To All Garage Sale People - Weekends Are OK
Just last week while driving through the downtown area of Peru, I noticed a sign for a garage sale that was taped to a light post on 4th and while I usually don't pay any attention to garage sale signs because how else are people going to get the attention of those wanting to shop the sales, I thought this one was inappropriate and I know the area we consider "down town" Peru is raunchy looking at best, this just added to the mess.
Trying to clarify the signage issue last night, I asked that particular question about that particular sign and was told by the Mayor that we have no one to enforce this ordinance on weekends. The code officer is done for the year and the police will not enforce the ordinance because the Mayor said they are too busy doing other things.
So after the big eruption of a few weeks ago, I guess if you are planning a sale yet this year before spring, put your signs anywhere anytime because there will be no enforcement. Weekends are a for sure and most likely anytime because I doubt that our bldg inspector was going about town removing them during the week.
I guess we could now call this the WEEKEND ARE OK ORDINANCE.

News Tribune - News - Local - Peru pool fundraising to kick up a notch after grant denied
Anonymous said... Good morning Lois, just read in the News Trib that the Peru Pool Committee is going to apply for a 501(3)c, Non Profit Corporation. Please make this a heading, so the citizens can comment on this move. I for one, would like to see the money that has been raised put towards a splash pads in one of the parks for the kids by the start of next summer. No need to start a corporation to do that.

This is the type of urban renewal that is going on in Spring Valley, La Salle and Princeton, will it affect business in Peru since we are a city of only Big Box Stores. Are we missing out because most of our Mom and Pop stores are gone?

Also Gary Grabowski was appointed to the Planning Commission with the approval of the full council. This is a vacancy created by the resignation of Howard Flahaut who spent many years on this commission and a letter was read from the family with the announcement.
I understood previously that all openings to any committee or commission would be announced publicly and that letters of interest would then be accepted and the Mayor would then make his choice. I did ask the Mayor tonight where he made the public announcement and he only answered by saying he had a list and he chose from that list. How that list was accumulated and maintained was not explained to my satisfaction or to the satisfaction of several others in attendance.

Are We Now Allowing Cars to Park on the Grass of Baker Lake?
- Anonymous said...

This weekend a function was held at Baker Lake. Once again cars were allowed to pull into the Park and park on the grass. I don't recall this permission being neither asked for nor granted at a council meeting. Today, a path or roadway appears to have developed where the cars exited the Park. There were 2 rows of cars parked all the way to the nursing home. Could an ordinary citizen park their car on the grass while visiting the Park? This situation seems to be happening more and more in all our parks. This was never allowed before.
