your page are nice pics of the splash pad in Ottawa. Take a look at that park again and you will see that they too have port-a-pots over there with a wall built around them to dress them up a bit. They are located on the west end of the park. You say we should follow Ottawa's lead on so many issues, then when Peru does you complain.
If your friend has that big of a problem with the park have her build a fence like all her neighbors have. The park is for ALL Peruvians, not just the ones living next door.
You want to beautify Peru?
Buy some paint.
Bob
Decisision making is so bad by those who have to make decisions in Peru that it is leaving one with the thought that someone has information that they do not want revealed and have tainted their judgement to keep this person quiet. Most likely the problem involves something to do with finance. Is there anyone who was publicly very inquisitive with well thought out and unanswerable question and now has completely disappeared from the political scene?
yes, finally were back to pickelball.
Yes Bob, the park is for all Peruvians but those that have to listen to the disturbing noise pickleballers make and those who have to look at a porta-potty on a daily basis should have been the people approached before changes were made. After all, when the pickleballers are done playing they all go home (they don't have this problem in their backyards). As a matter of fact, neither does the ambassador. I guarantee you that if the shoe was on the other foot many of those who have played the game would not allow it in their backyards. As far as the 'john' those who used the park in the past for many, many years survived w/o one. How come the p/ickleballers seems to be an elite, special club who have been handed the key to the city and the h e double hockey sticks with the tennis players and the kids?
Bob is that park in Ottawa surrounded by homes on all four sides? What is the name of the park I would like to take my kids to the splash pad?
I can understand the need for a restroom at a splash pad or swimming pool but in a small neighborhood park it is ridiculous. The rec board should take into consideration the neighbors of the park and at least talk to them before they make these decisions. Once again it is turn around and bend over, the rec board is going to stick it to you.
To Bob,
Evidently you are not aware that there are other parks where children play and no facilities exist and never have and since these parks are neighborhood parks, they just go to their home when they need to. If the pickleball players didn't request this "neccessity", one would not be there.
Most adults should be able to get in their car and drive to one of the fast food places on Shooting Park if the need arises to use the facilities.
And the promoters can just walk to their own residence. This really says something about those who are playing the game. You make the call.
If the neighbors at Sunset had issues like the ones at 28th st, I certainly would hope that the rest of the citizens of Peru would not have an opinion as to what should or should not go into the park. those decisions should be based upon what is best for the neighbors. and also why is it only the 28th st park that has to suffer through bad decision making? You will not have to think to long or hard on that question.
Maybe too many of those pickleball players have IBS, I think that stands for irritable bowel syndrome, whereas when you have to go you have to go. Suggestion to those who have this problem: buy some depends and wear them. Nobody in their right state of mind that lives around that park wants to see a port a potty daily, not to mention the smell when the wind picks up! Where in the heck is the consideration and respect from the city officials towards these taxpayers and residents of 28th street park???? And here you go to all you brainers: planting flowers doesn't solve the problem. Amazing how STUPID some people are.
that recommendation (to landscape the porta potty area) was mentioned by the rec board
I am begging someone, anyone from the city to help solve the situation at 28th st. park and put an end to this mess that the rec board has created. Will someone with a brain step forward!
People who take their children to 28th park to play on the equipment only stay for a while 15-30 minutes on average. It's not a big park! I've personally witnessed this for over 10+years! when tennis was played here players spent more time playing tennis on average then the people playing on equipment. There was no toliet facilities for years. An now that pickleball came to town like the master of ceremonies, and celebrity waiters re-election, a toliet is needed. Simple: everybody needs to ask themselves if they lived in that area and on a daily basic looked out their windows, would you want to see a porta potty aka:outhouse? Maybe a survey of all residents in that neighborhood needs to be done, so neighbors can support each other on this issue.
Who's excited about the Woodstock concerts coming to Peru this summer at the airport? Asking for volunteers? Wow! Especially when ones personal pocketbook is benefitting also. Shameful to personally benefit monetarily and ask for volunteers. What type of person/business owner would do this? Shows character doesn't it?
How great is the evasive maneuvers of the recreation board! Evasive maneuvers used by a person or a group of people don't always hold up and fool people. This administration is always using evasive maneuvers to try and pull the wool over the taxpayers eyes.
Everyone who had a brain and ran in the last election got beat! Shows you how many brainless idiots we have voting in this town.
Simple: IMPEACH HARL !!!
You wouldn't believe how arrogant Harl has become. I can't elaborate on his newest idea, but I can tell you his head has gotten waaaaay too big!
I was looking for some information on the city web site and particularly going through some minutes. I have never been to a Design and Review meeting, so decided to read the minutes from the last couple of meetings. They are always attended by the mayor and thought maybe I would see something not yet announced.
At the bottom of the page that had the city logo at the top were the words...
Peru the fastest growing city in La Salle County.
Are you going to tell me that he believes that and will do something on this own authority.
Bob where are you? Please come back and answer the questions to your comment.
Get rid of the outrageous eyesore and smelly outhouse. These neighbors deserve some respect! WHERE ARE THESE NEIGHBORS ALDERMAN? What good are they? They didn't get elected to sit at council meetings and twiddle their thumbs and drink a palet of bottle water that taxpayers pay for. What's wrong with city water for council drink? Is it tainted? Why do taxpayers pay for bottled water? Curious.
Bob are those splash pads at the park by the river?
What would you like us to paint Bob?
I'm not bob- how about painting lines on the
Roads, turning arrows that can be seen. That dell downtown could use paint. Curb paint might be
Good too so you know where not to park. Alot of tree limbs need taken off so a stop sign can be
Seem so you don't get whiplash braking for it, Where is the Peru sign that use to be on waterstreet? What ever happened to putting a park on waterstreet?
The little park on Marquette Road & Carrie was trimmed up prior to the election The 65% of the voters who didn't vote for the mayor, would like to see it cleaned or have it could be declared in violation of the Weed Ordinance.
Whatever happened to putting a park on Waterstreet? Now there is a really intelligent question. Take a ride around town observing the empty parks and someone is asking for another one.
8:49 PM
Actually I was told that they hoped that they would have grass growing in the pile of rubble that was formerly the power plant by now. It seems that things did not work out they way they wanted them to.
I believe they still have it in their mind to make some type of park on Water Street.
It is way to difficult for the present administration to have any form of vision for Peru but a minimum of foresight would be a plus.
First take a look at what surrounds the site where they want to put the park. Second breathe deeply. Third, wake up to the fact that the idea is 100 years too late, and that is not vision but is common sense.
The patch of land on water street in Peru is a grass area. Its sure beats a old building. A park can mean many things, nothing wrong with a green area. Its a start. I thank the city administration for the vision and the common sense.
Wait a minute. That grassy area on waterstreet would be a perfect spot for a port a potty aka/outhouse. It would fit right in with the condition of waterstreet. Even plant some flowers around it. It's called a beautification project.
Anon 11:58 You can also thank the city administration for the vision and common sense for the failure of not maintaing the parks Peru already has. The stand pat statement of the SPW's every time a responsibilty of his comes up is "I don't have enough people", how many more city workers will have to be added for this park?
Why does Peru need another park?
AMEN 7:55 We don't take proper care of the parks we already have. We do not need another one.
Amen Amen 7:55 and 10:00. No more parks until the ones we already have are taken care of properly. Example is Rotary Park.
Mayor Harl, it has become evident that the people of Peru are more interested in the care of the present parks than the creation of new parks. They seem to be in agreement that we don't have a need of more parks as most parks are empty 95% of the time.
