Whats Going on in Peru Signs Are Being Removed Willy Nilly?

It seems that all of a sudden the city has decided to randomly enforce an old ordinance regarding signs that can be temporarily posted such as garage sales, ice cream socials, charity events and remove them without notifying the interested parties that they are in violation. Our building inspector appears to have decided they he will decide what signs stay up and which ones come down. Should he have consulted with the council or perhaps put a warning in the local paper that starting on Day ? forward NO signs would be allowed unless he decided they were OK? I thought the new Code Officer was to be under the department of SPW, Gary Bleck and all of a sudden he is enforcing the rules designated by Frank Taylor. Will someone in Peru please make sense of this situation?

Lois the code enforcer for lack of capable city managers should be responsible to the Public Property committee if the Mayor does not want to be his direct supervisor. Everyone eventually answers to the Mayor. The code enforcer should be a complete separate entity from the assistant building inspector since he was employed to perform his own obligations and not to be a assistant building inspector to the present assistant building inspector. If the code enforcer has to follow the assistant building inspector he will eventually be building inspector enforcer doing the part of the job the assistant building inspector does not want to do.

If this is why this job was created why didn't things just be left alone and the Mayor, eight aldermen and the Peru Police Dept do the code enforcing?

Manpower for the building inspectors department is back up to three personnel again. Why? Because someone cannot hold up their end and rather than face up to that fact capable help was summoned. Government and private industry are complete different entities and by now you would think that government would waken to the fact that one has to carry his own weight or be replaced.

The code enforcer is one appointment in city hall who can be considered overqualified and will be a huge asset to the city if allowed to do HIS job.

I am glad they are cleaning up the signage. I don't care who does it, just get it done.

I was told by my alderman that the code officer is a seasonal position and will be evaluated next year before they decide to rehire or not. He was VERY rude and unprofessional when he approached me last weekend! I can't believe we actually PAY someone to do this job!! Was this postition posted for anyone to apply for? Or was it just given to the guy? I was told it was Boro, but not sure!! I didnt recognize him when he approached me to tell me he pitched my brand new signs that I PAID for!!! My retired dad can do that job for half the pay, I am sure!!!

kari: Did you tell your alderman how rudely the code officer treated you? If so, did he or she say they would do something to correct this problem? I, for one, am tired of citizens asking questions or seeking answers and getting treated rudely by those we are supposed to give us the answers.

correction above: by those who are supposed to give us the answers.

All the people who complained about the old boy network under Baker are watching the development of the new old boy network under Harl. The city pays a retired policeman money to enforce an anti-garage sale ordinance (Do not fool yourselves, it is really about getting the garage sale signs down), but can't even paint the turn lanes in the Hy-Vee rd area, or on Shoothing Park Rd. How screwed up is that?
